AIBU to expect to find a "Parent and Child" space when I go to the supermarket?

I tend to shop at a huge Asda. We live in the countryside and it is our nearest supermarket.

Since DS was born 19 weeks ago, I guess I have been about 10 times. I always check out the Parent spaces and, so far, have never found one free. So I end up parking at the very far end of the car park where I can find two or three spaces together so I can open the car doors to get DS's car seat out and carry him miles to the shop. A lot of the time there have been cars in the P&C spaces that I suspect are not actually P&S cars (two seaters, sports cars with luggage all over the back seat).

On about half my visits there have not been any of those trolleys that I can put his car seat in either.

I have asked customer services if they could consider adding more P&C spaces or policing the existing ones. They have not been interested and have suggested that I shop at different times of day, although all my vists have been at different times of day! (well morning or afternoon, DS hasn't really got into 24hr shopping yet).

I would shop online, but they won't come to us.

The flip side is that our local economy is thriving as I can't be bothered with the big supermarkets any more. But they are handy for things like cans and breakfast cereal.

Hey ... I drive a sports car and have a child in it !!!

Not everybody is selfish

OMG - when we were a 1 car family and DD was a tiny baby, I used to borrow DH's 2 seater sports car to go to the supermarket. I would park in a parent and child space and take the baby seat into the shop with me. Thank goodness I was never egged, or trollied!

Am I the only one who loudly tells people they've left their child in the car/ shop?

I've also been known to trip over, as I'm rather unsteady on my crutches, next to cars that shouldn't be there (as I'm rather unsteady on my crutches).

The police were called to my local Tesco not long ago when someone blocked someone else in for not having a child, but TBH I don't know why people worry at my local, the spaces are all identical size and in a multi-story so there is a bollard on one side of every space.

I can't understand why so many people take children with them when they are doing large shop - it is so much hassle even if you do get a P & C space. I used to do mine late at night when DH home and children in bed, or on way home from work.P&C places are a bitprovocative to those who don't take their children shopping, spend loads of money and then have to lug everything right across the car park - I do think that when we spend £5k plus at a shop during a year we all deserve excellent service, packers and a carry out service.

higgle people have to take their cute dc's with them , so when I am bored rigid in a que, I can admire their off spring and make faces at them

CrackopentheBaileys · 20/01/2009 18:53

lol at saint.

I try to be a reasonable person, but what would you suggest if there are no spaces that I can get the car seat out of, and about 20 disabled spaces left?

saint2shoes · 20/01/2009 18:56

YOU DO NOT PARK IN THE DISABLED BAY

Yes.

CrackopentheBaileys · 20/01/2009 19:02

whoa there with the aggression this is a discussion no?

My point, which you may not have read earlier in the thread, is that my local js has a car park that has stupidly small spaces, and unless I can find a space on the end of the run, I either couldn't get dd out, or couldn't get her back in when some twat parks on my door whilst I'm in there. I hasten to add that I don't have this issue anymore as dd is now 1.
Also, an omitted point thus far is that I had pretty debilitating SPD and had mobility issues for a couple of months after the birth. I wasn't entitled to a temporary badge how bloody lame is that! But thats a whole nother thread!

Yes I see your point Riven, like I say, I like to think that I am a reasonable person. I guess that sometimes it's pretty hard to see throught the fog of your own personal struggles.
I did only do it once

lol God guys I'm not the devil incarnated! I couldn't get dd out of the car!!! Should I have dragged her through the boot? Or maybe dumped her at the side of the road whilst I parked the car minus car seat. Jeez, I have already shown that I did it once, like you are all perfect and have never had a moment of deluded inconsideration in your lifetime?

There were loads of disabled spaces left, and I went in and spoke to the staff about it before I started shopping.
