newgirl · 09/01/2009 19:52

that is rubbish! name and shame the pub

wotulookinat · 09/01/2009 20:03

How do you know it was tinned Heinz?

Umlellala · 09/01/2009 20:04

oh, 2yo dd wanted soup today in the pub, but I told her it wouldn't be the delicious heinz handmade tomato soup she is used to. So she had chips instead.

lottiejenkins · 09/01/2009 20:10

I went out once with work and ended up eating sweet and sour pork made with Uncle Bens Sauce!! !!

kettlechip · 09/01/2009 20:13

That's shameful. Reminds me of the Royle Family Xmas special where Denise served cup a soups for starter..

wotulookinat · 09/01/2009 20:18

But how did you know it was Uncle Bens?
I saw the Royle Family - classy!

lottiejenkins · 09/01/2009 20:20

I could tell it was UB's as i have cooked it before at home and it was excactly the same flavour. Absolutely no doubt it was UB's.

wotulookinat · 09/01/2009 20:21

Ah, but you have no proof. (can you tell that I'm bored?)

lottiejenkins · 09/01/2009 20:24

Yup.............

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 09/01/2009 20:30

DH had soup of the day last week. £2.50 in a cafe. He swears to god it was a chicken cupasoup. Served in a bowl with croutons and a crap bread roll.

NomDePlume · 09/01/2009 20:32

I doubt it was even heinz. It was probably from a HUGE carton of powdered catering brand soup.

lottiejenkins · 09/01/2009 20:36

Wait for it wait for it..........How do you know it was cupasoup!!!

GrimmaTheNome · 09/01/2009 20:38

If it said anything about it being homemade then def complain.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 09/01/2009 20:45

I don't know how he knew it was cupasoup. But I do know he virtually lived off them in his student days and i'd trust him to recognise it (sad, I know...)

And there were two choices. Tomato or cream of chicken.

lottiejenkins · 09/01/2009 20:47

Sorry i was being faecitious(sp) after the original how do you know posts!!

PortBlacksandResident · 09/01/2009 20:49

DH and i went to a pseudo posh and expensive restaurant on our hols years ago. DH is Mr Angel Delight and they served him strawberry mousse YUP! Angel Delight!

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 09/01/2009 20:50

Sorry, I have no sense of humour. Honest!

ScottishMummy · 09/01/2009 20:57

went to a £££ gastropub were the floridly described fluffy maris piper was badly made smash

lumpy smash congealed lumps in middle

wotulookinat · 09/01/2009 23:16

Sorry to upset you Lottie, but I still want to know how the OP knew it was tinned Heinz soup.

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 09/01/2009 23:20

I once spent the best part of 24 hours making Heston Blumenthal's cream of tomoato soup.

It turned out precisely the same as Heinz, and equally delish.

I am being facietous. Sorry

Lauriefairycake · 09/01/2009 23:22

is there anyone who couldn't tell what Heinz tomato soup tastes like

tis very distinctive and if you have tastebuds and eat it a fair bit you will easily recognise it.

woozywotzy · 09/01/2009 23:23

I know what you mean.
I asked for black tea when I was out one day and was charged £1.80.

Now that would be enough for 80 PGtips .

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 09/01/2009 23:28

I obviously didn't have children & needed to get out more when I did the Heston B soup thing .

Dear me.

CocoaCloset · 09/01/2009 23:29

My friend caused a scene in a cafe for the same reason. The menu offered homemade soup which turned out to be Heinz so she would only give them the cost of the tin.

I went to Toyk in Solihull a while back and ordered soup, to be told half an hour later that the chef couldn't find it!

ScottishMummy · 09/01/2009 23:39

worked in poncy gaff were they purported to sell "home made" soup (baxters carton soup) with some fresh herbs sprinkled over

no one noticed
man asked for mammy's recipe -nae kidding
