If something vaguely irritating or annoying happens I think and/or comment to dh if around "that would make a good aibu thread". If something funny or anecdotal happens I think I must post that on chat. If my kids have behavioural issues I post on that! I used to restrict my mn fix to the evenings only when the kids are in bed. Now I find getting the laptop down when ds2 is having a nap when I should be doing other things especially if ds1 is at preschool. I tell dh (if around he works shifts and often around on weekdays) I'm just got to check my emails won't be a minute. Dh thinks this is so sad and I should get a life! So aibu? Am I alone is there a cure and should I seet help?

It is so unbelievably addictive. I thought I could handle it at first but it is all starting to spiral out of control.

Nontoxic · 03/03/2009 19:28

If you do find a cure will you let me know?

JustCallMeGoat · 03/03/2009 19:28

i think if you are saying to your dh that would make a good aibu thread you need counseling.

onlinemummy · 03/03/2009 20:44

You are so not alone. I haven't been on here very long but have become addicted. I too, use nap time to have a quick look and I find myself surprised when my DS wakes up and I realise an hour and a half has passed. Perhaps it gets less addictive the longer you have been here? You are going to say you have been on MN 5 years now and disprove my hopeful theory.

southeastastra · 03/03/2009 20:47

it's more entertaining/informative than tv or magazines imo .

cutekids · 03/03/2009 20:48

Well..it's either here or FACEBOOK

M1SSUNDERSTOOD · 03/03/2009 21:05

I am also affected as even my DS1 (5) says I am always on the puter.

MrsPurple · 03/03/2009 21:07

totally agree on addiction, maybe this should be a topic in general health?

I have noticed I'm going to bed later as like to follow thread etc.

Your right are here or facebook.

I include DH in what some posts are, if they're funny or need a male perspective.

Off to buy new PC on Friday as this one is to slow (actually grinding to halt), atleast I won't miss the threads etc on MN then.

screamingabdab · 03/03/2009 21:07

Me too. I have also found i can't get to sleep if I'm on it too late.

screamingabdab · 03/03/2009 21:09

DH thinks I am addicted, and I have started to hide it from him...

However, whenever I turn my back he's looking at VW Camper Van Websites

You could always try twitter - you only get 140 characters and there's not AIBU threads to lure you in. Otherwise you are doomed.

DrTrillianAstra · 03/03/2009 21:17

That all sounds like a lovely day Reality

mylifemykids · 03/03/2009 21:20

I can't wait til my kids go to school Reality

BitOfFun · 03/03/2009 21:25

I am concerned that when I meet MNers I will say things like "Snort" instead of laughing...

MmeLindt · 03/03/2009 21:27

I almost said LOL the other day.

Just caught myself in time.

BitOfFun · 03/03/2009 21:30

It would be so embarrassing, wouldn't it? Then you'd have to say "Gets coat"

LiffeyBag · 03/03/2009 21:30

Bitoffun, I know what you mean, I refered to my children as the dc recently. I had to quickly faux stumble over my words and say eh, children, I mean.

But MN is far less damaging than facebook. That really brings out my insecurities.

MN is such a love bomb in comparison!

piscesmoon · 03/03/2009 21:31

It is addictive. DH is away at the moment-I think the only way is to just stop and I think I will just quietly disappear-no one will notice anyway.
I just like the opportunity to have 'the world according to piscesmoon'! In RL I keep my opinions to myself or if someone asks me I am diplomatic-on here some one can say 'what do you think of the name Ernest and I can say 'dire', in RL I would say something bland like'an unusual choice'.

noonki · 03/03/2009 21:43

I no longer go on mn if the kids are awake/in the house as I basically only half a mum if I'm mning

it is soooo addictive.

screamingabdab · 03/03/2009 22:00

Good point noonki. That's what worries me the most. Ironic that being addicted to MN could result in becoming a poor mother

qumps · 03/03/2009 22:00

currently sleep training ds2 and with dh away finding mn the only thing that gets me through.
turn on - pat shush
log in - pat shush
check thread - pat shush
you get the idea.
only thing is i find myself still here when he is asleep......

DrTrillianAstra · 03/03/2009 22:08

( I don't know what a snurk is but I like it)
