Don't answer the door and stay in bed. She'll have to collect them herself.

fuzzywuzzy · 19/11/2008 14:50

tell the postman you cant take any post for her.

lovelysongbirdfliesaway · 19/11/2008 14:52

thing is, i feel mean as she is nice and the reason shes not there is because she is a dr working shifts in the hospital.

difficult one, can she not have it delivered to a work address instead? Best to keep good neighbourly relations if you can, you never know when you might need her to return a favour.

(had a brief worry that you might be my next door neighbour who signed for 6 massive boxes last week while we were away, then remembered she's late 70's and is probably not likely to be on MN..)

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 19/11/2008 14:54

Are postmen allowed to do that?

Surely they just post a card through so she can collect from the depot?

Pinkjenny · 19/11/2008 14:54

I'm a bit like this, my poor SAHM neighbour just rolls her eyes at me and laughs about my hideous shopping habits!

BitOfFun · 19/11/2008 14:55

This would drive me bonkers if I'd gone back to bed or was trying for a lie-in. I would put a discreet sign on the letterbox saying " no post for neighbours please", and take the batteries out of my doorbell.

My postman always takes stuff straight back to the depot. Actually, I suspect he never brings it in the first place, just a stack of little cards telling me to wait 4 hours and pick it up myself - but that's a whole other AIBU thread!

PhantomOfTheChocolateCakeAvena · 19/11/2008 14:56

She might be nice and all but you shouldn't be expeced to do this. It's above and beyond. Once or twice is fine though but she should ask you first, it's good manners. If you don't answer the door, they will leave a card and take them back. Then she'll have to collect them when she's not at work.

janeite · 19/11/2008 15:00

I think you're being a bit unreasonable tbh, unless the postman is coming at a totally ungodly hour; ours never comes before at least 8.30am. If she's nice and she's grateful, and you're there anyway, it's hardly a big deal when you consider what some people have to put up with in their neighbours.

lovelysongbirdfliesaway · 19/11/2008 15:01

i can't take the batteries out of the bell as its a wired to the mains bell
grr

just when she said she was doing all her xmas shopping online i thought
great

It's never occurred to me that my next door neighbour minds, tbh. Our postman usually comes around lunchtime. I have done all my Xmas shopping online too, and she has taken the majority of it in for me.

I wonder if she does mind...

Pinkjenny · 19/11/2008 15:02

Are you my next door neighbour??

PhantomOfTheChocolateCakeAvena · 19/11/2008 15:03

Buy her some chocolate pink. You don't know what time they are being delivered.

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 19/11/2008 15:04

But you said yourself she is a Dr working shifts at the hospital so probably rarely has the time to go proper shopping.

I take in parcels all the time for next door but our area is a bit like that I know if I am expecting a parcel and look out neighbours car is there can nip out etc. postie and delivery men around here know which neighbours to drop off to if we aren't in etc.

I don't mind I am in anyway.

Pinkjenny · 19/11/2008 15:04

Will do.

lemonstartree · 19/11/2008 15:05

You cow ! what time is it ?? 10.30 ?? YABVU; hope you never need a favour from her ??

PhantomOfTheChocolateCakeAvena · 19/11/2008 15:05

It is nice to be asked though.

lovelysongbirdfliesaway · 19/11/2008 15:09

lemon no need for that, thats really nasty.

i only asked if i was bu as i find it a bit irritating!

OP posts:
littlestar26 · 19/11/2008 15:09

if you have a problem with that tell her but i think YABU. it is not much effort is it?

lovelysongbirdfliesaway · 19/11/2008 15:12

well the problem is it wakes me up and dd.
and she hates the sound of the bell.

OP posts:
louii · 19/11/2008 15:12

My next door neighbours always take in parcels for me. I am very grateful.

littlestar26 · 19/11/2008 15:14

why dont you tell her what the problem is? surely shell understand...

louii · 19/11/2008 15:15

Just dont answer the door if it bothers you that much, you don't have to take the parcels in.

Its seems like its your doorbell thats the most annoying thing so why dont you just change it or disconnect it?

What time does your post come at, mines not till about 11ish.

babylovesmilk · 19/11/2008 15:18

I would have a word if you are botheres but it i s bit un-neighbourly. Why dont you get rid of the bell?

littlestar26 · 19/11/2008 15:23

so getting rid of the bell or disconecting it is a better idea than saying to your neighbour what the problem is ...dont get it
