OMG- i'm so upset.... just been on my FB and some idiot so-called 'friend' who worked for DH a couple of years ago has put the comment 'looks like a frog' on my 20wk scan picture!! I mean what a heartless idiot thing to say, DH doesn't understand why it's upset me so much... but i mean- saying my unborn baby girl looks like a frog isn't nice by anyones standards surely??

YABU
Half of them look like frogs when they're born as well, IMO. Queen Victoria agreed with me on this. When people thrust newborns at me to hold, I often think 'So what?' and just hold them to be polite and because I think I am supposed to want to. Babies look much better from 6 weeks or so and are absolutely gorgeous from 12 weeks.

BoffinMum · 18/01/2009 09:19

PS So do their mothers!!

mysterymoniker · 18/01/2009 09:21

YAB hormonal

NotADragonOfSoup · 18/01/2009 09:22

[shrug] my mother said BabyDragon looked like a pterodactyl in the scan. She was right.

NotADragonOfSoup · 18/01/2009 09:23

DS2 looked like William Hague. It was freaky. I'd glance down at him in the car seat next to me and think "F*ck! When did I shag the tory leader??"

edam · 18/01/2009 09:35

Very early on in their development, they go through stages of looking positively reptilian.

The person who commented isn't dissing your baby, merely the grainy, unclear scan of a foetus who looks like a foetus i.e. not yet a fully developed baby. I'm sure once baby arrives he won't say anything to upset you.

mm22bys · 18/01/2009 09:36

YABU, and you need to toughen up a bit!
Don't delete your friend....not worth losing a friend over (and honestly? you can't see much in a scan photo anyway, it's only a light-hearted comment!)

Congratulations...

mm22bys · 18/01/2009 09:37

And what's wrong with looking like a frog anyway? Frogs are beautiful

noonki · 18/01/2009 09:37

lol dragon

YABU over sensitive - DS1 looked like a squashed tomato when he was born and when I said it out loud everyone sighed and laughed coz they had all been thinking the same thing.

He was of course the most beautiful squashed tomato in the world

Men who don't have kids have no idea how sensitive (pregnant) women can be.

BoffinMum · 18/01/2009 09:40

mm22bys, I bet there is a Frogsnet out there somewhere where the frogs are complaining their offspring look like humans!

MmeLindt · 18/01/2009 09:42

Don't lose a friend over it, it was a bit insensitive but he probably thought he was being funny and did not know it would upset you.

DD looked like a Gummibear on her first scan

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 18/01/2009 09:54

My DS looked like a tortoise for the first couple of months.

yab a bit u.

kerala · 18/01/2009 10:04

I am abit of a luddite with regards to FB and shudder at the thought of publicly displaying personal stuff on the internet for reasons like this.

Also if you are sensitive make sure you pick a very popular name. I was abit taken aback when telling people dd2's name to be met with silence or "hmm how unusual".

Also midwives and HV can be pretty tactless (although in my postnatal hormonal state I took the most innocuous (sp) comment from them to be a grave criticism!)

LynetteScavo · 18/01/2009 10:04

IMO, DD looked like Bart Simpson at her 20 week scan, which is why I didn't show any one! Thankfully she was born with a chin.

I think it's kind of sweet that this guy has actually acknowledged the picture.

LynetteScavo · 18/01/2009 10:06

Kerala - I got upset when my midwife didn't comment on DS1's name. It's not at all unusual, but the fact that she didn't say "That's nice" got me in a tiz.

naturalbornmum · 18/01/2009 10:54

YABU - it is probably your hormones.

PinkTulips · 18/01/2009 11:28

o dear..... you really need to calm down a bit love.

sounds like a typical boyish thing to say and no harm meant by it.... they do look weird on early scans imo.

god help you when your name picking if you're this sensitve!

nappyaddict · 18/01/2009 11:41

YABU - scan pics don't look like anything.

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 18/01/2009 12:27

luckily the name we've picked isn't at all unusual... plain and simmple, yet very pretty!! the comment isn't bothering me anymore, have deleted it and trying to forget.

I am VERY hormonal when PG, and DH has pointed this out to me... But a bit of pram shopping this morning has lightened my mood!!

PFB alert

I used to call my DD an alien!

nappyaddict · 18/01/2009 12:42

me too

LucyEllensmummy · 18/01/2009 12:45

actually edam, you are right, in fact it is very difficult to distinguish human embryos from chickens and reptile embryos at certain stages - so perhaps your friend is just being pedantic.

Im sure your baby girl will be just beautiful, i "photo-shopped" my scan picture to make DD look like she was giving the world the finger, maybe you could do the same with a little voice bubble (so, i look like a frog hey - spin on this!!) or something equally silly.

nothing like a bit of pram shopping, even when you are not pregnant!
