I feellike calling and ranting at her. It's bloody horrible.

Should I just ignore it? What do/ would you do?

People are often aggressive when they are ashamed of themselves.

BitOfFun · 28/02/2009 17:58

Drop them then, tossers! I would never send you offensive jokes, only crap ones

5inthebed · 28/02/2009 18:00

How bloody rude are some people!

I hate "joke" texts as they are usually either racist/sexist/about someone who has just died/about a paedophile.

Fairynufff · 28/02/2009 18:00

Actually in terms of humour I would've pissed myself at the one from her DP... I aspire to being called a "posh bitch"...

stoppinattwo · 28/02/2009 18:00

oh DWP...you are better off out of that...they sound really rude and horrible tbh, am sorry you are the brunt of it and hope that you wont miss thier friendship....sorry they are being obnoxious

LauriefairycakeeatsCupid · 28/02/2009 18:01

her dp has used that as an excuse to insult you

what a twat

you are so better off without this charming pair

nooka · 28/02/2009 18:01

Nasty. Ah well at least you know to cut the friendship now rather than get caught in a situation when you are involved in their unpleasant and racist behaviour. For me the wort thing about these sorts of situations is that someone else thinks that you would find it funny, not offensive.

Fairynufff · 28/02/2009 18:04

Can you not put the wind up them and text them saying something like "this text is an offense under the Race Relations Act chapter 3 subsection 4.1 and I have duly passed it on to the police for their consideration."

(I made up the subsections so don't bother correcting me...)

Now that would be funny.

pooka · 28/02/2009 18:04

Yep - sounds like a lovely couple to be friends with. No loss.

troutpout · 28/02/2009 18:04

Result!
got called a 'posh bitch' and got rid of a couple of thick twunts ...all in one day!

Flightattendant27 · 28/02/2009 18:07

Oh yes pleeeease dop what fairynuff says!!!!

Sorry you got someone's anger directed at you. Fwiw I agree it showed them...they wouldn't respond like that if they hadn't realised it was a shit thing to do, so your taking a stand might stop them doing it again...you never know.

Flightattendant27 · 28/02/2009 18:07

do

insertwittynicknameHERE · 28/02/2009 18:08

what horrible people, you are better off without that kind of friendship in your life.

PenelopePitstops · 28/02/2009 18:10

at her dps response!

thanks for the explainations, its still not funny

you are well rid dwp

onagar · 28/02/2009 18:16

I'm glad someone explained it since I didn't get it either. It's a pretty poor joke.

Now if it had said "A muslim woman knocked on the door" etc it would have been using a joke as a medium for social commentary. Like a parable.

Flightattendant27 · 28/02/2009 18:19

Yes but still not funny - I mean, I had no idea anyone cared that much that some women wear veils etc/

Does it really make them feel so insecure? Like they must only be doing it to upset 'us'?

LynetteScavo · 28/02/2009 18:20

I reckon all the texts were from her DP.

Where on earth did you meet these people in the first place?

warthog · 28/02/2009 18:24

glad you stood up to her. good to let people know this sort of thing isn't ok.

Horton · 28/02/2009 18:25

They sound vile. I think you're well rid of them!

HecatesTwopenceworth · 28/02/2009 18:49

Have you had any further communication?

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 28/02/2009 18:54

SIL sent me a horribly racist one the other week. Totally out of the blue. I just ignored it, but have since found out that she votes BNP. I've begun to feel totally different to her now - it's so awkward. I'm just hoping that she doesn't send me any more. I'll have to say something next time......

wabbit · 28/02/2009 19:01

Completely ignore texts from either of them in future after their responses.

Shown their true colours methinks

solidgoldbullet4myvalentine · 28/02/2009 19:13

I had a rather ghastly one from my SOL (sister-out-law) a few months back. It wasn't explicitly racist, more a 'funny' Richard Littlejohn type thing called How To Get A Council House (ie be an immigrant). I just ignored it: to give her the benefit of the doubt she is one of these people who forwards on every single bit of crap that arives in her inbox ('jokes', 'inspirational thoughts', urban legends, the lot) and might not even have read it through before hitting Fwd.
Oh thanks for the 'explanation' of the joke btw - all I could think of was one I got told as a kid - about the gynaecologist who decorated his house through the letterbox.
But you are best off without this pair of prize dorks, DWP.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 28/02/2009 19:24

I've decided to not respond. I don't want any more vile crap sent back.

It's a friend from uni, we lived together for a year and so i am very shocked.

Flightattendant27 · 28/02/2009 19:45

That's sad DWP and sensible decision.

Fwiw I am betting it's him and she was influenced by him on this occasion. She probnever thought that way until he started having a go at her and telling her to lightne up iyswim
