to expect Tesco to phone earlier to cancel my delivery?

They just called to say they won't be able to deliver tonight - it was booked for 7 - 9pm.

I don't feel like trekking out for milk, etc, and the next slot available is Thursday 5 - 7pm.

Surely they must have known that they wouldn't get the deliveries done earlier today?

Far be it from me to defend Tesco but it did snow halfway through the afternoon in most places which may have caused them to alter their plans.

fruitshootsandheaves · 03/02/2009 17:13

Sainsburys are not delivering all week but there is a note on their website that if delivery was booked today they would be phoning.
However last time this happened I only found out coz it was on the radio news!
sounds like they are all in the same position but they should have phoned first thing so YANBU

gingernutlover · 03/02/2009 17:13

YANBU - they have known since yesterday that the snow was here. Lathough maybe they have had a huge amount of people not come in. Still think they should have let you know.

bigTillyMint · 03/02/2009 17:14

It didn't snow any more in Sarf East London this afternoon though

Very irritating. All delivery slots for Sainsbury's were blanked out for the whole of this week. Had to go out foraging for food today.

smellyeli · 03/02/2009 17:14

Aha - Ocado are coming - they have just texted me! That is a bit short notice from Tescos, though.

VintageGardenia · 03/02/2009 17:15

Irritating all right. OK if it didn't snow in your area I will let you off. Anything rather than give the Tescopolists the benefit of the doubt! If you have corner-shop-going-age children fire em their wellies and give em a list.

CantSleepWontSleep · 03/02/2009 17:22

They cancelled ours yest morning too. V little notice but the snow was recent. What pissed me off was that they wouldn't even pick the shopping for me to collect myself.
Have rebooked for tomorrow, and they'd better turn up, or poor dd isn't going to get everything sorted in time for her party.
No snow here today, and none forecast for tomorrow.

bigTillyMint · 03/02/2009 17:22

Ooohh - Ocado

mm22bys · 03/02/2009 17:29

At least they let you know.

I have used them reasonably often but twice they have just decided they weren't going to deliver, and let me know at 7.20pm when the delivery was booked for 5 - 7pm

The first time I kicked up a big stink and the manager of the local store did manage to get my order together and deliver it after his shift had finished, but the last time...

When I phoned they told me that the driver had knocked and left a card. I had been home all afternoon and there was definitely no knock and no card.

Then the store told me the order had been cancelled (of course by that stage the driver had finished his shift so they couldn't phone him to confirm he had actually even tried to deliver...

On the website it was showing up as being "delivered".

They are dreadful. G*d knows how they have been able to make as much money as they have...

bigTillyMint · 03/02/2009 17:30

Oh dear, that is my dread - that they don't come on Thurs and we will have NO food left by then!

HandleMeCarefully · 03/02/2009 17:31

Ocado sent me an email yesterday to say that they couldn't deliver and would attempt to deliver today at 19.30...but at 15.00 I got another email saying that might be able to deliver, and then again they might not. They are just not sure yet!

iwantitnow · 03/02/2009 17:33

thats why I have never had an online delivery from tescos again after they did this to me, with no notice. I use Ocado - they do tesco price match for loads of stuff

bigTillyMint · 03/02/2009 17:40

Maybe I'll give them a try next time.

I have used them every week for the last 3 years. I had a delivery book for yesterday between 5-7. They are usually excellent, delivery on time, if not early, great drivers etc. Wasnt suprised when they hadnt turned up by 7, at 7.15 I rang customer services, couldnt speak to anyone but there was a message saying that unless we had a phone call prior to the delivery slot all deliveries were being done. After spending ages trying to get through to local store today I found out 2 hours ago that all deliveries were cancelled and I should have been called.

I have had to rebook but earliest was friday. If they had said on the recorded message that all deliveries were cancelled I could have rebooked an earlier slot.

My order was showing delivered but apparently that is not relevant! as they do not charge until a box somewhere at the store has been ticked!!

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 03/02/2009 17:55

Mine was booked from 3-5 yesterday - they phoned at 4.59.... methinks they knew earlier that the delivery wouldn't happen earlier when Guildford had a foot of snow. Luckily we weren't expecting it because of the weather.... I've got one for tomorrow lunchtime. I bloody hope they give me more notice tomorrow, if they have to cancel....

bigTillyMint · 03/02/2009 17:55

TTT, thanks - I have just logged onto my account, and nearly had a heart attack.

The order is £60 more, because all the specials will have expired (wine, mainly )

I have rung cusomet services, so fingers crossed the nice woman I spoke to can sort it out.

Why is life so difficult?!

OP posts:
TwoToTango · 03/02/2009 17:58

the lady I spoke to at the local store was really helpful. I'm going to complain to .com though - all they had to do was have a recorded message that said that all deliveries were cancelled, instead they have probably made more work for themselves as people will have been expecting their orders!!

bigTillyMint · 03/02/2009 18:01

Yes, I phoned that line early this afternoon, and rang off after I heard the message, thinking I was OK.

Tell them I'm not happy either!

Blooming annoying, isn't it.

My Ocado order for tomorrow has been cancelled because they're behind in fulfilling all yesterday and today's orders.

I'm going to have to go t the supermarket with both dcs tomorrow, and it will be horrendous.

CantSleepWontSleep · 03/02/2009 21:15

I'll give you my list too odwam if Tesco don't deliver tomorrow! I'm too ill to go out.

ohdearwhatamess · 04/02/2009 11:17

Oh sorry CSWS, only just spotted this. Did you get your shopping?

I've just come back from doing mine - took me over an hour to get into H because of the roadworks. Normally 7 minutes from here.

If you are really stuck let me know and I can go back for you later this afternoon.

Is it the D&V thing that is going around? Don't worry about cancelling or postponing the party if you're not well - nobody will mind.

CantSleepWontSleep · 04/02/2009 11:44

Ah, is D&V going round? Thought it was just us! I just have the D, but dd has had V since Friday! Expect we'll be fine by the weekend

at how long it took to get to H. Was fine last time I went in, but haven't been out this week.

Tesco man just leaving now .

ohdearwhatamess · 04/02/2009 13:28

Glad you have food (even if you don't feel like eating it).

Yes, big notice on the school gates warning that lots of children have D&V atm. A few of my neighbours' children have had it too.

Hope you all feel better soon. Let me know if there's anything I can do.

CantSleepWontSleep · 04/02/2009 14:13

odwam - just had a call to say that toddlers is cancelled for tomorrow, as M worried about snow/ice. Can you let me know that you've seen this please.
