To want to get the bus to my own wedding...

My mum is a chilled out person mostly but when I said me and the OH were thinking of getting the bus to our wedding (just up the road) my mum said I shouldn't.

She's making the dress and says it will get creased, but we're going for lunch afterwards and I think if it is going to get creased it will anyway... unless I walk

No you cant go on the bus. What if you sit on some oiks chewing gum? It's supposed to be a special day, take a taxi.

yama · 21/02/2009 18:49

If it's just up the road a taxi won't cost much.

When is the big day Beanie?

mersmam · 21/02/2009 18:50

Getting the bus is a great idea - at least it will make things a bit different! My friend's best man hitchhiked to her wedding...

beanieb · 21/02/2009 18:52

July

I think she's being precious because she's making the dress

She offered to pay for a taxi. Maybe I am being precious

Wouldn't like to rely on any of our local buses, I must say. I'd walk or treat myself to a taxi.

We walked to our reception, round the corner from the church. It was like a big parade, with all our guests following us along the road.

DH's grandma got to ride in the Rolls Royce, that we had on standby in case of rain. The hotel staff assumed it was us and gave her the full red carpet treatment. You should have seen her draw herself up to her full 5'0" and march into the hotel!

edam · 21/02/2009 18:56

Your mum is right about creases, sorry. And what if some horrible kid spills their bottle of coke all over you?

Taxi would be practical but I like Ruby's suggestion of hiring a bus. My friend, a born and bred Londoner, did this for her wedding. Two red Routemasters carrying all the guests from wedding to reception, with the best men twirling round the pole! Very festive.

beanieb · 21/02/2009 18:57

ruby that is a great idea! We're taking close friends and family for a meal afterwards, maybe I can hire a bus to take all of us there?

Oh, take the bus, it would be wonderful - [exhibitionist emoticon] you would probably get a round of applause from the whole bus!

if that worried about creases, stand up

beanieb · 21/02/2009 19:04

I'm not going to be wearing a big frock, it's 1950's style, just below knee length, but I will look (feel) like a bride.

Actually - as I am quite scared about the attention maybe the bus is not a good idea!

Maybe my mum has a point

Hire a bus for your wedding, thats what I did if you want i can link you to some pics to see what it was like(well we had two different ones as original one we hired was a 1930's bus and broke down just as we pulled up as it had a hole in the manifold? and they didnt realise) they then sent out another one for the journey back and they gave us some money back for the hassel

My sister's DH got the bus to his wedding with 7 groomsmen (inc my DH) is full kilts. They looked amazing & such a cool way to get there.

beanieb · 21/02/2009 19:30

Febes · 21/02/2009 19:36

I got a bus from my wedding to the restaurant afterwards with DH and bridesmaid and best man. All the school kids on the bus whispered 'theres a bride' we got some great photos and sat in the back seat necking champagne. It was a highlight of the day.

beanieb · 21/02/2009 19:39

I think I need to be your friend on facebook, do you have a profile page you can put them on?

No worries if not

I'm on a budget, was it expensive.
