We are on a tight budget at the moment and it is from Monsoon and in good condition.
I just feel like I am selling her short. I got new everything else.

she won't know or care

no point spending loads on a dress she will wear once

Itsjustafleshwound · 26/02/2009 20:47

It's new for her ...

Yurtgirl · 26/02/2009 20:47

She wont care in the slightest! If you dont tell anyone they will never guess

Lizzylou · 26/02/2009 20:47

Aw, stop worrying, bet she will look fab.
I get loads off Ebay tbh, just don't forget to relist it after you've finished with it

hester · 26/02/2009 20:47

Of course not! Why would she care? See it as your contribution to the environment. My daughter wears loads of second hand stuff - personally, I like the sense of her clothes having a history, that another child has played and laughed and been loved in them.

Dillydaydreamer · 26/02/2009 20:47

Thats my thought really as we have no weddings or anything else to go to this year and she is growing so fast- 10mths and needs 18-24mth clothes!

She will not know, even if she did, she wouldn't care at all. I had my DD Christened in a babygro she'd had for a while. Nobody batted an eyelid!

Divineintervention · 26/02/2009 20:49

I have just started eBaying my dd's old stuff...she had so much it's all great condition, most like new! I have also purchased wonderful stuff.
Don't tell her and she'll never know!

Dillydaydreamer · 26/02/2009 20:49

Thanks everyone feel reassured that I am being economical and not tight

But a christening dress/robe is supposed to have a history - much better if it's been handed down than some brand new thing. Of course you are not unreasonable or mean!

Lizzylou · 26/02/2009 20:51

Actually, just realised that DS2's shirt for his Christening, he was 2 when he was christened was off Ebay, it was also Monsoon and he looked like a dreamboat.
I hope you all enjoy your day

Shoshe · 26/02/2009 20:51

No and its a beautiful dress

Dillydaydreamer · 26/02/2009 20:51

I get most of both my dds clothes from ebay and sell stuff all in excellent condition, so I know I shouldn't think I'm doing her out of anything. I think its because with dd1 everything was brand new (hadn't discovered ebay at that point )

I got a gorgeous M&P outfit for my ds for his Christening, I saw it in my local M&P for £90... bought it for £25 inc postage from ebay!

You are SO not BU - your dd won't know or care how much you have spent on it.

Dillydaydreamer · 26/02/2009 20:53

I'm rumbled Shoshe! How long have I been outed?

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 26/02/2009 20:54

Monsoon baby dresses are extraordinarily expensive if you're only likely to wear them once. Buying a Christening dress on ebay is a very sensible economy - good for you and the environment!

Shoshe · 26/02/2009 20:55

about three minutes I wont spill.

Dillydaydreamer · 26/02/2009 20:57

Thanks for all your positive contributions I feel better about it now.

Belgianchocolates · 26/02/2009 20:58

YANBU. She'll never know, no one else will ever know. She'll only wear it once anyway. All that matter is: does she look absolutely gorgeous in in??

Shoshe · 26/02/2009 20:58

only cos i know who you are cos you showed it to me.

Dillydaydreamer · 26/02/2009 21:00

Tis a gorgeous dress and she will look beautiful in it Although I haven't dared try it on for fear of it getting puked on

OP posts:
Dillydaydreamer · 26/02/2009 21:01

On her btw I wouldn't puke on it!

unpaidworker · 26/02/2009 21:01

Well done, why pay for new?

funkybuddah · 26/02/2009 21:52

Nope YANBU, i got DD's from ebay for £1.20, it is beautiful and she looked beautiful in it. i couldnt se ethe point in paying tonnes for osmething worn only for a few hours

shonaspurtle · 26/02/2009 22:02
