OMG- i'm so upset.... just been on my FB and some idiot so-called 'friend' who worked for DH a couple of years ago has put the comment 'looks like a frog' on my 20wk scan picture!! I mean what a heartless idiot thing to say, DH doesn't understand why it's upset me so much... but i mean- saying my unborn baby girl looks like a frog isn't nice by anyones standards surely??

YANBU.

Delete this so called 'friend' from your fb and don't give it another thought.

compo · 18/01/2009 08:31

yabu

they don't really look like much on the scan and it just sounds like a typical bloke comment to me. And it is the informal world of facebook too, people type things on there that they wouldn't say to people they don't know very well

maybe your hormones are making you extra sensitive?!!

congratulations by the way

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 18/01/2009 08:35

you see it doesn't bother me what he actually thinks- but putting that comment on my photo- i dont think i can delete it or anything so its now there for as long as i keep the photo on!! I know its a typical blokes thing to say, but its just upset me!! and she does look like a real baby- its a very clear picture.... i'm gutted!!

OP posts:
ilove · 18/01/2009 08:38

Yes you can delete it if you have posted the photo

twentypence · 18/01/2009 08:40

Get ready for people to tell you your newborn looks like Winston Churchill.

You need to spend the next 20 weeks getting a thicker skin.

IAmTheNewQueenOfMN · 18/01/2009 08:40

you can delete it fromthe picture
men dont feel the same way about scan pictures as women generally
also it isn't his baby

YAB quite a bit U

chill out
delete the comment

dont delelte your friend he never meant to hurt you

IAmTheNewQueenOfMN · 18/01/2009 08:41

and I agree with twentypence

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 18/01/2009 08:44

This is my third DC, i've neverhad anyone say anything like that before... i didn't think it would be sociably acceptable to make such a comment!! especially saying someones newborn look anything other than beautiful is just wront IMO!!

OP posts:
IAmTheNewQueenOfMN · 18/01/2009 08:46

lol seriously??

your dc aren't the most beautiful thing in the world to random male friends of yours you know

he was quite stupid to post it but its not the worst thing in the world

twentypence · 18/01/2009 08:48

It's a medical scan. To check for serious medical conditions in your unborn infant. I really question whether FB is the place for such a picture.

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 18/01/2009 08:50

i'd put the picture on to show some friends that i dont see often enough to show the real thing to... i dont expect my baby to be the most beautiful thing to anyone other than me and my DH etc... bt i just feel that making that comment for others to see was incredibly heartless!!

OP posts:
IAmTheNewQueenOfMN · 18/01/2009 08:50

agree again with twentypence

I never showed my scan pictures to anyone but dh, gps and a couple of very close friends

tbh, when I think about it, your a little strange to post it on fb

IAmTheNewQueenOfMN · 18/01/2009 08:51

not incredibly heartless, just a little unthinking

and what about email?

Tee2072 · 18/01/2009 08:53

I don't agree with those who say the scan pic should be private. Mine will go up in my blog, although not on my Facebook. But I also don't see why you are so upset. It probably does look a bit like a frog.

Tee2072 · 18/01/2009 08:54

Oh and if that is truly bothering people, don't click here

Tee, I dont have a problem with scan pictures being uploaded to fb or blogs, tis up to you

I wouldn't and I would also think that if I did I would be inviting comments that maybe I wouldn't want....as has happened here

but you're right, it probably does look like a frog

ok- so maybe IABU... have deleted the comment and will be removing the photo now... forgive me for being a little sensitive when someone says my baby looks like an animal though... i didn't think it was 'right' to say something like that about anyone elses child, be it about a scan, newborn or an older child...

My DD DID look like winston churchill but only I was allowed to point it out!! And she had those gorgeous squidgy thighs that you just HAVE to keep squeezing.

OP, people just don't think, so if it bothers you and you can delete it, do so. It is natural to feel so protective of your unborn. You know, and we know they are the most beautiful little people in the world and you probably need to try and move on and find a way of just enjoying your pregnancy again.
Congratulations by the way..

Buda · 18/01/2009 09:06

A bit unsure as to why you would put a scan pic on FB in the first place. FB is pretty much public property and you should not put anything up that you are not prepared for both positive and negative comments tbh.

'saying someones newborn look anything other than beautiful is just wront IMO!!' - but it is NOT a pic of a newborn. It is a scan pic. Everyone makes comments about them. DH's comment on our first scan pic of DS ws that he looked like a cockroach!

So I am afraid that yes YAB a bit U!

Tee2072 · 18/01/2009 09:07

marla I thought mine looked like a blob. And I said so to people when I showed it to them. But that was a really early one, like 8 weeks.

And I still don't think its mean to say it looks like a frog. Only honest.

jojosmaman · 18/01/2009 09:14

one word, hormones.

Yabu for it to have bothered you enough to have posted it in AIBU

aGalChangedHerName · 18/01/2009 09:16

I wouldn't put pics on FB unless i was prepared to have smart arse comments on them tbh.

Lots of new borns are..... well not v pretty iyswim? And i don't think i have ever seen a "lovely" scan pic either. Those 4d thingys are creepy too imo. I wouldn't say anything mean tho i just politely say how nice it is.

You are being a bit over sensitive, but you are pg so i suppose it's allowed.
