To consider reporting friend to freecycle?

Stonehenge · 12/01/2009 11:35

My friend makes a mockery of Freecycle for her own ammusement. She posts offers of stuff that she has no intentions of giving away, expensive stuff just to see how many replies she will get and what stories people will come up with to get it.

So far she's offered an Ipod nano, wii fit, a bin liner full of designer women's clothes and now she's just offered an xbox 360. She has no intention of giving any of this stuff away, she just likes to read the replies.

She gets stuff like "we were flooded and all of my daughters things got destroyed, we were not insured so all our money has had to go and re-building our lives and we've not been able to buy her anything since. Getting this xbox would make her entire year.

etc! most are obviously made up or exagurated but I can't help thinking some might be true and she's getting their hopes up for nothing.

She is a close friend and I feel guilty reporting her but I think she's being out of order.

Should I report her or just stay out of it?

Report her.
Freecycle shouldn't be there for people to take the piss

report her - thats a horrible thing to do.

she'll never know it was you.

Lauriefairycake · 12/01/2009 11:37

All I know is she wouldn't be my friend after that.

Vicariously getting off on other people's misery - big yuk.

piratecat · 12/01/2009 11:37

it's all a bit odd, and very pathetic. i would stay out of it, and also consider wether this person was worth being mates with.

Tinker · 12/01/2009 11:37

This is what worries me about Freecycle - your friend and the type of reply you've posted above. I cannot imagine being that bored that I'd do what she does though

cmotdibbler · 12/01/2009 11:38

I'd report her to the mods as I think that it is def against the spirit of Freecycle, if not immoral

FantasticMissFox · 12/01/2009 11:38

IMO this is out of order and NOT the point of Freecycle. YANBU to report her. Have you tried talking to her about why she does it?

kitbit · 12/01/2009 11:38

Of course some are genuine and she's being a bitch . Having the capacity to laugh at others' misfortune is not an attractive quality, and if she were my friend yes, I would report her. There are enough people wrecking the nice karma thing that Freecycle can provide, one less would be a good thing.

ReginaFelange · 12/01/2009 11:39

You should report her. You know that. It makes a mockery of the people who want to use it for a proper purpose

Jenice · 12/01/2009 11:40

YANBU

Tell her you think she is being really mean and that there are many poor souls in this world and mocking them is just really awful.

If she was in need how would she feel if people laughed at her sad story.

poshwellies · 12/01/2009 11:40

You friend is a fucking fruitloop

warthog · 12/01/2009 11:40

that's a pretty awful thing to do.

poshwellies · 12/01/2009 11:41

Your

brimfull · 12/01/2009 11:41

what a bizarre thing to do?

she needs to get a life

Stonehenge · 12/01/2009 11:42

I have spoken to her, said I don't agree with it and she just says its because I'm bitter than I never get anything from freecycle when I reply to threads (not true and I hardly ever reply unless its something I REALLY want).

She also gets stuff just to sell on.

I will report her.

Molesworth · 12/01/2009 11:47

If she is always posting stuff to the same Freecycle group, surely the admins have cottoned on to her 'scam' by now?

Agree with the others; she sounds like an idiot.

PheasantPlucker · 12/01/2009 11:48

She sounds really pathetic to me. Sorry and all that. I would deffo report her. How sad. She needs a life!!

Stonehenge · 12/01/2009 11:51

She posts follow ups to each item saying "This has now been collected" etc so it doesn't look suss.

She's always taking the piss out of people. Not sure why, I put it down to her being depressed and low on self esteem but I still don't think it's any excuse.

Flibbertyjibbet · 12/01/2009 11:51

I think it is odd that this is all she uses freecycle for.. oh and there you say she takes stuff from freecycle to sell on

I have to admit though that sometimes I have a good laugh at all the 'me please' emails I get when I've occasionally posted stuff on freecyle.

LoveBeingAMummy · 12/01/2009 12:26

How sad that this is how she gets kicks, and even sadder that she thinks it funny enough to tell others about it. Next time she has something bad happen to her tell her to reply to a freecycle ad and see how she likes it!

nametaken · 12/01/2009 12:48

your friend has way way too much time on her hands. Is there a local hospice or childrens hospital near you. If so, perhaps you could suggest your friend spend some of her free time volunteering there.

Pingping · 12/01/2009 12:51

LOL at Poshwellies.

Report her she for sure what a cow

mamatrio3 · 12/01/2009 13:15

Report her without flinching. Not a nice person.

WorzselMummage · 12/01/2009 13:27

She sounds like a sick bitch..
