oldraver · 07/12/2008 23:58

OOh I regualarily buy 12 cartons of Soya milk online (which doesn't last long)..... going to Asda tomorrow so will see if I get rationed

I mean I live over 20 miles from the nearest 'big' shops so tend to buy non perishable sonce a month, and I dont think I'm unusual in doing that

NotanOtter · 08/12/2008 00:03

samsonara

i did state the shelves were FULL

the VALUE products that i had to break my back for were out of stock but i dont think they cared about them

I don't think you're being unreasonable - everything in perspective here! And I too love the wallpaper idea and am going to pinch it

TLESinChristmasStockings · 08/12/2008 00:08

I don't think yabu either and am also pinching the wallpaper idea for ds's room....without the flowers and hearts lol x

samsonara · 08/12/2008 00:12

Having a full shelf doesn't mean there is stock waiting to replenish it, that's what I meant, sorry should have stated that , I have had that experience often where go in one day, think I'll get it next day, all gone and nothing till order is in. They don't order every product to keep shelves fully stocked, only the ones which sell constantly.

Pan · 08/12/2008 00:14

Tesco stores are going up everywhere!

that thing people say about never being being more than 30 feet away from a rat if you are outside? Same thing will be true of tescos soon.

samsonara · 08/12/2008 00:15

I know the feeling about the value stuff, it's often out of stock because they only have a certain number per X number of similar products, like the value mince pies and fairy cakes are nearly always gone and that is annoying as I think they taste better.

malovitt · 08/12/2008 00:25

In our local Sainsbury's, the checkout staff used to write BOUGHT FROM SAINSBURY'S in marker pen over items that they suspected were being bulk-bought for retailers to sell on.

They, quite rightly, got into a bit of trouble for it when it was noted they were only doing it to Asian-looking customers, and had to stop.

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 08/12/2008 00:25

a little while ago I posted here on MN about a guy in Morrison that bought a trolley full of fruit shoots - he totally cleared the shelves..........and they let him too

DingDongMerrilyOnEI · 08/12/2008 01:42

how odd!! maybe next time you should take all 6 of your children with you and see what they say to you about it then!!
what if you wanted to buy loose bananas?? if you put 9 in the little bag would they make you take one out?? you can understand if it was something that could be sold on in a shop like name branded or something but if it was own brand malties you would hardly be selling them in your imaginary shop!!
i would write to the email address posted on here earlier!! (im a moany letter writer)
xx ei xx

psychohohohoho · 08/12/2008 08:04

it did used to be policy when I worked there (gave up about 3yrs back), to stop other traders bulk buying special purchases etc.

It was even on the till that we could not type n more than 10 multiples of anything!

I found a way around it tho when I had a teacher almost in tears on me when she was trying to buy 30 of something for her class one year for xmas presents................I just thought it was a shame to judge the many on what was maybe 1% of people it was actually trying to prevent (IYGWIM).

littleducks · 08/12/2008 08:22

well with that trolley they obviously thought you were running a b&b!!

saltire · 08/12/2008 08:23

I've boycotted Tesco for teh best part of a year now, since the shortbread incident.
I would have asked them to show me the signs!

madetobeamum · 08/12/2008 08:26

I would have just stuck one of those plastic dividers in the middle and said 'there you go, two seperate sales'.

juuule · 08/12/2008 08:31

NotAnOtter - Just looking at your list. How long will that lot last and where do you store it when you get home?

MmeHereWeGoAWassailLindt · 08/12/2008 08:45

Next time take ALL 6 kids, let them run riot. Tell the DC that the child who scares off most shoppers gets a fruit shoot and a Greggs sausage roll for lunch.

They won't be able to ring up your shopping fast enough. And they won't be counting the Malties either.

BONKERZ · 08/12/2008 08:46

my argument with these limts is it usually says PER CUSTOMER so if me and my husband and 2 children are shopping surely that means there are 4 customers??

scaryteacher · 08/12/2008 08:47

I buy 24 bottles of squash at a time, but in my defence I live in Belgium, and can't get decent hi-juice over here in flavours ds likes. Luckily, most of the checkout staff at the Tescos I go to when back in the UK, are my ex pupils, and they don't bat an eyelid!

Gorionine · 08/12/2008 08:52

Change shop NotanOtter. We are a family of 6 and we do bulk monthly shopping as well, so I just have to get Fresh stuff from down the road when I need it.

We shop at Morrissons an the thing we take in the biggest Qtty is milk (30 long life litters) it has never been an issue with them.
We just once had a cashier looking at us very surprised "Is that your weekly shopping" (I am a bit overweight but...) To wich I replied "It is monthly and what is it to you?".

I do not think it is the place of the cashier to comment on your shopping and the stupid number of goods limit really baffles me,as they do not know your circomstances. What if you are buying for a school event or if like a lot uf us you have a large family, It is not their business, as long as you pay for it!

msbossy · 08/12/2008 09:00

LOL at the thought of fitting 8 boxes of malties, museli, bran flakes and porridge oats etc into the car with 6 kids AND then going to IKEA. I hope you weren't planning to buy anything bigger than xmas baubles!

nannynick · 08/12/2008 09:04

So I've never seen a sign at the front of a Tesco store stating their Terms and Conditions - in particular a huge sign stating that you can't buy more than 8 of a particular item.

So, can't get 8 Tomatoes
Can't get 8 Oranges
Can't buy more than 8 Walnuts

Ah... no wonder the bulk discounters are getting more trade, they would probably have sold you an entire pallet!

nannynick · 08/12/2008 09:05

Of course, I meant 9 Tomatoes etc... as by all accounts Tesco would let you get 8, but not 9.

edam · 08/12/2008 09:06

Oh, my heart bleeds for these poor supermarkets who have to re-stack the shelves because of these inconsiderate customers who dare to, you know, buy stuff. Clearly the business would be a lot simpler if it weren't for all these pesky customers.

I had endless trouble with supermarkets when I was a magazine editor - they really don't like mags and newspapers because they have to restack the shelves more often than with other goods. Well, don't bloody sell them then! They are driving independent newsagents out of business and then get all arsey about selling mags. Ridiculous.

MrsSeanBean · 08/12/2008 09:10

It's easy to get around these silly rules (if you can be arsed/ have time/ no DCs with you etc). Just go round again and use another checkout.

duchesse · 08/12/2008 09:22

Tesco sucks. End of.

They are single-handedly wrecking the country and any notion of civility in service standards. I hate them.
