AIBU to expect to find a "Parent and Child" space when I go to the supermarket?

I tend to shop at a huge Asda. We live in the countryside and it is our nearest supermarket.

Since DS was born 19 weeks ago, I guess I have been about 10 times. I always check out the Parent spaces and, so far, have never found one free. So I end up parking at the very far end of the car park where I can find two or three spaces together so I can open the car doors to get DS's car seat out and carry him miles to the shop. A lot of the time there have been cars in the P&C spaces that I suspect are not actually P&S cars (two seaters, sports cars with luggage all over the back seat).

On about half my visits there have not been any of those trolleys that I can put his car seat in either.

I have asked customer services if they could consider adding more P&C spaces or policing the existing ones. They have not been interested and have suggested that I shop at different times of day, although all my vists have been at different times of day! (well morning or afternoon, DS hasn't really got into 24hr shopping yet).

I would shop online, but they won't come to us.

The flip side is that our local economy is thriving as I can't be bothered with the big supermarkets any more. But they are handy for things like cans and breakfast cereal.

Are you know to MN

cheesesarnie · 19/01/2009 21:49

it is okay.it will not hurt.it is raher annoying but its a parking space.

rubyslippers · 19/01/2009 21:50

oh dear ....

P & T places are not compulsary, just a courtesy

the trolleys are a seperate issue ... that must be a PITA

fledtoscotland · 19/01/2009 21:52

dont do this discussion on MN - you will get shot down in flames by people who will tell you that walking across the carpark wont kill you and that p&c spaces are a luxury rather than a right.

i personally agree it a pain in the backside traipsing one 4month old and one 15month old to the supermarket door dodging traffic etc and think there should be more p&c spaces.

(also i thought asda fined people who parked in the spaces when they didnt have children in carseats - ours certainly do)

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 19/01/2009 21:53

Oh you are brave

YABU to expect a parent and child space. Did you not realise that they are for the convenience of any lazy arse who wishes to park there?

FfreckleFface · 19/01/2009 21:55

Do what I do (also a bit rural here) - use the local shops for meat, veggies, etc, then once a month I get a 'big shop' delivered. (Washing powder, nappies, tins, dog food, toilet paper etc). For the £5 the delivery costs it is soooooo worth it.

P&T threads are a bit of a regular occurrence on MN, so you might want to brace yourself...

FfreckleFface · 19/01/2009 21:56

Sorrysorrysorry - just saw that you can't shop online. Have you tried alternative supermarkets?

wheresthehamster · 19/01/2009 21:56

With a 19 week old it is your job to stay in the warm and be a 'mother' and it's DP's job to do the weekly shopping. Those are the rules - have you forgotten everything you learned at AN classes?

(ooh you must be feeling brave tonight...)

There is a P&C parking space law - they are only free if you haven't got DC in tow!

ilovemydogandMrObama · 19/01/2009 23:00

Occupied usually by a single bloke in a Transit Van on a mobile phone smoking a cigarette!

FossilSister · 19/01/2009 23:24

Have you not been keeping up with threads - probably occupied by someone who's TTC and feeling a bit like a lie-down.

of course you should have the space over someone who isn't entitled to it - its a no brainer, not sure what the popcorn and hats are for

is it becuase someone will turn it into a disabled space conversation? that always pissed me off.

throw an egg at it

fryalot · 19/01/2009 23:33

yes, MrsBD. Someone will turn it into a P & T v disabled space conversation and it will all get very ugly

wanna piece of popcorn?

wotulookinat · 19/01/2009 23:34

oh yes, Starlight, trollies can be soooo heavy, especially when going past sports cars in the parent and child bays! I must remember that one.

wotulookinat · 19/01/2009 23:35

so what if the argument conversation has been had before - I could have it a thousand times.

Lurkinaround · 19/01/2009 23:36

'Throw an egg at it'

That is excellent advice and I'm going to use it at every available opportunity from now on

fryalot · 19/01/2009 23:37

wotulookinat - I wasn't complaining! I was settling down for a good 'un

(fwiw, I can't stand it when perfectly able bodied childless folk nick the p & t spaces either)
