Specially for this time of year, when everyone is a little pished!!

Sure i know i can preview the post first, but really does anyone bother??? Or is just me being a lazy cow

OP posts:
purepurple · 01/01/2009 17:33

hurrah for edit buttons

AMumInScotland · 01/01/2009 17:38

But edit can give you a totally weird effect - like someone comments on what you've said, but then what you've said has changed so their comment makes no sense. So then they want to edit their response, but someone else has already cmmented on it.... weird time travel paradox situation!

BouncingTurtle · 01/01/2009 17:43

No I know I should preview first but I always forget!

PaulaatMummyKnowsBest · 01/01/2009 17:49

i would love an edit button

purepurple · 01/01/2009 17:53

I've seen it before on other forums, the edit button is active foe a certain amount of time after you post. If you do edit there will be a message at the bottom saying something like "edited at blah blah" time
as for making conversations look weird, adds to the fun!

I would like an edit and a quote function.

onager · 01/01/2009 18:19

Edit allowed for the next 30 minutes would do. Just enough time for me to reread what I said and realise how it came out.

As for quotes I just put them in >>>I would like an edit and a quote function

purepurple · 01/01/2009 18:19

I wanna quote function too!!!!!!!!!!!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/01/2009 18:30

quote button yes, make things MUCH easier

but no to edit

or people change what they wrote if other peoples opinions are not what they expect

you write what you feel

Lotster · 01/01/2009 18:32

I would like a "ten strikes and you're out of here" button we can all press for irritating people who take over threads with their own arguements!

Edit would be ok if you could just do it until someone else posted after you, otherwise you could change something they'd responded to and make them look silly.

also would like an instant message button as well - know we have cat, but not all members have cat, plus it is not instant

someone at mn hq needs to send them your email, and the times i have catted someone it takes a few days sometimes to sort out

Ashantai · 02/01/2009 00:32

Totally agree with the quote button too! So much easier to argue with people when you can quote their nonsense back to them

Come on MN, drag yourself into the noughties!

OP posts:
MerryMadMarg · 02/01/2009 09:04

I agree with the edit function, even if it's just to add something to the end of the post which is clearly visible. I also want a function that shows me which posts have been read on the thread!

Threadworm · 02/01/2009 09:07

No no to edit button. I'd hate to be in a conversation where there is no fixed past.

Threadworm · 02/01/2009 09:08

We ought to have as little functionality as possible. Each new function would just be extra 'screen noise' that would make an internet exchange less and less like normal conversation.

Simplysally · 02/01/2009 09:11

You could have a feature where unless someone quotes you, you can edit what you`ve said for typos or TMI on further reflection (not the whole context of the conversation or people would be scared to comment). If they quote you then you have to live with it.

MrsSeanBean · 02/01/2009 09:59

Edit for limited time eg. couple of minutes would be useful for genuine mistakes.

As for a quote button, doesn't that usually quote the whole of the post in question? That always looks really cumbersome I think, and you don't always necessarily want to quote everything. What's wrong with cut & paste - then you can just 'quote' the portion you want to?

Tee2072 · 02/01/2009 10:02

How about an edit function that makes you put into the post why you edited? And it wouldn't let you edit unless you explained? Because that would probably stop people from editing because someone disagreed, but would let you edit for a typo!

AMumInScotland · 02/01/2009 12:14

Actually, I think it would be good if something could be added to the OP, but with a clear date and time stamp - so on long threads people who jump in and say "I only read the OP and I think...." would realise that the OP changed her opinion 4 pages back and has had to keep saying so to all the people who can't be bothered reading the whole thread!

pagwatch · 02/01/2009 12:20

Oh some good ideas...
I would like a facility that instantly makes my posts more interesting.
And one that causes green slime to instantly shoot in projectile manner all over anyone who posts
" i am not racist but..."
" it is just PC to say x"
" people on benefits are [insert judgemental comments of choice]
" people who have kids at private school are [insert judgemental comment of choice]
" Alexander is talented"
and
"pagwatch is a dimwit"

Then it would be perfect.

Oh and a small cheer to go up after you click on any of my posts - " hoorah - well said pag" etc etc

Then it would be perfect

MarshaBrady · 02/01/2009 12:22

No thanks for an edit button. Conversations would constantly be in freefall with no fixed point of reference.

See The Butterfly Effect -with ashton kutcher, that's this place with the edit button that is.

pagwatch · 02/01/2009 12:23

fooking hell Marsha. You post , edit and wake up with no arms !

MarshaBrady · 02/01/2009 12:25

LOL you made me larf
