yay! Well done your DD! She'll be less angry with you because it's good news!

BoffinMum · 26/02/2009 14:02

Just bake her a congratulations cake quick before she comes home from school, and slip her a tenner for doing so well, and she MAY overlook your nosiness!!

duchesse · 26/02/2009 14:03

< SLAP! > bad bad bad

You'll just have to explain to her that you were beside yourself with excitement, and make her her favourite supper now. And grovel. Unless you're a dab hand with the glue.

armandaleg · 26/02/2009 14:14

My daughter's at uni and we only open her post if she rings to tell us she's expecting something and what it might look like. I'd never ever have done it when she lived here.

Kids love opening post. Your poor dd Pleased she's done well but get some self control! She'll remember this.

Divineintervention · 26/02/2009 14:18

Oh shit, not only her post but her 'very exciting first exam result' post.
Repair the envelope, make her or take her out for a lovely dinner and give her a crisp £10 note.

NotPlayingAnyMore · 26/02/2009 14:27

Glad she's done well, but it's a real shame you couldn't help yourself from denying her the pleasure of seeing your face when she showed you the result

It's illegal to open post for someone else and it's a shame you've shown your daughter that you're not to be trusted. I've never forgotten my mother reading my diary.

Madsometimes · 26/02/2009 14:37

Can you reseal the envelope? That's what I would do!

Madsometimes · 26/02/2009 14:39

OK my dd's are 8 and 5, so I would open their post unless it was obviously a birthday card or something I knew was coming. I would certainly open a brown envelope, usually it is library fines

flowerybeanbag · 26/02/2009 14:39

At that age I would have been absolutely furious and very upset both in terms of feeling my privacy had been invaded and in terms of not getting the chance to open a rare bit of post addressed to ME.

BoffinMum · 26/02/2009 14:44

I think OP should admit her falling from grace here and grovel a bit. Should work out OK then.

drlove8 · 26/02/2009 14:47

, . me very bad mummy! wont do it again!promise lol. will stick it down with glue and act surprised! defo will give dd extra pocket money and treat her to something very nice for doing so well.... and if she notices its been glued... i'll blame the postie, joke,( wont really),i'll just confess it was me whilst holding her favorite cake/icecream/twentyquid. sure i'll be forgiven.

Shame. You put your own nosiness ahead of your daughters right to privacy and the chance for her to tell you HER good news.
I'm really glad my parents had some self control v my exam results.
I remember my mum begging me to open my o level results when I was still in bed and scared to open it in case bad news. She would never have opened it herself though. Then my pleasure at the good results would have been tainted by my unhappiness at not being the first to see my results and knowing I couldn't trust my mother to respect my privacy.

drlove8 · 26/02/2009 14:50

is it really illegal? does that make me a crim? . DD knows i cant be trusted, thats why she wrote in her empty diary-" dont bother mum- im no stupid enough to actually write anything in this! "lol.

OP posts:
duchesse · 26/02/2009 14:51

funny girl! Keep looking-there's bound to be another diary somewhere else!

drlove8 · 26/02/2009 14:54

there is another diary---- at her dad's house( the exh) .lol she know im not going to get at it there

Oooh sorry had to go clean.
oh dear, nosiness got the better of you...think it probably will have done me too. So did you really steam it open, or just open ever so carefully? Well Done DD

Haribo club-here
less than £5 to join, can't remember exactly, you get a toy and sweets when you join, hat and sweets at christmas, halloween, birthday and a random one or 2 envelopes, usually has 2 small(as in 10p) bags sent-well, at least they can't pig out

piscesmoon · 26/02/2009 18:52

Even if it was good news I would be furious if I was your DD. I have never opened my DCs post, even when they were little.

georgimama · 26/02/2009 21:27

I'm really shocked by this, what a dispicable thing to do.

noonki · 26/02/2009 21:42

my mum opened my sister's first O-level result (taken a year early) and my sis still brings it up.

It doesnt take much to lose their trust at that age.

hope your good at grovelling.

deste · 26/02/2009 21:47

This sounds like her SVQ certificates from school. Every year it will be updated.

GetOrfMoiLand · 26/02/2009 21:49

You knew you were doing something wrong, yet you carried on and are now ridiculously laughing it off. You shouldn't have opened it.

My dd is 13 and I would not have dreamed of opening her post. FGS you knew it was something like exam results. How mean and childish of you.

drlove8 · 27/02/2009 11:00

UPDATE! . i just handed it dd and she didnt bat an eyelid, and i didnt glue it back or lie to her( why make it worse ?)... shes all chuffed with herself, quite right too!.my dd isnt one to be petty and childish( unlike me lol).anyway shes wanting to go to the pictures tonight with her mates, so she'll get a wee treat..she's pinned the thing to the fridge!.
