to request a story on the 'Moldies'

A while ago, on another forum, a link was posted to the newspaper article about a fight here - to do with the Moldies.

Being relatively new here... can someone explain what it was all about?

I have no real reasoning for this, aside from a compulsion to be completely nosy

Some people sat on the PC too long, MNing and went mouldy. Others came in and slated them for being dirty addicts. It was a real brawl and some of us who had rooted by the PC needed professional help.

YABU only because it has been done to death and makes me go .

However, as i am a welcoming sort.....

Some mumsnetters set up a separate forum a while ago because there was a bit of a hooha and they wanted somewhere to talk with privacy.

That site was then inactive for a while when said hooha died down.
Then some people decided they wanted to resurrect the site, it was nicknamed moldies as in mumsnet oldies.
There were a few covert references to the site and then finally some people twigged there was another site, then someone admitted it and there was a huge bunfight.

Some mnetters who'd been here a while set up a separate website which was invitation only.

That's about it. Except it was endlessly post mortemmed.

oooh Im glad I stumbled across this thread - I've finally discovered what a "moldie" is!
The other day I was asked on a thead if I was one and I didn't know whether to take it as an insult or a compliment. Even after reading this thread, I still don't really know which it is!

Is the woman who went by the screenname "Cod" a "moldie"? She always seemed to be right in the thick of things and in with everyone yet I never see her about anymore.

It must be very quiet over on Moldies at the moment - all sorts of posters who'd gone quiet have come back in dribs and drabs to dreary old Mumsnet in the past couple of weeks.

I think the only thing you really need to know about moldiegate was that it took up an amazing amount of thread space - thousands and thousands of posts - then just as it looked to go quiet somebody new to it would ask what it was all about and the whole thing would start up again...........thank goodness that isn't likely to happen again

QM - I know what you mean. My children and dh left home, went on holiday for a week and loaned the house to some visting mormons and I didn't notice....

Ok - so they didn't - but they easily could have done.......
