he can't see why I am upset.... the risk is just too much to take imo. Iam really pissed off as he is so flippant about it.

OP posts:
aGalChangedHerName · 24/12/2008 18:12

Better than driving imo. I have cysled on thet amount of booze and nop harm done.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 24/12/2008 18:15

I understand you are concerned for his safety but this is realy OK

slackrunner · 24/12/2008 18:15

Ican understandf why you're upset - a friend of a friend died last week cycling on a busy road (sober). Massive risk to himself and others IMO.

jooseyfruit · 24/12/2008 18:25

my ex-dp did the same thing.
after 5-6 pints, cycled home, went to fast over a speed bump, tried to do a wheely and fell off and broke his shoulder.

twat.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 24/12/2008 18:30

Isn't it illegal? You can still be over the drink drive limit and get done even if on a cycle? I have a feeling that you would still get points on your drivers licence as well.

expatinscotland · 24/12/2008 18:32

my ex cycled whilst stoned, went arse over teakettle over the handlebars, and wound up with bone chips from his pelvis floating around his hip.

jooseyfruit · 24/12/2008 18:33

it's partly why my ex is my ex!

MaryInLabour · 24/12/2008 18:35

Yes, you can lose your licence for being drunk in charge of a bike, just as much as you can a car. Doesn't he realise that?

He's a dick and yes, he'd have been done if caught. He could have caused a serious accident.

stitch · 24/12/2008 19:03

i think cycling aftrer drinking, is worse than driving after drinking.

chequersandroastedchestnuts · 24/12/2008 19:04

Why stitch?

Hulababy · 24/12/2008 19:04

It really is not ok and suprised some people think it is. It is illegal to be drunk and riding a bike, just as it is to be drunk and driving a car. A drunk cyclist could cause a lot of tragic and fatal incidents, esp on busy roads.

aGalChangedHerName · 24/12/2008 19:07

Would he have been drunk after 3 pints?

pombear · 24/12/2008 19:09

My dad returned home many years ago after a very alcoholic Christmas eve. It has now become a legend...thank goodness he came back safe, but he has since lost the two good friends he spent that eve with, one to an accident, and one to cancer. He remembers that night too, as much as we did. It wasn't an easy night, but he came back safe. And happy. I'm glad he enjoyed it. Yes, have it out with him in a few weeks' time, do the 'safety' talk, but he's home safe now (I assume) and give thanks for that, let it be - we all, ALL, make mistakes!!

stitch · 24/12/2008 19:17

becaus i think that as a cyclist, you can hurt more people than youwould in a car. all the same problems apply with impairment of judgement etc to cycing as they do to driving,
maybe i am wrong, andit is just my perception, but i can imagine people thinking it is ok to cycle, who would never in a gazillion years get beh

Hulababy · 24/12/2008 19:19

Not drunk but certainly not have his full perceptions about him, and therefore a danger on the roads.

He could kill someone with such careless actions.

sunnygirl1412 · 24/12/2008 19:21

The only reason he's being blase about it now is that he got home unscathed. As others have pointed out, he could have been badly hurt or worse - and he should have a long hard think about what that would have done to his family and to the other driver involved. But he's not going to do this thinking now, when he's got the beer goggles on.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 24/12/2008 19:30

3 pints is certainly enough to be over the drink drive limit and that limit is set for a reason.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 24/12/2008 19:35

oh come on ladies, lighten up eh?

unless the guy is 6 stone wet through he is not going to be pissed after 3 pints. After 6 pints, maybe.

and riding a cycle after 3 pints is worse than driving a car ? Nope.

Its xmas, the bloke had a couple of pints, get over it

MaryInLabour · 24/12/2008 19:41

3 pints is over the limit. If he'd fallen in front of a bus, he'd have ruined a lot of Christmases

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 24/12/2008 19:47

fall in front of a bus after 3 pints ?

nope

Fivesetsofschoolfees · 24/12/2008 19:53

Is DH insured?

TheWizardofOz · 24/12/2008 19:54

I think three pints is hardly off his head.
Silly but not the end of the world.

sunnygirl1412 · 24/12/2008 21:45

Three pints is probably not that much - but it's been shown that alchohol does impair your judgement and you might not even be aware that you've been affected at all.

I watched an experiment where people in a driving simulator had to press a button every time they saw a potential hazard ahead either on the road or pavement. This test was repeated after 1 unit of alchohol, after 2 units etc etc. The person who was filmed doing this was an average sized bloke - not six stones wringing wet - and even after only 2 or 3 units, his judgement and observation was affected.

And it only takes one silly error to cause an accident. Or it might just mean that he wasn't sufficiently on the ball to get out of the way of some other fuckwitted lunatic bloke who thought his mates should lighten up who's had a few and then got in his car.
