Was in today and had lunch with dp and ds2. THere was a table a little way from us with a woman and 2 boys, both in highchairs. One of about 3 and the other around 18 months (poss younger). She gets up and takes older one out of highchair and disappears for a few minutes. This other little one is on his own and competely unfazed. She returns and then later she leaves awith older one again, for a quite some time this time and the little one is calling mama. Is upsetting to see and was alreadyt concerned as she'd left him once. I kept an eye on him and when he was upset spoke to the waitress to fetch the woman (dont know if mum or grandmum) She returned and appeared to chatistise the little one and left again. The little one sucked his muzzie and thumb and just looked sad

After she returned the third time and packed them up, she lifted the youngest and put him in pushchair. Not once was their any affection visible or chatting or anything and this little one just seemed so sad.

Looking back now it really didnt feel right, you know the whole thing.

Now, is it the fact i have a lo that this upset me, or my crazy hormones or would this have worried most people?

I would have taken both children to the toilet, not left one there - however, I don't really think there's anything wrong with what she did.

thisisyesterday · 15/02/2009 21:54

how bizarre, i wonder where she went??

scrooged · 15/02/2009 21:55

It can be difficult to take your children to the toliet with you sometimes, especially if you are flooding like the red sea! I wouldn't want my son in the loo with me. What else could she have done?

MamaMaiasaura · 15/02/2009 21:55

ditto with taking them both. Just felt wrong and he was so little and could have choked or hurt himself or something. DOnt think he was at risk of being 'snatched' but just naturally it goes against instinct to leave a baby unattended like that.

If she had gone to the toilet i think she should have taken both children.
However she may have gone to salad bar , ice cream section.
This would be impossible to do with both toddler and baby in arms.
When you are on your own with 2 little ones its hard.
She likely would be able to see him from either of these places.
Good on her for taking two littlies out for lunch on her own.

I think the pushchair thing was pretty normal she was just doing necessary things doesnt show lack of affection tbh.

myfunnynametaken · 15/02/2009 21:55

I expect she was taking the 3 year old for a wee cause she just took him out of nappies.

MamaMaiasaura · 15/02/2009 21:56

Oh and i dont know if she went to the loo, presume though she disappeared 3 times in all.

If she was potty training even harder as you are forever in and out of the toilet.
Maybe she had asked waitress to watch out for her lo ?

myfunnynametaken · 15/02/2009 21:57

what would you do if you had a 3 year old just out of nappies and a 18 month old and you were alone in pizza hut?

Sassybeast · 15/02/2009 21:57

Possibly going for a fag then ?

4andnotout · 15/02/2009 21:57

I cant always physically carry dd3 (16m) and dd4 (15w) so i would have had to leave one unattended at a table to take the other to have a nappy change or to refil plates, so i dont think there was anything wrong with what she did.

misdee · 15/02/2009 21:58

my bil works in pizza hut s i often nip to loo leaving dd's at table without me.

MamaMaiasaura · 15/02/2009 21:58

guess it would be easier to exlpain if you'd been there. The waitress had trouble finding her and she wasnt in eye view as i got up and couldnt see her either.

Point taken about the just out of nappies (def not salad or pudding bar as came back empty handed ) So perhaps it was the whole toilet training thing. Just seemed bizarre leaving such a little one.

I think I would have at it but I applaud her on being able to take 2 children out.

loobeylou · 15/02/2009 21:59

I would not have left my 9 and 7 yr olds alone to take DS age 3 to the loo never mind a baby!

If either DD (9 and 7) wanted the loo and I could see the door from where I was sat, i would have sent them both TOGETHER

otherwise, no matter how inconvenient, we would all have gone.

scrooged · 15/02/2009 21:59

I wouldn't manage to go to the loo with a toddler and a baby. Surly she needed her hands for 'other things'?

MamaMaiasaura · 15/02/2009 22:00

Personally, i would leave ds2 unattended or even dc3 (if we get blessed). I would leave an older child unattended though.

NO WAY is that ok - what are you all thinking?!

God almighty!!!!!!

MamaMaiasaura · 15/02/2009 22:02

WOULDNT - not would

expatinscotland · 15/02/2009 22:02

I would never leave a child of either of those ages unattended like that.

If you're flooding like the red sea, stay home till it passes.

We had about a month of not going out much at all whilst DD1 was potty-training, till she got more reliable.

loobeylou · 15/02/2009 22:02

If she genuinely could not take both kids with her she ought to have asked the waitress or another family with kids to keep an eye on the baby for her

Lilyloo · 15/02/2009 22:02

How do you pull down pants / wipe bottom etc
with a baby in your arms ??

scrooged · 15/02/2009 22:02

What's she supposto do if she needs the toilet? Juggle the children with her spare hand? Leave them on the floor of the loo?

myfunnynametaken · 15/02/2009 22:02

what would you have done pottycock?

MamaMaiasaura · 15/02/2009 22:03

thanks expat - thought i was going crazy for a sec and being completely precious in not leaving my 13 month old alone in his highchair whilt i go for a pee. I dont even leave him unattended in highchair at home. THe safety precautions for one clearly state DO NOT LEAVE CHILD UNATTENDED.
