everytime i see that book

I quite like DF, but I didn't like it when she was slating skinny women (I'm overweight) - when some women are naturally skinny and struggle as much with how they look than everyone else.

Also, when she adopted Billie, didn't she brag about how she had to lose weight to be able to adopt her but would just put it all back on again afterwards? Despicable attitude if that's true - but might be hearsay.

I still quite like her, though.

Just unbearably smug and not at all funny.

I was given the book for Christmas and loved it - I think DF came across as a really nice person.

Ive not read the book but you can punch her lights out anyway if shes still with Lenny Henry - Iv'e always fancied him!

Not sure about despicable MsG (although I guess she was ignoring the advice about potentially reducing her lifespan, which isn't great when you are adopting) stupid though. Being overweight is not a good idea, regardless of how you feel about societies attitudes, and whether they should be challenged.

I don't like the smugness either. That might be comic front, but in the end we're all only objecting to her comic front, not knowing her in RL etc.

I also think that she's too large at the moment to be in any way joking about it. She's a very small lady and to be that size must be putting a strain on her organs. She was better a few years ago. We wouldn't find it amusing if a skeletal anorexic woman was joking about starving herself would we?

I quite like Vicar of Dibley even though I know it's not funny. It's like mashed potato television, bland and comforting and English.

Lenny Henry is about as funny as your first postnatal poo. He seemed to cop on that as a black man and in the minority on t'telly he was in the unique position of being able to make racist jokes. So he did, mostly bad West Indian Mamma impressions.

I bet he does cheat though. In fact, does anyone remember his wife on Chef? I always was convinced her was boffing her.

I liked his wife on Chef (the character, that is). Haven't seen him for years. Don't really care about his (or her) character and private life. But I would actively avoid watching anything with DF in it. I can't think of anything she has made that I didn't find cringeworthy (even those Comic Strip Presents.. that dh thinks are hilarious, I just found them crude and obvious).

I agree with imaginaryfriend I don't much like Johnny Vegas doing fat jokes either, or that general trend of because I am from (whatever group of culture) I can tell jokes about it, and they are automatically funny.

I think DF is great, and I loved the book. Had tears in my eyes when she was describing the IVF and Miscarriages..... all taking place under the radar of the tabloids. Would love to know who the best friend is....does anybody know?

Love the wedding photo with the 2 'Frenchies' on a higher step than the 2 'Henrys'.....and still a foot shorter!

Also liked the bit where she had a go at the commentator at the Athletics meeting (for dismissing Bills success).

I had tears in my eyes when reading the bits to her dad, about missing her wedding and how he ahd grandhcildren he would never see (or words to that effect). It left an impression on me, becasue I can relate to it, my dad died when I was 16.
I did laugh when she said she ahd a crush on Rowan Atkinson when they were younger. I mean FGS!

Ria thaT IS SO TRUE. People like LH and DF were hugely significant in my decision to stop watching tv altogether a few years back. Any time spent on these two appalling individuals is time wasted.

I think she always comes across as a really nice person. I don't "get" French and Saunders any longer - I liked them a few years ago when they were doing the series of shows with the Raw Sex group (Roland Rivron was hilarious). I don't really like their newer stuff though. I LOVE The Vicar of Dibley - comfortingly English and hilarious.

Don't think she comes across as smug at all. And I think the cover photo of the book just shows her smiling - don't suppose she had a total say in the cover anyway - bet there were a series of photos and her publicist (or whoever )said "we want to go with this one" and she had to nod and agree.

Thought she came across well in the book.

She used to be funny.

She is dangerously obese, it is not beautiful it is very unhealthy. I can't for the life of me see how being that overweight can be beautiful hmm]

She is beautiful, just because she is overweight doesn't make her not beautiful. She has a gorgeous face IMO whatever else you think of her.

Dawny Roma French is now asking ( post mortem) to be embalmed and put on display on Tamar bridge - I would willingly do that procedure for her now - but she’d have to take her head out if her arse first 🙄

Hardly the whole cover, is it? She’s gritting her teeth, I do that in fake posed photo, it shows your teeth which is meant to be attractive.
