Don't see OPs problem. She can always keep the child at home and pay for intensive elocution lessons.

AND WHY OH WHY DO THEY INSIST ON USING YORKSHIRE ACCENTS ON TV WHENEVER THEY WANT TO PORTRAY SOMEBODY AS A BIT COMMON OR DIM?

(Apologies if anyone finds this question offensive - am common and slightly dim northerner myself, of course. )

ScottishMummy · 14/01/2009 16:06

oh the ignimony of it all!yes complain.after all the best accent is of course scottish

cazboldy · 14/01/2009 16:08

I would be more concerned that he will learn swear words

TallulahToo · 14/01/2009 16:08

Ha! That reminds me. Equity standard potentially agressive personality is always scottish!

Pinkjenny · 14/01/2009 16:09

And dodgy behaviour/theft is always played by scousers!

Pinkjenny · 14/01/2009 16:09

TallulahToo · 14/01/2009 16:09

Don't blame me for that. Cracker, Rab C Nesbit....

Should have said 'drunk' too.

Not my personal opinion, you understand. Just pointing out the injustice of tv land.

ScottishMummy · 14/01/2009 16:11

so presumably OP is accentless perfectly ennunciated but potty mouth swears like navvy

TallulahToo · 14/01/2009 16:15

Big question is, What accent were you hoping for? What is trendy in CHAV land? Something a bit more 'street'?

SaltireOShanter · 14/01/2009 16:15

You see you are all referring to "North" as being Yorkshire, Lancashire, etc. To me, north is this , particularly the bit in yellow that says Highland

wotulookinat · 14/01/2009 16:23

Oi, Bucharest , that's my accent that you are calling hideous

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 14/01/2009 16:25

not funny, jog on.

BlueSapphire77 · 14/01/2009 16:32

Send him here you'll love the black country accent he comes back with, not to mention the extra swearwords i'll teach him, i'll throw those in for free

Clarissimo · 14/01/2009 16:36

No no MP

A nice accent, morris dancing AND carnival. Ace. ()

Hilarious thread, but YANBU, graduates with RP are the only people who should be employed near children, you of course will not mid paying a salary that reflects that

Which sounds like I dont think Northerners have degrees when of coutrse they do, just taking a mite of the piss.

Clarissimo · 14/01/2009 16:37

'AND WHY OH WHY DO THEY INSIST ON USING YORKSHIRE ACCENTS ON TV WHENEVER THEY WANT TO PORTRAY SOMEBODY AS A BIT COMMON OR DIM? '

Have you seen casualty? They make my lots look like fuckwits-inc.com.

TallulahToo · 14/01/2009 16:52

fw-inc.com! Clarissimo not seen casualty where is this land of low intelligence that you speak of? I need to come home!

I feel a bit peeved - You get Casualty.

As a national example of Yorkshire we get bloody Emerdale - Hanging out with pigs & goats, drinking large amounts of alcohol daily and strange goings-on at the post office! We have Harvey Nicks for heaven sake! Jimmy Choos in farmland!

Clarissimo · 14/01/2009 16:53

It's the south west (becuase on there, accents between bristol and Cornwall are all the same LOL)

Clarissimo · 14/01/2009 16:53

(And don't feel abd about Emmerale, Ia ctually ahil from Somerset we get.... oh nothing LOL)

TallulahToo · 14/01/2009 16:56

Arrhh! Somerset - Scrumpy 'n' skittlin', tractor language land - (I heard this description from an ex-work colleague)

Do we share the same morris dancers then?

TallulahToo · 14/01/2009 16:59

Forgot to say, I apologise to the world on behalf of all Leodians for our pitiful offering that is Emmerdale. It's getting like bloomin' Midsummer round here. Stay away for your own safety.

BigGitDad · 14/01/2009 17:02

saltire, scots aren't northern they are scottish.

MrsMagooo · 14/01/2009 17:04
Hmm
chosenone · 14/01/2009 17:22

Colloquialism's amd dialect are part of the rich tapestry of life, surely if you want correst English a nursery attached to a Private school is the way forward! You can not expect that independent nurseries are going to attract people with 'posh' accents, like most professions people come form all over the place!

TallulahToo · 14/01/2009 17:34

Not guaranteed even then.

I know a mum who lived in a tiny hell-hole but worked nights in a factory to send her son to public school to give him chances. Never a guarantee that OP's DS wouldn't make friends with one of 'these estate people' and still pick up their accent.

Or meet them at the bus stop, or even walking down the street.

OMG! Sorry OP really didn't want to panic you there.

Suggest you buy a small island and home ed the little darling.

Judy1234 · 14/01/2009 17:51

Pick a posher nursery. I grew up in the North but we never had the accent because our parents didn't and our independent schools didn't.
