have just had a fucking parking ticket.

I went to aldi last monday, had to go to the bank in the town for money to use at aldi, then went shopping.

the car park is free for 1.30hrs.

I parked there for 1.40hrs

they have fined me £70 for parking 10mins over time.

and I went into the store.

fucking wanking bastards

Nabster · 23/03/2009 16:59

but I guess they don't know it was only 10 minutes and they probably have had loads of people parking all day who don't shop there.

Lulumama · 23/03/2009 16:59

i don;t wish to enrage you further, but you overstayed the free parking, and i am pretty sure there will be big signs up saying what the penalties are

can it be enforced if it is private rather than council owned land though?

sorry, £70 is a lot of money for ten minutes

Mummyfor3 · 23/03/2009 17:00

Psycho, for you!!

Surely this warrants speaking to Aldi manager! This may of course have been private cowboys company who simple provide "security" for the Aldi car park.

I would certainly make a fuss - you may even wish to take your custom elsewhere

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 23/03/2009 17:00

Can you appeal and use your parking ticket as proof that you were actually shopping there?

psychomum5 · 23/03/2009 17:02

no, they timed me.

nd yes, the signs are there!!

but what wanking supermarket (and this is not the smallest aldi about) think you can shop there in 1.30mins when there is often only one damn checkout open, and I like to browse.

lulu, am ignoring all YABU's BTW, am enrage and on a mission to spout venom

I will pay the fine, I do know I outstayed my welcome, but I am still CROSS!!!

OP posts:
Anglepoise · 23/03/2009 17:02

Don't pay, it's not enforceable. Google private parking fines/have a look at consumer forums. Would type more but NAK sorry!

MorrisZapp · 23/03/2009 17:02

Totally sympathise but isn't it the principle rather then the amount of time, ie you were effectively illegally parked, so it doesn't matter how long it was?

£70 sounds steep, so I do feel your pain.

psychomum5 · 23/03/2009 17:03

oh, and when I say they times me....

the letter states the times I went into, and out of, the store.

they filmed me!!

OP posts:
Ripeberry · 23/03/2009 17:03

In our town they charge you £40 if you don't park in the marked bays with NO wheels touching the white lines!

wrongsideof40 · 23/03/2009 17:03

Seems a lot - do you still have your receipt ? If you write and explain and copy in your receipt they should let you off - you would have had to have spent a reasonable amount though to back up your 'had to go to the bank in town to get money to shop at aldi ' story.

solowitch · 23/03/2009 17:04

My Aldi local car park only give 1 hour!

psychomum5 · 23/03/2009 17:04

fanjo, the parking ticket states (it was sent to DH BTW, whcih is why I was not venting earlier when the post actually arrived) that if I appeal they will charge more.

can they really do this???

OP posts:
DaisyMooSteiner · 23/03/2009 17:04

Well it isn't great customer service is it?!

I think I read last year that the government will be outlawing firms like this - not much comfort to you now though

Fimbo · 23/03/2009 17:05

You should have gone to Lidl, they let you have 3hrs >

psychomum5 · 23/03/2009 17:05

solo....1hr.....

OP posts:
Lulumama · 23/03/2009 17:05

if you appeal they charge more !! farking hell... that is wholly unreasonable and i don;t think would be legally enforceable.

i think there is a forum for this sort of thing on money saving expert?

you can unignore me now, psycho!

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 23/03/2009 17:06

They can prob charge more if you lose the appeal

I do think it is to stop people using it as a free in-town car park though, so you should be let off if actually shopping there!!!

wrongsideof40 · 23/03/2009 17:07

Shocked they timed you in and out store ! - Agree 1 1/2 hours isn't that long - write to manager but I wouldn't pay

psychomum5 · 23/03/2009 17:07

fimbo, I will indeed do lidl

OP posts:
solowitch · 23/03/2009 17:07

Out of interest, how much did you spend in Aldi?

They could argue that you can use your debit card in their store, so no need to get cash out I'm on your side though.

Anglepoise · 23/03/2009 17:08

No no no, not enforceable. Don't pay it! Pls read my other post!

Anglepoise · 23/03/2009 17:10

Have a poke around here

solowitch · 23/03/2009 17:11

Yes, I know psycho, but it certainly makes you shop quicker! interesting to know that you don't get a ticket stuck to the windscreen, but a letter through the post. I always feel relieved not to see a ticket attached to the windscreen, thinking I'm safe ~ obviously not then.
There are only 9 spaces in our Aldi carpark. Funnily enough, the next nearest one doesn't(I don't think)have CCTV and no signs up . It is about 9 miles away though...

taipo · 23/03/2009 17:12

Oh, I sympathise. 70 pounds is far too much for 10 minutes. My parents once got a ticket for parking outside our house in London for 10 minutes. And yes, I know they should have had a permit etc, etc. but it was only 10 minutes to pick up dc to do us a huge favour and they were charged 50 pounds for the privilege. If we'd appealed and lost it would have gone up to 100 so we just paid up. Made me fume though.

Anglepoise · 23/03/2009 17:12

Also maybe here though I've not looked at that site before so not sure how good it is (I used CAG template letters etc) to fight a £70 in a Sainsbury's car park last year )
