It's freezing and the ice-cream van has been around and around the estate annoying people with its overly loud chimes. Is this it, every day, now until October?

ours costs the earth and parks outside our house

hate them

bellavita · 15/02/2009 17:25

Ours came round yesterday - and parked right outside our house!!

giraffescantdancethetango · 15/02/2009 17:25

Ours comes every single day a good few times. Comes at 10pm too and stops right outside and does a LOUD whistle repeatedly. (Has a tune in day time) Lots of people rush out in their PJs to buy crap and fags

wotulookinatasquotedinTheTimes · 15/02/2009 17:27

I realise that, Marla, but it's still very annoying.

Last summer, he came into our road at 7.30pm every evening and parked opposite our house. It was just as we had put DS down to sleep and woke him up. After a while we asked him if he could come earlier - we could hear him in the estate somewhere - as then it wouldn't be so disturbing and we could actually buy something, but her never did.

YABU, its half-term holiday. Nowt wrong with eating icecream in cold weather.

Mind you, we have a sweet little chap who comes around at about 4pm on Saturdays (don't know if he did yesterday) not at antisocial hours so maybe I have a rosier view than some.

LoveMyLapTop · 15/02/2009 17:34

Dont be so miserable

wotulookinatasquotedinTheTimes · 15/02/2009 17:43

Bah Humbug! His cheerful chimes have been disturbing my MumsNetting. There was even the faint sound of children laughing in the air today

Thunderduck · 15/02/2009 18:11

YABU. They sell various things, not just ice cream anyway.

ssd · 15/02/2009 18:14

yeah, round my mums way they sell drugs too

kids eat enough crap, they should be banned!

(well mine do)

PeppermintPatty · 15/02/2009 18:16

Ours goes round all year round, at about 6 or 7 o'clock at night, even in winter when it's cold and dark.
DH is sure it's selling drugs or duty free ciggies as well as ice-cream.

edam · 15/02/2009 18:17

ooh, send him round our way, we never get ice cream vans here. I have fond memories of ice cream vans when I was little. My mother banned bubble gum but it was always Dad who took us to the ice cream van and he didn't know or didn't care that the lollies we chose had bubble gum in the bottom.

Thunderduck · 15/02/2009 18:18

Adults like their sweets too. I love creme eggs, I wish we had an ice cream van here.

nannyL · 15/02/2009 18:22

mine hasnt stopped all winter... even as late as 7pm when its FREEZING cold and PITCH black!

why?

Thunderduck · 15/02/2009 18:24

Because they sell sweets, crisps, household items, drinks etc and need to make money?

onagar · 15/02/2009 18:49

I'll second the Bah Humbug. What's happened to people these days?

Also if kids don't get used to sleeping through things when young they will have a miserable time later unless they can afford a soundproofed room

AnitaBlake · 15/02/2009 18:54

Its illegal to sound ice cream van chimes after 7pm, also illegal to sound them more than once every ten minutes! I work for the noise police!

giraffescantdancethetango · 15/02/2009 19:00

What about whistling Anita? (its definetly louder than the chimes)

ilovesprouts · 15/02/2009 19:17

OMG WHAT A THREAD TO START

wotulookinatasquotedinTheTimes · 15/02/2009 19:26

I had no idea that ice-cream vans sold anything other than ice-cream, canned drinks, and maybe drugs. Household items???!!! Really?

OP posts:
nickytwotimes · 15/02/2009 19:28

Ours comes every day of the year, last visit of the night is at 10pm, which does bug me, becasue I am often trying ot sleep then. Don't mind it at all at other times of the day or evening.

wotulookinatasquotedinTheTimes · 15/02/2009 19:30

Anita, is it really illegal after 7pm? I may put my uber-Bah-Humbug hat on and have a chat with him if the late-evening round starts again.

OP posts:
Thunderduck · 15/02/2009 19:30
