step away from the envelope

Geepers · 26/02/2009 13:09

You know you shouldn't open it. Why are you so curious?

Goober · 26/02/2009 13:10

No.
You wouldn't like it.
Leave it.

missingtheaction · 26/02/2009 13:12

STAND BACK! NOW! [defensive emoticon]

If you open it you have the rest of your life to look forward to 'it was the first real letter i'd ever received, it was mine, it was addressed to me, but YOU had to OPEN it. YOu are SOOO unreasonable and controlling' etc.

Is she a teenager?

NeedCoffee · 26/02/2009 13:12

NeedCoffee · 26/02/2009 13:12

OP posts:
drlove8 · 26/02/2009 13:19

OP posts:
NeedCoffee · 26/02/2009 13:20

haha dd1 age 8 gets envelopes with haribos in them from her haribo club, i have to hide them from myself so i don't open them Aw your dd will probably be excited when she gets home, although i suppose that if the envelope was on a shelf, above the kettle, then the steam may reach it a little......

gagarin · 26/02/2009 13:20

as long as you don't mind her opening your letters if she fancies it then that's absolutely fine...

drlove8 · 26/02/2009 13:23

needmorecoffee..... i was just about to make some (ahem) coffee- would you like one?

OP posts:
drlove8 · 26/02/2009 13:24

Ceolas · 26/02/2009 13:25

No way.

Leave it well alone!

duchesse · 26/02/2009 13:27

Do.Not.Open.

It is beneath your dignity to open someone else's post. Just think how BIG and GROWN-UP you'll feel when you manage to resist the siren call all day, to respect your daughter's privacy!

Fimbo · 26/02/2009 13:29

NEED COFFEE - there is a Haribo club???? And you get sweets from them??????. Never mind the dc give the details to ME now!!!!!

DrLove - open the envelope and reseal it with glue

BoffinMum · 26/02/2009 13:32

I just used to ask my DD what it was on the grounds that I was feeling nosy and I could barely resist opening it and deserved a reward for holding off. But she would usually just give me a withering look.

I am quite disciplined about not reading diaries and post because I think kids can tell if you have, and they are more likely to come to tell you if there is a problem if they feel you are trustworthy and can keep your mouth shut if necessary. I am always perpetually surprised how much DD has told me about her private life.

2rebecca · 26/02/2009 13:32

No, definitely not. My kids have opened their own mail since they were able to do so. Opening mail is fun, why would you want to remove some enjoyment from your daughters life?
Find something to distract yourself with, don't steam it open or be nosy, have a bit of restraint.
Husband's ex wife used to open his mail, and his kids because she was nosy and a bit of a control freak. None of them liked it.
The kids started sending mail to our house for a while because they knew we left it for them.

BoffinMum · 26/02/2009 13:33

I would say I open and file bank statements for the younger kids though, btw, because that's a bit too much responsibility for them IMO.

drlove8 · 26/02/2009 13:36

duchesse, i have no dignity- its been worn away by all those trips to the maternity hospital ! - cant i not just claim senile dementia or something? DD often says im getting old and dottery!.NEEDCOFFEE- spill info on haribo?? might just distract me from looking for the pritstick

wotulookinat · 26/02/2009 13:54
