Cant help it
The thought that there are intelligent, funny, non-sleazy men out there who have masses in common with me....

It just gives me hope

And he's a regular poster on MN too.

OP posts:
harleyd · 31/03/2009 16:35

at the risk of offending everyone on the thread again ...i can see where punky is coming from
i do not know any bloke that would dream of posting on mn
in fact they would probably rather stick forks in their eyes than take anything to do with any parenting website
all the blokes i know use the internet for 2 things...porn and footie...maybe all the blokes i know are the macho man make fire, man eat meat types
i admit i did find it a bit odd when i discovered there were blokes on here, i never realised until this thread just how many there were..and some of the ones mentioned on here i actually thought were women (not you bgd, tho i know you like nothing more than a coctail and a good old dance round a handbag )
doesnt bother me that there are men on here
bothers me that posters are jumped on for having a different opinion tho

georgimama · 31/03/2009 16:36

You mean nice men, Trillian?

A quick glance through the relationships threads would certainly imply there aren't enough of them.

RustyBunny · 31/03/2009 16:37

Well, I was using daftpunk's definition....

I wouldn't walk all over DH, but then I've never needed to...

BigGitDad · 31/03/2009 16:37

Bet you get loads of those up north UQD!

UnquietDad · 31/03/2009 16:38

Heaps of slags in the north. Just like those. Big, ugly ones.

Threadworm · 31/03/2009 16:39

Those must be ABetaDad's pyramids, aka slags' heaps.

TrillianEAstraEgg · 31/03/2009 16:40

Yes georgimama, exactly.

When DP gets home I'll try to get a proper quote off him, but after reading this thread he said something to the effect that he was happy to have daftpunk think he was a wimp if it meant that he didn't have to be a smelly hairy caveman of the 'I'm only interested in beer and football and porn' type.

(he does like beer, and probably porn but also is interested in lost of other things)

Gunnerbean · 31/03/2009 16:40

DatfPunk, surely if your DH asks you what you think on any given topic what he gets is your perspective or opinion. Maybe he mightn't always want your perpective or your opinion on any given topic and that's why or when he might ask someone else (who could equally be a man or a woman).

Would that not be allowed round your house then?

ItsMargotBeauregarde · 31/03/2009 16:41

harleyd, I think it's because they don't get as far as looking.

It shows an open mind to come here and spend the 5 minutes it takes to discover how funny and clever the majority of posters are.

georgimama · 31/03/2009 16:42

Jumped on for having a different opinion? No, harley.

Jumped on for calling other posters "sad" "weird" and "losers"? Yes. And completely deserved too.

Mumcentreplus · 31/03/2009 16:42
Hmm
georgimama · 31/03/2009 16:45

Well, that just makes your POV crystal clear mumcentreplus. Care to elaborate? to what or who?

Pan · 31/03/2009 16:51

What on earth is this thread all about?? Hmm??
I turn my back for 5 minutes ( well, two weeks actually) and it all goes lawless.

FWIW I haven't read the entire thread ( there should be an anacronym for that), but from what I pick up, someone has a crush/spot of admiration for UQD - prefectly understandable, daftpunk considers men on MN to be "losers">, Rhubs maintains an excellent equilibrium and sticks up for blokes on MN, along with a few others, and we're all happy......

I like MN and the community a lot. I love women's company, both in rl and here. I have more female friends than male ones prob., and many of these both 'lots' have endured for a genaration.
I haven't noticed a fall in my testosterone levels since posting on MN, but I'll keep a check on it.

Pan · 31/03/2009 16:54

but my spell is deteriorating rapidly.

Threadworm · 31/03/2009 17:02

That wasn't quite a perfect summing up, Pan. Your parallel processing caused you to skip over the very nice and reasonable posts expressing caution about the presence of more than a very light sprinkling of male MNers.

TrillianEAstraEgg · 31/03/2009 17:03

"very nice and reasonable posts"

Ahem, in your entirely objective opinion

Threadworm · 31/03/2009 17:04

In my nice and reasonable opinion.

BitOfFunnyBunny · 31/03/2009 17:04

Stercus was asking if I was a man recently, because I was "no nonsense"...of course, closer inspection of my posts would reveal that I am in fact all about the nonsense, but I just don't type that fast so would see a thread whizz by if I were more erudite. I am most disappointed that no-one has ever twirled their hair of giggled girlishly at me- clearly I would be the kind of man nobody fancies

Pan · 31/03/2009 17:05

Sorry Thready, no time to read all but I stand happily corrected by your goodself.

Threadworm · 31/03/2009 17:09

I've just been making the old-guard feminist case for the presence of spaces where women can be the norm, in a world where they are often marginalised in public spaces. That's entirely compatible with a few men around, but I'd hate for men to be more than a tiny minority here.

Rhubarb · 31/03/2009 17:15

HarleyD I can see why you would want to stick up for daftpunk and if you read the thread, you'll find that I have done just that too.

In fact myself and Paddad I think it was, not to mention others, have gone out of our way to be nice to her and try to understand her pov. However she's not had the courtesy to return that consideration.

She's insulted the men on here by calling them 'losers' and 'wimps' amongst other things, but when challenged said that she meant it against her dh.

I don't like any poster being singled out for their opinions, but I do believe that daftpunk merely wants to be controversial and she puts in her insulting comments when the thread is going along nicely and posters are all being friendly.

However I've stated that I've no intention of holding her, incorrect, views against her on any other thread and I'm sure a lot of posters would say the same.

Pan · 31/03/2009 17:20

"I'd hate for men to be more than a tiny minority here. "

well I think that possibly after the efforts of one or two posters round here there's little liklihood of that ever happening, eh?

Pan · 31/03/2009 17:20

DrowningInClutter · 31/03/2009 17:35

Oh dear, this looked like such a lighthearted, fun thread from the title.

I've skimmed rather than read the thread (maybe we need an acronym for that too) but just wanted to add that I think the men add to, rather than taking anything away from mumsnet. I've also seen women who aren't mothers posting and can't see a problem with that either.

It's about 300 posts back and has probably been responded to already but it made me laugh that someone said men on here tend to state their opinions as if they were facts. Have you really never noticed any female posters doing that? Really?

Pan · 31/03/2009 17:37

yes drowning - I noticed that too in my read-by browsing.....seemed to say that some blokes spout opinion without listening to other's POV. Get outta here!
