AIBU to loathe the huge flatscreen TV now sitting in my living room?

Our old, small, perfectly adequate TV was broken when the two year old threw his Thomas train at it.

This obviously provided dh with the perfect excuse to go out and buy some stupid, enormous flatscreen monstrosity which is now balefully sitting in the living room and pissing me off.

It just looks, there is no other word for it, common. And I just hate it.

When DH is out, I may load the kid up with the rest of his train collection and let him at it....

Oh I agree, they are vile.

We have a 32 inch TV that DH had when I met him. I hate it and would happily have something smaller.

I am a snob and you're right, they are common.

gonaenodaethat · 20/01/2009 20:36

I'll hang out with you. We have a 42 incher and it's great. Especially for movies.

OchAyeballsintheSky · 20/01/2009 20:36

Anyone with huge tvs feel free to send them to me. I can find a wall for them I love my flatscreen 32" but it's not big enough.

HecateQueenOfGhosts · 20/01/2009 20:38

gonae is next.

gonaenodaethat · 20/01/2009 20:40

And again. How can a telly be common? Common how?

chancelloroftheexCHEQUERS · 20/01/2009 20:40

Don't get me started on those stupid 'aspirational' american style fridges either.

cheerycherry · 20/01/2009 20:40

YANBU.I hate them too, like the fact they are flat but can't stand the huge ones, always look like the blokes are just showing off. Yuk.

MillyR · 20/01/2009 20:40

Okay, so how big is too big in a child's bedroom (secondary school age)?

gonaenodaethat · 20/01/2009 20:41

Thanks Hecate

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 20/01/2009 20:44

lol Hecate

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 20/01/2009 20:45

Omigod. I have a SMEG fridge as well - is that one of those stupid 'aspirational' american style fridges.

I am having a serious identity crisis here!

HecateQueenOfGhosts · 20/01/2009 20:46

I want one of those now, too, chancellor.

With ice maker.

I cried when we first got our 50 inch TV!! I'm kind of used to it now but still think it's a bit pointless if you're watching the news or some crap like 'Supersize v superskinny' which I've got on now!

HecateQueenOfGhosts · 20/01/2009 20:48

No hope for us at all, is there, Light?

HecateQueenOfGhosts · 20/01/2009 20:48

ta sweet.

Wanna swig of my 20/20?

gonaenodaethat · 20/01/2009 20:49

Thanks Hecate

LadyOfWaffle · 20/01/2009 20:50

YANBU, DH got one and I hate hate hate it. I swear the HV thought we were drug dealers or something, she kept looking at it and huffing. I have been tempted to sell it but then I am done pleasing other people. If someone thinks I am common because DH likes watching rugby on a stupidly large TV that's their problem. I watched Lord of the Rings on it the other night - it was like being at the cinema

LaundryFairy · 20/01/2009 20:51

My parents were recently enthusing to me about their new 60 inch television. I tried so hard not to sound too negative - they already have me down as a bit of a snob. Even though they live in a big old farmhouse with giant rooms, this is still utterly grotesque to me!

chelseamorning · 20/01/2009 20:52

I hate them!

Also, I hate them because people tend to have them on REALLY LOUD too!!!!

Keeping my fingers crossed that mine (15 yrs old) doesn't conk out. It's small but, as we don't watch much telly, it's enough for us.

Btw, my mother said at Christmas that she hates watching our telly as it's too small! I'm wondering if that's why they decided not to come for the big event!

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 20/01/2009 20:53

Hecate - go on, tell me you have an 'aspirational' fridge as well!!

HecateQueenOfGhosts · 20/01/2009 20:55

No. But I want one.

It appears there is no hope for me and I am common as muck.

julen · 20/01/2009 20:55

Move telly to shed? Yard? Car? Skip?

onager · 20/01/2009 20:57

I don't think you can get the old style TVs anymore so you would have to go flatscreen.

Mine is only 26" but I'd have got 34" if I'd had the money at the time. Remember that when you watch older non-widescreen films they can end up smaller (in height) then on your old TV otherwise.

lovelysongbirdie · 20/01/2009 20:58

we have had a42inch plasma for about 5 years, it was very unusual when we got it, everyone was like whoooah.
although i do think they look a bit funny they are great for watching movies.

i like it, luckily we also have a pretty big living room so it fits in well
