I go through phases of actually hating the schoolrun and it makes me a really down in the dumps. I think it is all the politcs, having to talk to other parents even when you can't be arsed and the my child is better than your child etc etc.

AIBU to sometimes want to get a job just to avoid the schoolrun?

I have only just started school run but I agree its like groundhog day every day. We have a 25 minute walk every day there and back(out of choice) and we see the same cars , the same dog walkers, the same faces at the same time every day..I have another 6 years of this and I am bored already after one term!!

I think everyone takes it too seriously.

I hate the school run to my ds school due to one mum whose main aim in life seems to be to seek me and my ds out and piss me off. Getting down to my sons' level and demanding to know which 'sticker' he is on, is he 'friends' with her son today, when do they break up and go back etc in between being really loud and obnoxious and laughing about stupid stuff e.g. what I am wearing if she has an audience. It makes me really miserable and I wait in my car for as long as I can. Not easy with a 3yo who wants to get out and pick up her brother. In short it is an effing nightmare and I send dh as often as I can. So no I dont think it is unreasonable of you at all. By contrast the playgroup mums are okay. But then I think that is because I dont feel 'un-confident' around them iyswim (I am on the vino tonight it is Saturday)

Tip-Park as close to the school as you can and wait........when you see mums coming back having dropped their little angels in, Run, dragging your children behind you, deliver them safely give them a kiss and run back to your unlocked car......small talk avoided.

Sagacious - you sound like my kinda gal!! To be honest, the one thing I never worried about on the school run was whether my handbag was up to scratch - in fact, I usually left it at home, because then I couldn't be dragged into the cake shop on the way home!! evil

I'm with you, I only do it 2 days a week as I work p/t, but I hate it too.

Well I'm very lucky because mine go on a school bus which departs from the end of the drive, so we all pile out 2 minutes before it's due to arrive (or occasionally someone will bang on the door as it draws up and I'm still yelling at one of the children to get shoes on) We all know each other well (it's a small village) and there's never any tension, snideyness or back-biting.

I often sometimes go out in my pyjamas, but nobody cares and a few of us will still be chatting half an hour after the bus departed All very good fun.
