To consider reporting friend to freecycle?

My friend makes a mockery of Freecycle for her own ammusement. She posts offers of stuff that she has no intentions of giving away, expensive stuff just to see how many replies she will get and what stories people will come up with to get it.

So far she's offered an Ipod nano, wii fit, a bin liner full of designer women's clothes and now she's just offered an xbox 360. She has no intention of giving any of this stuff away, she just likes to read the replies.

She gets stuff like "we were flooded and all of my daughters things got destroyed, we were not insured so all our money has had to go and re-building our lives and we've not been able to buy her anything since. Getting this xbox would make her entire year.

etc! most are obviously made up or exagurated but I can't help thinking some might be true and she's getting their hopes up for nothing.

She is a close friend and I feel guilty reporting her but I think she's being out of order.

Should I report her or just stay out of it?

Is she mentally ill?

You'll lose her as a friend if you report her.
And it'll be no great loss. What a horrible person she is. Freecycle does not need timewasters like her!
Please report her now!

pamelat · 12/01/2009 19:44

report her.

J2O · 12/01/2009 19:46

Nasty cow, how could she possibly get any enjoyment out if it?

NotPlayingAnyMore · 12/01/2009 19:48

Report her, dump her. Any order you like.

Does she not have anything better to do?

What a waste of time!

CrushWithEyeliner · 13/01/2009 18:29

Nasty piece of work

Agree with Nametaken.

However, I run a Freecycle site and it's very very difficult to police this kind of thing. I get very few complaints in my area, but the ones I do get usually have a "back story" about two friends falling out (I'm not saying this is the case with you at all).
I suppose your local moderator (hope it isn't me!) could send her an email asking politely who she gifted the last few "taken" items to (chances are that she'll either not reply and stop using it or give member IDs, at least one or two of which will probably be those of people known to the mod)_ telling her that your suggestion has been made, and pointing out that moderators are unpaid volunteers whose time is valuable.

Generally, I take the view that we're forum moderators, not priests, so I don't delve into the morality thing - but the time wasting thing is definitely on the moderator's territory and is something I'd be happy to address!
