Basically i got caught out without enough nappies today.
Teething etc lot's of soiled nappys.
I ask at the till if they can provide a nappy and am told no!
I didn't have the £8.99 for a 24 pack but was a bit surprised tbh.

theyoungvisiter · 28/03/2009 22:01

alhough there's something a bit weird about seeing two fanciable men enjoying bottom sex isn't there?

I don't get why men find lesbianism such a turn on. I'd just feel like a bit of a spare part if I happened to stumble on their campsite.

Floatylight · 28/03/2009 22:01

Mothercare make £££'s off MUMS, they are not any old business

They should definitely have some facility to at least let a parent purchase a single nappy if they can't stretch to a freebee.

Parents do sometimes get caught out. Hillwalkers will sometimes get caught out, expat. That's life. Who wants to get caught out on purpose and take their DCs home in paper towels?

EnterStageLeft · 28/03/2009 22:02

Oh ok, you asked a business to give you it's products/services for free. AUBU? OK, no you're not, you can ask for what you like.

But why be "surprised" they won't give you for free what they've got up for sale on their shelves with well-marked prices? Why should they? Do you usually get products/services for free? I don't. And that's why I suggested perhaps you were one of those think the world owes them - "surprised" to not be given it for free.

Personally I'm quite surprised you sat her on a couple of paper towels to take her home. IMO an already dirty nappy is a better option for half an hour (or however long it would take you to get her home) than paper towels but maybe IABU there, I have 3 DC and nappies are changed ASAP but if a similar situation happened to me they child would be changed at home when we got there.

Also, FWIW through 3 DC I have never run out of nappies. I consider my changing bag fully stocked when there's 6+ nappies in there. YOu never know how many you need or when another less organised mum will ask you to help them out

[shrieks like a girl at the sight of Thunderduck in woad and runs for the hills]

expatinscotland · 28/03/2009 22:06

It's not going to kill a baby to sit on some paper towels for a wee while.

ScottishMummy · 28/03/2009 22:08

nae wean ever died from a jobbie nappy or sat upon paper towel

violethill · 28/03/2009 22:09

So if I get a really desperate chocolate craving is it ok to ask in thorntons for a free handout because I can't afford the full box? Or pop into the pub for a free swig of gin?

theyoungvisiter · 28/03/2009 22:10

oh lord this thread is turning into a scary cross between Irvine Welsh and Rachel Cusk.

expatinscotland · 28/03/2009 22:11

BitOfFun · 28/03/2009 22:12

PMSL at the last post!

Enterstage, don't you accept the commercial argument then?

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 28/03/2009 22:12

I would like to know what on earth you had fed your DC to warrant 3 nappy changes in a short shopping trip!

EnterStageLeft · 28/03/2009 22:13

"The commercial arguement"?

BitOfFun · 28/03/2009 22:13

< passes expat a large G&T >

Lilyloo · 28/03/2009 22:13

Enter i will obviously be going out better stocked in future.
I did rather she sat on paper towels as she suffers from very bad eczema so that with loose stools doesn't help tbh!

Violet not at all, but not surte a chocolate craving is akin to a baby with a soiled nappy tbh!
However i am not a great lover of chocolate so maybe i am wrong!

That's just reminded me of a few weeks ago when I was in Yo Sushi and this rather disheveled woman sauntered in and started picking bits of sushi off the belt and shoving them into her mouth, just one off each plate that went past. She was obviously a regular as the staff all knew her and led her off very kindly (she was singing hymns to herself) but she was about 6 or 8 pieces ahead of the game before they managed to get rid of her .
