Thanks raisingrrrl

On a serious note, I just read a thread about a MN'er who was suffering PND and was thinking about leaving her family. She got soooo much support from everyone - how can anyone think this is pointless chitchat?

I know some of the questions are utter bs but its all relative? Isn't it?

HecateQueenOfGhosts · 14/02/2009 22:07

Wasn't here when Chat was introduced, but have read threads that say people said exactly the same thing about that!

Having said that, i want to slap people who put clear CHAT threads in AIBU. You scroll down AIBU - 90% of them DO NOT BELONG THERE BECAUSE THEY ARE JUST NATTERING!!!!!!!

Threads should be in the correct topic. [anal emoticon] Parenting questions in Parenting, educational queries in Education, nattering in Chat and dilemas that you want actual opinions on to help you make up your mind go in AIBU!! It's not rocket science, now is it? [stroppy]

It is the MISFILING that annoys me! I want to grab the threads and reorder them, "no, you go there, you out of that and in there, what are you thinking, people..."

(and yes, op, you are being unreasonable. MN is not going to the dogs. )

southeastastra · 14/02/2009 22:07

yes boys! it's just the aibu topic is open season

Mintyy · 14/02/2009 22:10

lol Hecate

Boys2mam · 14/02/2009 22:12

aibu seems to have unearthed a hard faced sort of one sided opinion poster

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 14/02/2009 22:15

I'm with hecate well said,

FWIW I find AIBU immensely entertaining ( although the past couple of days has been a little DULL!!!!

RiaParkinson · 14/02/2009 22:20

I do agree SEA i really do

Boys2mam · 14/02/2009 22:20

At the risk of being blacklisted for 'chatting' ( - Happy Valentines ladies x x x

Sassybeast · 14/02/2009 22:25

I think its hilarious. How else would you get over 700 posts on disabled toilets

And one of the reasons why it is so hilarious is that it seems to bring out the most offensive, vindictive side of people. 'Don't agree with the status quo ? You are a twat, prat, insert expletive of choice'

A shining example of grown women acting like idiots in forumsville at its best. No wonder MN hit the headlines

ahundredtimes · 14/02/2009 22:30

I think they're a bit annoying - because the question is annoying. If in RL someone said 'am I being unreasonable in asking you not to park your car there?' you'd want to hit them and say, 'yes you are being unreasonable' even if they weren't, even if you had quite unreasonably parked your car across their driveway.

Boys2mam · 14/02/2009 22:41

Oh ffs its a bit of fun!!! and if its a serious question, then we need to listen and advise.

MrsPurple · 14/02/2009 23:01

i like the AIBU posts, gives new people like myself the courage to post.

It's also has kept me sane realising I'm not the only one with some of these questions

TiggyR · 15/02/2009 00:05

Must reply to this - I am new here, only been posting for a few days, and having had a good look at AIBU I have a theory about it. It's the easiest way to get the measure of people and find out where you fit and who you have most in common with, and who best to avoid, because they'll disappoint you in the end. Better to cut to the chase on a contentious issue and then you know where you stand with certain people early on! Let's face it there are so many people on this forum it's a bit like spraying machine gun bullets otherwise. You can hit alot of people but they could all be the wrong target. Carefully coded and slightly provocative AIBU questions sort the wheat from the chaff. It's a good way to see who can stay calm and pleasant and still strongly debate an emotive topic and who is quick to get defensive, narky, self-righteous or downright spiteful. If you want a fairly accurate indicator of someone's character, intelligence, class, politics, and general take on life, you can do worse than to follow their AIBU posts!

bigcometobedeyes · 15/02/2009 00:07

Yeah yeah yeah, its a lazy topic area?

VinegarTits · 15/02/2009 00:22

Oh god i love AIBU, so YABU

If you no likey, then you can hide thee

AitchTwoOh · 15/02/2009 10:46

but the ability to hide it doesn't mean that it isn't irrevocably altering the tone of the rest of MN. i loathe it.

Hassled · 15/02/2009 11:04

I'm with Hecate on the need for proper filing. An AIBU that's actually a straightforward parenting question is like finding the MOT certificate in the Utilities Direct Debits file .

I really don't mind it - it brings out the worst in some and the best in others. I used it once - people were very kind, and told me in the nicest possible way that I was BU. And they were right, but I really did need internet strangers to point out the bleeding obvious.

PeachyHasABrokenKeyboardSorry · 15/02/2009 11:10

YANBU

sadly

I think theres moe to it than just that but yes AIBU has changed thing immensely

On the occasion I use it I always get YANBU- and I don't know if if I am NBU or if its The Oldie Factor, so gave up on it

PMSL that Ria used to be NAO; there was me thinking twas a nice newbie

Ronaldinhio · 15/02/2009 11:14

YABTU

I love AIBU, love it and I think mn would be a sadder place without it.

A lot of the points TiggyR made are right about aibu and at times I feel it shows the grittier side of mn and the true nature of a poster.

I know I sound insane but I love the many layers of mn. Please don't try to remove AIBU SEA

dearprudence · 15/02/2009 11:25
HecateQueenOfGhosts · 15/02/2009 11:27

Oh yes please yes please yes please

LadyOfWaffle · 15/02/2009 11:33

Better to keep it self contained (in AIBU) I love the way MN isn't a 'keeping up with the Jones'' site, you can be honest & open here. We all have moments in RL where we think (through the red mist) "was I being unreasonable?". I hate the notion of 'lowering the tone' etc., makes me feel I should post with my twinset & pearls! Maybe we need a [Hyacinth Bucket] emoticon?

TsarChasm · 15/02/2009 11:40

All the discussions on AIBU were around before it had it's own topic though. People would be just the same.

I'm puzzled when people look back misty eyed to mn's golden age and how it all used to be fields round here and now it's rubbish. When was that then?

Mn just 'is'. Different posters may come and go but it's basically the same imo.

Bits of it are supportive and bits of it aren't.

HecateQueenOfGhosts · 15/02/2009 11:43

TC - Back when you could leave the front door of your thread open all night and come back and nobody had pinched your OP, you mean?

TsarChasm · 15/02/2009 11:46

Aah Hecate those were the days.
