OP posts:
spottyoldzebra · 04/12/2008 21:25

was that in your 1st add?

Onlymeandmydog · 04/12/2008 21:29

oh um. sort of? That was a mistake wasn't it? I just thought it would be fun, in a quirky way.

OP posts:
spottyoldzebra · 04/12/2008 21:30

TheLadyEvenstar · 04/12/2008 21:38

Only, I wasn't laughing at you hun!!

Try being a bit more elaborate...i dunno...

Good looking dog lover seeks ???? I enjoy nights out at the cinema and dining out...If you fancy a night out contact me but don't forget my favourite thing some nuts

TheLadyEvenstar · 04/12/2008 21:39

and thats only 29 words hee hee

Onlymeandmydog · 04/12/2008 21:41

Oh that's better than mine! Though I think I may have given you the wrong impression about peanuts!!!

OP posts:
Onlymeandmydog · 04/12/2008 21:42

OK I am going to share mine...... Hang on I need to copy it from word!

OP posts:
Boco · 04/12/2008 21:42

I think that saying 'don't forget your nuts' sends out maybe the wrong message? Or maybe not.

BroccoliSpears · 04/12/2008 21:42

Peanuts the comic or peanuts the legume?

Boco · 04/12/2008 21:43

By peanuts, do you actually mean peanuts? Not the snoopy cartoon strip? Salted or dry roasted or monkey? Maybe elaborate on the nuts?

TheLadyEvenstar · 04/12/2008 21:45

ok I was being a bit silly with the nut ccomment was just explaining how you can have fun in an ad...

Onlymeandmydog · 04/12/2008 21:56

oh dear yes, I see how I worded that badly, I do like nuts but I meant the one unrelated to leg umes!!

OP posts:
BroccoliSpears · 04/12/2008 21:57

I am no expert, but surely a good rule of thumb is the fewer references to nuts in an add the better. The misunderstandings could be a little unfortunate.

Onlymeandmydog · 04/12/2008 21:57

Okay found ad....

Looking for fun guy with SOH for going out and having a great time playing with my baby shih-tzu. I can be your Lucy if you'll be my Charlie Brown?

OP posts:
snigger · 04/12/2008 22:01

I did a thread on personal ads last week wondering how you would word your own ad!

Look on the London Review of Books website - they have the best personals ever. They're all mad, but better than the bland ones

BroccoliSpears · 04/12/2008 22:01

I think that's a good ad.

Boco · 04/12/2008 22:09

Well I for one am relieved it's the cartoon and not the legume. A passing interest in the snack kind is fine, but not to include it in any kind of ad. I like your ad, I'm surprised you haven't had any response yet. Wasn't Lucy very bossy though? And a bit scary? And maybe people don't know what a baby shih-tzu is or what playing with it might involve.

Onlymeandmydog · 04/12/2008 22:13

oh yes good point. I guess not everyone has thought deeply about the relationship between Lucy and Charlie Brown. I supposed on the surface she does seem a bit, forceful. do you think I should somehow hint at their undercurrent of affection and tenderness? Although that might exceed the 30 words.

OP posts:
Boco · 04/12/2008 22:24

Well you know you are kind of saying that you're looking for a meeker man to dominate and boss about but with an affectionate undercurrent, - and there may have been Charlie Brown types who read it but were too shy to respond. So yes, maybe you need to put in a bit about not being too scary. Although you put in an invitation to play wiht your shit'zhu. I'm not sure if that's reassuring or not. Some people get really freaked out by those small dogs.
