To not want to go out to dinner on a week night?

We get endless invitations to dinner parties on a week night. While we manage to fend many of them off, some people are so persistent that we end up having to accept. I don't want to go out at 8.15 pm, eat dinner between 9.30 and 11 pm and not get to bed until half past midnight on a week night when we have to get up for work/school at 7 am. It KILLS me, and the dinners are unbelievably tedious.

IIRC when pph moved out of London her and her h's rule was "No more wankers".

VictorianSqualor · 27/11/2008 11:03

lol yes.
Get pissed as a fart and make every social faux pas known to man.

morningpaper · 27/11/2008 11:04

good rule

I really think you need to play on your English eccentricity

it is the only way

themoon66 · 27/11/2008 11:04

Dunno about the fleece.... I would have thought a Kappa tracksuit might do the trick.

CountessDracula · 27/11/2008 11:05

I have another cunning plan
tell the you are a vegetarian
Then invitations will dry up quicker than you can say foie gras

VictorianSqualor · 27/11/2008 11:05

Would she not then be invited for shits and giggles
'Let's invite that mad english woman, she's good to laugh at'.

CountessDracula · 27/11/2008 11:06

Don't be silly VS
They are french
They don't do giggling

comma · 27/11/2008 11:07

I'm starting to wonder where the line between taking the piss and crass racism is... does racism apply to french people?

morningpaper · 27/11/2008 11:09

well it does if they are black

VictorianSqualor · 27/11/2008 11:10

French isn't a race is it?
It would be forrinism.

comma · 27/11/2008 11:11

or forrinisme

morningpaper · 27/11/2008 11:11

anyway you are allowed to be mean about french people because they are thin and glamorous and sexy

where we are fat and a bit minging

bozza · 27/11/2008 11:11

Well I will have to wear jeans obviously because anything any smarter would look seriously overdressed. But I do not own a fleece so will just be my winter coat that I usually wear to work anyway with jumper dress underneath and wedges that I have already got on and a quick trip into the ladies at half 5 to don this glam outfit.

Look on the bright side though Anna, it keeps the grocery bills down.

VictorianSqualor · 27/11/2008 11:12

You must buy a fleece.
Immediately.
An animal one.

law - I think racism is about hatred, not a flippant comment like 'haw- he haw'

comma · 27/11/2008 11:13

or "booof"

As the french say when shrugging gallicly.

laweaselmys · 27/11/2008 11:14

lol, okay then. As long as we are clear on that one.

laweaselmys · 27/11/2008 11:15

[I was taking the piss] Am from NZ still bear a grudge about the Rainbow Warrior.

claw3 · 27/11/2008 11:17

ooops sorry not used to seeing sense of humour on here!

Was just sitting here having a giggle at it all and thought a pc brigader had come to piss on the fire

CountessDracula · 27/11/2008 11:17

I think it is a shame you sound so french Anna

French peeps I know have confessed when drunk that they find English-accented french sexy and gorgeous and that most french do but generally would not admit it as it would be tantamount to treason to like anything English. But they do. Really.

VictorianSqualor · 27/11/2008 11:18

claw, mumsnet at it's finest is hilarious

bozza · 27/11/2008 11:20

Victoriansqualor you have obviously missed your true vocation as a stylist.

Anna8888 · 27/11/2008 11:32

"Look on the bright side though Anna, it keeps the grocery bills down."

Sadly, the reduction in grocery bills is more than made up for by the cost of the babysitter and the obligatory visit to the florists...
