A while ago, on another forum, a link was posted to the newspaper article about a fight here - to do with the Moldies.

Being relatively new here... can someone explain what it was all about?

I have no real reasoning for this, aside from a compulsion to be completely nosy

I'm back, you didn't scare me off - I'm ade of sterner stuff!

I really don't get all this moldie stuff, and the reference to "you'd fit right in" - what's that all about? One day, when there is only me and my PC left on earth I might just nose back through the archived threads to find out more....

No one answered my question about where Cod has got to these days - she was rather amusing.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 22/03/2009 00:33

4

Gunnerbean · 22/03/2009 00:51

What do you mean "4"?

That's a bit too cryptic for me at this hour!

Still no word of Cod either...

BitOfFun · 22/03/2009 01:02

I saw Cod today, gunner, under a different name- she only left because some mutters were stalking her in RL. Her posting style is so illegible distinctive you can spot her no matter what name she switches to! Moldies was set up originally as another board we could use in emergencies (like libel) if we were shut down, but it came into use when cod had to leave but wanted to keep in touch with friends. Unfortunately some people on it got a bit over-zealous and blackballed or vetoed some eople joining and it all got a bit cliquey. When vetoed but established MNers found out it existed they were understandably upset. That's what I gathered anyway, while I was ignoring my family over Xmas when it kicked off!

The "fit right in" comment was just a reference to the huffiness that ensued when the shit hit the fan...

Hope that helps!

4 means I don't care
I think

Jaquelinehyde · 22/03/2009 01:21

4 - wow that's a reply I haven't heard in ages!

Gunnerbean · 22/03/2009 01:28

Thanks for that BitofFun. I did a bit of Googling and came across a helpful synopisis that another members had posted, which confirmed what you said.

Sorry to hear that Cod was stalked - that must have been scary. I always liked her style of posting and her acerbic wit is missed around here.

I have been a member of another internet forum for several years (not parenting related) and a similar thing to the Moldies thing happened there too - it led to splinter groups forming and they all seem to intermittently bitch and snipe between each other now, sadly. I guess that type of thing is inevitable when people find their own cliques and alliances in amongst a large group. Maybe it's just all down to human nature as people thed to gravitate towards those they feel most comfortable with and have most in common.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time out to update me. At least now I know what a Moldie is and where Cod went!

One question remains though...do you think it was meant as an insult or a compliment when I was asked if I was a Moldie?

It should be noted that the questionw as followed up with a which may, or may not be significant here...

in fact we still have a private board on ours.

BitOfFun · 22/03/2009 02:51

Probably just a curiosity thing, and wondering if you were familiar- take it as a compliment!

QuantitativeMeasure · 22/03/2009 06:37

I have noticed Cod lots on here since she 'left'.

Although her spelling has improved, you can spot her a mile off from the content of her speech.

seeker · 22/03/2009 06:47

Do Not Feed the Moldies!

ScottishMummy · 22/03/2009 10:06

mouldies was a spat over cliques and who was in etc.some ole gimmers bellyaching MN has changed and too much Huns not enough deep discourse.not like the ole days yadda yadda

the other gimmers had an invite only discussion group.

said "nah not tonight love" to the majority. then presumably ensconced elsewhere opining about the decline of MN

MollieO · 22/03/2009 10:26

I read a very sad profile (can't remember whose) of someone who was very upset to be an oldie but not invited to be a moldie. I think the whole oldie/moldie/newbee rubbish was very divisive and upsetting to some.

Mintyy · 22/03/2009 15:12

I've seen a poster who I thought was maybe Cod or Enid (they were similar). And loads of others who went quiet January/February and are now coming back. Usually in pairs or threes lol.
