Moondog - that's the reporter that said those things - just pointing out what I should imagine were some pretty obvious things to the naked eye

The same article says that

"Louise is not inclined to blame the government for her difficulties. She is grateful for the money she gets every week and doesn't think her life would be much enhanced by increased payments."

Ha ha, its the name of the gay club next to the Playhouse at the top of Leith walk.

FAQinglovely · 24/03/2009 23:00

ahhhh I see - I was too p*ssed by that point to notice the name, just remember it was one of the free (well it was back then) places to get into at that time of night that was going to be open until 4am LOL

On the talk of benefits now... Going bk to original post. I applied for a crisis loan 3 weeks ago. Ive been waiting for this 'Crisis' money for 3 whole weeks and guess what - THEY'VE LOST THE PAPERWORK! Again!!!! Im going to be homeless on Friday...Unless some kind person will lend me £300 by then
As I sure know that the social security benefits wont 'find' it within 3 days!

mizzidee · 24/03/2009 23:08

DSM · 24/03/2009 23:08

Mizzidee - please do not accuse me of lying about something, and then when I have the courtesy to prove that I am telling the truth, not even take a minute of your time to see that I was, and admit you were wrong.

Chellesgirl · 24/03/2009 23:10

Chellesgirl · 24/03/2009 23:16

Ive done the phone thing already...You cant get Rent in advance over the phone. You have to do it by sending off an application form. Which Ive actually done twice already.

thanks FAQ, Did you know that the government dont class you as 'homeless' unless you have an addiction, and dont bother to go to a shelter, because your so high/low. It was on 'This morning'

Did you see that lady who was on £27,000 per annum and lost her job, lost her house (renting with other professionals) and ended up going to a shelter every day for food?

What happened to her expensive car is what I wanna know???

Chellesgirl · 24/03/2009 23:18

your telling me a single mum (not living with her kids) on £27,000 a year couldnt afford to save any of that money? She should have, cause i recon it would come in quite handy for her now.

FAQinglovely · 24/03/2009 23:18

thankfully my local council wold have classed me as homeless if I'd sat around in the marital home waiting for the court to authorise the repossession (all in DH's name, but I was the one living there).

Her car may have been a company one - DH was driving a nice little car until he was fired - now he's not got on. Or she may have sold it to try and sort herself out.

OP posts:
GypsyMoth · 24/03/2009 23:19

Chellesgirl.........I'm certainly not addicted toanything but was homeless. Got re- housed quickly too and was put straight at the top of the list. So what will you do? You must be worried stupid

FAQinglovely · 24/03/2009 23:20

well saving wouldn't have done her much good - she wouldn't have got any benefits until she'd used the vast majority of it up.

OP posts:
DSM · 24/03/2009 23:21

I had a friend who was classed homeless, and he had no addiction. He was put into emergency housing.

Oh, and he had previously been earning £26,000 a year, and had a nice car. He sold it, and used the money to pay off the car. He didn't even get enough, and was declared bankrupt.

Circumstances change.

DSM · 24/03/2009 23:23

And no, maybe she couldn't afford to save.

Maybe she had debts that she was paying off?
Maybe her rent was too high to afford to save?
Maybe her car payments were high?
Maybe she invested and lost some?
Maybe she was giving it to charity?

Not your place to suggest she could afford to save, sorry.

Chellesgirl · 24/03/2009 23:27

Well yes I hear you on that one. But £27,000 a year and no savings what so ever. She started getting IS 7 weeks after losing her frst job, she went on to contract work and then became homeless. The only reason she got her benefits was because she stopped doing the contract work.

Her car could have been company - slipped my mind.
