Maybe I'm being a grump but I find it a bit confrontational. I'm confused as to what they mean too. They posted it through my door today, I haven't even seen them yet (they have moved in four doors up).

Hiya Neighbour

On 24th of March our building work will be over and we will be good to go. If you could drop round with housewarmers between 3pm and 7pm we would be happy to offer a glass of wine.

Kind Regards
X and X

thanks for the update tdwp.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 24/03/2009 18:18

What an anti climax hey? Just nice normal people.

OP posts:
Flier · 24/03/2009 18:20

maybe you'll be able to laugh about their terminology with them at some point in the future would still be nice to know what they really meant though

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 24/03/2009 18:22

Well I took a load of freshly baked cookies and ginger bread (not made by me of course) and they said 'you shouldn't have'.

OP posts:
Flier · 24/03/2009 18:31

ah so they wanted you to bring friends

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 24/03/2009 18:34

I hope 'ah so' isn't a joke about their ethnicity

JazzHands · 24/03/2009 18:36

ROFL grumpy

Podrick · 24/03/2009 18:41

Send them a postcard back asking what they mean by "housewarmers" - is this an invitation to bring more people/ instruction to bring a gift/ instruction to bring food/something else entirely?

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 24/03/2009 18:49

Podrick if a post has 200+ posts it's probably wise to read the last few comments before posting.

Not to be rude (but know I am)

edam · 24/03/2009 18:51

So you weren't the only uptight English person put off by the wording of their card? Shame.

edam · 24/03/2009 18:51

(I mean, shame they didn't get more people turning up.)

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 24/03/2009 18:52

I'm not uptight. I think it was probably the timings, most people are at work.

They have said they plan bbq's in the summer. I'll be going if invited.

OP posts:
edam · 24/03/2009 18:54

No, I didn't mean you are particularly uptight for a British person, but as a nation we are uptight compared to very friendly countries like New Zealand. So the response of a bunch of English people to the wording of the invite would be more negative.

Hulababy · 24/03/2009 19:00

Timing does sound pretty bad TBH - a mid week afternoon. Not many people would be able to make that during the day; maybe after 6 it was busier. They;d have been better doing at the weeked or perhpas between 5:30 and 8:30pm

Podrick · 24/03/2009 19:19

TheDevilWearsPrimark it's your own fault for resurrecting this one anyhow you still don't know what housewarmers are so I expect that's why you are getting snippy with me

After all if a thread has 200+ posts on a fairly inconsequential subject who has time to read them?

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 24/03/2009 19:48

I think they may be from another country too, e.g. american and they mean bring yourselves over to celebrate them finishing their house. Sounds like they want to invite you round to say sorry for any inconvenience during the building work? You could always pop round and ask what it means?

Go they may be interesting / fun / bonkers.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 24/03/2009 19:51

Podrick I didn't resurrect it, but thanks to the poster that did as I'd forgotten all about it.

OP posts:
tatt · 24/03/2009 20:09

wish I'd seen it before, I'd have cheered Blu.

Poor people - they wanted to invite a few people to a housewarming party and meet their neighbours. But perhaps their English is not as good as they thought. I'm sure it's much better than my (non-existent) Japanese.

Hope you dropped them a nice thank you note afterwards TDWP.

mrsmaidamess · 24/03/2009 20:18

Havent read thread. Could they be Australian?

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 24/03/2009 20:45

Dropped them a thankyou note? Within hours of visiting laden with baked goodies and a welcome/ housey card.

That may seem a little keen, they may well have posted about me if I had.

Or Kiwi?

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 24/03/2009 20:48

Yes, expect they're Kiwi, they use sayings like "good to go".

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 24/03/2009 20:50

Stop bumping this damn thread.

Die thread, die.

(but rofl)
