To report the council worker?

SweetChildOMine · 04/12/2008 12:56

I've just had a horrible morning with a council worker who came to fix our fire.

First he trod into the house with sopping wet clothes and left muddy footprints all over the carpet. I let that go as the weather is terrible and he looked freezing.

However a younger man followed him in, looked like a trainee or something and they were ffing and blinding to each other quite loudly (I had no kids in the house thankfully) and began talking quite crudely about women etc.

Later one the main man karate kicked my front door to which they both burst out laughing at the footprint on the door and then before he left he asked me if I had a bin to put some sticky tape stuff in. I held out my hand and said I'd get rid of it for him and he said "hang on, what about this" and he then drop kicked it into my christmas tree which knocked the star off the top that DD had bought herself. They were creased up laughing and when they went down the garden path the younger one said "she is so going tp report you mate" and the older one laughed and said "fuck em, they don't give a shit usually if they're from up here (our estate)".

I want to report them but I'm wondering if there is any truth in what he said, do they make a habbit of acting like this?? I could imagine an elderly woman to have been quite frightened by it.

Its unacceptable in everyway.

SexOnFire · 04/12/2008 12:58

YANBU, that behaviour is totally disrespectful and unacceptable. Report them.

deckthegirlandboywithholly · 04/12/2008 12:59

YANBU, this is horrible.

Ring the council NOW.

Poor you.

stoppinattwo · 04/12/2008 12:59

That makes my bin complaint seem so insignificant

I would complaing about them completely!!!! yasnbu

SweetChildOMine · 04/12/2008 12:59

What worries me more is if the older one is supposed to be training the younger one (who only looked about 17) what on earth is he teaching him about how to behave in people's homes?

I think once they had karate kicked my door i would have put them out and phoned whoever was in charge of them immediately, do not let that sort of behaviour go, imagine it was a frail old woman they were takinghthe piss out off.

VoluptuaGoodshag · 04/12/2008 13:01

Oh you must. Absolutely report them. That's utterly disgraceful behaviour.

You may think that nothing would be done but I reported a ticket office worker at the railway station and got a very nice reply from head office stating that his behaviour was not acceptable and that he had been reprimanded in no uncertain terms. Made me feel like I'd made a difference.

chequersandroastedchestnuts · 04/12/2008 13:02

That is a real violation of your home. Sorry for you

beanieb · 04/12/2008 13:03

about the making crude comments about women... when I posted on here about builders doing the same I was told by many people that I was totally unreasonable to have reported them to the considerate construction scheme they had advertised on their worksite, so don't be surprised if a whole load of women storm into this thread and tell you it's ok for them to be crude about women and you should just get over it not something I agree with but a lot of women on here do

beanieb · 04/12/2008 13:05

oh - and the reason people gave was that I was a prude, I wasn't able to take it all in jest and I was possibly putting builders out of work

not that I agree with any of this either but be warned!

whyme2 · 04/12/2008 13:06

It sounds awful what happened, you must report them asap.

littleducks · 04/12/2008 13:08

you can report him, make sure you explain his last comment

sadly he prob is right

LilyMayPlumpington · 04/12/2008 13:08

That is so upsetting! How awful that they can behave that way

Please do complain. I am sorry that you had to put up with their vile attitudes

LilyMayPlumpington · 04/12/2008 13:09

And I disagree that the complaint will be disregarded. Be sure to put it in writing so that it has to be treated as a formal complaint by the council

bonnycat · 04/12/2008 13:10

If not then god yes, report them id be livid!

IllegallyBrunette · 04/12/2008 13:10

I'd have been really unerved to have strangers in my home behaving like that.

LilyMayPlumpington · 04/12/2008 13:11

Perhaps I am OTT, but I would be so incensed (am not good with calmness and serenity) that I would even consider writing to MP and local paper (awaits sardonic responses from others)

YANBU!!

Report them, I bloody well would.

mel1981 · 04/12/2008 13:22

OMG Def report them!! Doesnt matter where your from you & your home still deserve respect. They still have customer service policies that they have to stick to. I'd write a letter to council and depending on how far you want to go or the response you get then I sort of agree with lilymayplumpington- you dont deserve to be treated like that!

georgiemum · 04/12/2008 13:22

tossers

WingsofaTreefairy · 04/12/2008 13:24

I hope you are on the phone to them and makng a complaint.

leoleomakingalist · 04/12/2008 13:34

on your behalf.
Report them and follow everything Stewies mum said - everything.
How dare they! Also to say that it was okay to do it because a)your a council tenant and b) from 'up there'.. That behaviour was totally out of order in every single way.
2 men in your home is unnerving as it is.
Please complain.

leoleomakingalist · 04/12/2008 13:36

I just remembered something - the government has set targets for councils and how they treat thier tenants. Maybe you could include something along those lines in the letter.
Also if they are a company contracted by the council complain to them - I am sure they wouldn't want to lose thier contract.
Completely out of order.
Are you ok?
