to fancy my husband just slightly less for pinching mini soaps from a hotel?

He had an extended work trip and ended up staying in a hotel for quite a while. When he got back he proudly presented me with a bag full of mini soaps and another of mini mouthwashes.

I don't have any moral issue with it.

It's not very sexy though, is it.

We don't even use mouthwash.

Mine has done this, but then tries to palm them off on friends when they come to stay

NoBiggyValentineItsBollox · 09/02/2009 09:24

YANBU, he should have brought you back a trouserpress and a couple of towels.

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 09/02/2009 09:26

Erm whilst I am firmly in the stealing the mini toiletries from a hotel camp (they are useful for when you go to a place that doesn't have toiletries). I think I would be slightly miffed if they were presented to me as a PRESENT. Did he just hand them over in a put these away manner or in a this is a present for you my darling wife (in which case myabe he is dropping a hint?)

girlandboy · 09/02/2009 09:27

Depends if they are the luxury versions or the cheap and nasty little white oblong soaps that you used to get in public toilets!

helenhismadwife · 09/02/2009 09:27

I dont mind the shampoo and body wash ones handy for when I go away for the weekend

NorbertDentressangle · 09/02/2009 09:27

Unless the soaps and mouthwash were presented to you as a Valentines gift I can't see your problem.

helenhismadwife · 09/02/2009 09:28

if they were a present I would have pointed out to him that flowers or chocolates are nicer

littlerach · 09/02/2009 09:31

Dh does thsi every week.
However, he stays in nice hotels so usually I get Molton Brown or Aveda

And not as presents, just cos he doen't use them, so gives them to me and dds.

BonsoirAnna · 09/02/2009 09:32

LOL

My DP used to do this until I told him to stop.

AliceTheCamelHasGotTheHump · 09/02/2009 09:42

James Bond wouldn't pinch the mini toiletries.

You are absolutely right, Alice.

My DP rather likes being compared to James Bond - good negotiation tactics.

NoBiggyValentineItsBollox · 09/02/2009 09:44

Ah yes "what would James Bond do?" a question we should all ask when faced with a dilemma.

mine presented me with a dressing gown a couple of weeks ago! i was secretly pleased as it was a nice one from a very nice hotel

bran · 09/02/2009 09:58

At least he was thinking of you while he was away, not just watching the porn channel or drinking himself into liver failure.

poppy34 · 09/02/2009 10:06

I tell dh that he HAS to bring them home if they are decent ones...

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 09/02/2009 10:10

My DH does this and it makes me like him more as its very sweet!

Buda · 09/02/2009 10:10

kiltycoldbum - did he buy it or steal it? It may appear on his credit card bill if he 'stole' it!

I once went away for a weekend with a girlfriend and I had paid for the room on my credit card. She stole and ashtray from the room and I got charged! I did make sure she paid me back.

Qally · 09/02/2009 10:12

I love them, if from a nice hotel! Aveda or L'Occitane or something. They're great for the swimming-pool showers.

I fear that makes me beneath James Bond's notice.

alibubbles · 09/02/2009 10:13

My DH is in Brussels for 6 months, I am going to get very fat on the free Godiva chocolates they put in his room/ I'm not talking one or two chocs, but whole boxes. Last week was a metal tin full of chocolate beans.... yum, this week was a box of very thickly chocolate coated orange, shame I have a dodgy tum at the moment.

kiltycoldbum · 09/02/2009 10:14

it was to keep as your own personal robe at a plush hotel/spa place so i was chuffed, though it doesnt actually go over my big fat pg belly just meets in the middle, still wearing it though! we go to a certain hotel in spain that has the nicest smelling toiletries ever, i dont remember the name of them but i steal it all when we're there, i have no shame!

immediately · 09/02/2009 10:50

I would be very proud of my DH for being so resourceful.

troutpout · 09/02/2009 11:03

yanbu
Mine does it too
it's just not sexy

bigeyes · 09/02/2009 11:07

My DH did this, they are in with the price of the room and I think it is resourceful too. I took them from our wedding night hotel at the malmasion and the smell of them for weeks afterwards reminded me of my wedding day. I still have the pencil too in my keepsake box.

To be frank I wouldnt equate this with 'sexy' one way or the other, I can think of other unsexy things my DH does which are far worse than bringing you what he thought were helpful little things to have in the house.

Simplysally · 09/02/2009 11:15

Did he bring the tea and coffee sachets too?

I take them as you don't get charged any less if you don't use them. I bag any stationery or pencils too - these odds and ends are often handy on future trips (I have a 'travelling drawer' where I keep these oddments, travel plugs, passport, travel wash etc, coins for airport trollies). Makes packing easier.
