To not want to go out to dinner on a week night?

We get endless invitations to dinner parties on a week night. While we manage to fend many of them off, some people are so persistent that we end up having to accept. I don't want to go out at 8.15 pm, eat dinner between 9.30 and 11 pm and not get to bed until half past midnight on a week night when we have to get up for work/school at 7 am. It KILLS me, and the dinners are unbelievably tedious.

ExBat · 27/11/2008 14:46

I have a mate who goes to a lot of ambassadors' parties.
No, sadly they don't.

ExBat · 27/11/2008 14:47

They do say Bof though.

Heathcliffscathy · 27/11/2008 14:47

wot no tray with them all piled up like a pyramid?

CountessDracula · 27/11/2008 14:47

well they must know shite ambassadors
All the ones I know virtually live on ferrero rocher (or those fake ones from m&s)

CountessDracula · 27/11/2008 14:47

they do soph
don't worry

Habbibu · 27/11/2008 14:47

I think flowers and chocolates are nice things to take. Chocolates partic. good if you're driving, as you then get to share in your own bounty.

I stopped taking wine after I took a bottle of Jacob's Creek (I was a student and v. poor) to dinner at the house of a woman who turned out to be a heeyuuuge wine buff. I bet she didn't even cook with it.

ExBat · 27/11/2008 14:47

No and I wasn't the first to ask apparently.

ExBat · 27/11/2008 14:48

I got a candle instead of fleurs the other day.
Much easier.

Habbibu · 27/11/2008 14:48

CD - totally misread your post, and imagined you were talking about ambassadors shitting ferero roche...

FabioTheLiterateCat · 27/11/2008 14:49

I think, sophable, that most posters were being sarcastically rude to Anna and highlighting the inherent issues underlying her posts, rather than meaning what they wrote.

I was, less directly, trying to suggest in my post that the phenomenon Anna described is specific to a small sector of Parisian society.

Not sure I appreciate being called a French hating git, thanks all the same .

I think Thursdays are ok, as a one off.

Also with children its not like we can get up any later at the weekend than in the week?
