I would be more concerned that he might learn Anglo-Saxon fromm his mother if the title of this topic is anything to go by. Do people really have to use foul language in their posts?

Lulumama · 14/01/2009 12:53

anyone else reading pies and prejudice ?? i know what a babbies yed is !

genius, genius book.

and i know why skelmersdale is called skelmersdale

my life is complete

still snoooorting at ;watford!

wotulookinat · 14/01/2009 12:59

My DS is 2 and we live in Yorkshire, although DH and I are from London and have common south London accents. We're both really pleased at the lovely Yorkshire accent DS is getting

ladyjuliafish · 14/01/2009 13:18

dd has a derbyshire accent. Its odd. Due to her rich cultural heritage she does know what howay man hinny hoy a hamma owa here means and can speak a little brummie and chinglish too. She is very talented and needed no expensive tuition to become multilingual.

mumof2222222222222222boys · 14/01/2009 13:23

My problem is that we also pay about the same amount and DS has got SHOCK HORROR a southern accent. Well, if you're Sqonk, you might classify it as northern as we're near Watford. I wasn't too impressed with, "I don't want nuffink else, thanks." and am forever saying "It's not "them" toys/biscuits/clothes, it's THOSE toys etc..."

Ah well, he'll grow out of it says ex Yorkshire lass who used to get asked where she was from when she went home for holidays!

edam · 14/01/2009 13:30

When I first moved down to London from Yorkshire I was amazed how ignorant some Southerners were. Regarded Yorkshire as some far off quaint place. They seemed to think we all had whippets, wore flat caps and lived in back-to-backs.

Used to get exclamations of amazement that they could actually understand me. Fuckers.

wotulookinat · 14/01/2009 13:32

Well we had our flat caps and whippet ready so we would fit in when we moved up here, but we haven't had to use them yet as the Yorkshire folk have been very friendly. We've been here 18months now.
In fact, I should check on that whippet - I put him the cupboard when we moved...

ArtfulDodger · 14/01/2009 13:33

my mil has just had new lifts installed in her block of flats, the lift talks to you in a yorkshire accent (she lives in london) she really likes it, makes a nice change.

VinegarTits · 14/01/2009 13:33

Oh lulumama, why is Skemerdale called Skemerdale??

Tell me, tell me (dont make me read the book)

I live near there

12StoneNeedsToBe10 · 14/01/2009 13:42

So do I... why is Skelmersdale so called Lulumama??

hifi · 14/01/2009 13:45

lol, proves who talks to him more.

OrmIrian · 14/01/2009 13:49

While we were buffing up regional stereotypes can I please raise an objection to the word 'Southerners'. Generally it is taken to refer to those in and around London and the south-east. I am a 'southerner' in that I was born and live in the southern half but I am not and never have been from the south-east. There is a big chunk of the 'south' that isn't the south-east.

wotulookinat · 14/01/2009 13:54

I object tobeing called a southerner. I'm from London. I'm a Londoner.

Yeah!

Do we?

OneLieIn · 14/01/2009 14:04

Well, at least he'll learn how to swear from you.

TallulahToo · 14/01/2009 14:09

Whoa! Raises a question of who speaks to him more.....

wotulookinat · 14/01/2009 14:09

I don't effin swear!

Tanee58 · 14/01/2009 14:31

Yeay, I understood the hammer sentence. Does that make me an honorary Northerner??

I'm actually a bi-lingual Londoner - that is, I can speak posh North London and Norf Larndon - and DD is multi-lingual - she can speak most of the accents in her school. We just like accents.

Having just come back from the Lakes, can anyone tell me if it's correct to call Derwentwater 'Durrentwatter' or am I trying to be too ethnic?

mm22bys · 14/01/2009 14:42

We're paying alot more than £900 a month (cheapskate, jeeze!) and we're getting a lovely eastend accent!

Will go down really well when we return to Oz in a couple of months time!

sweetkitty · 14/01/2009 14:45

What a laugh

Why don't you stop complaining about how much it costs, jack in your job and look after your own children then, maybe then you can teach them to have a "proper" accent?

Pinkjenny · 14/01/2009 15:05

Lulu - what is this talk of Skelmersdale? Surely not an area that you frequent from your mansion in Southport??

foxytocin · 14/01/2009 15:13

lol at OP. i take it your budget does not stretch to a Norland Nanny.

first question: what do you think £900 per mo shold buy you for childcare, I mean? An Oxford Grad?

Bucharest · 14/01/2009 15:14

YANBU I'd feel exactly the same if my PFB came home with a hideously common southern accent.
FFS.

Bucharest · 14/01/2009 15:16
