to be sceptical that dp is "done" 3 mths post snip without the reassurance of a test to prove that to me?

I have a reason for asking
Of course
Tell me your post snip tales!
How long did it take?

Blondie79 · 18/11/2008 16:56

Well, I am currently 7 months pregnant with DC3 2 years after DH had the snip ( he didn't go and get tested to see it had worked).

Blondie79 · 18/11/2008 16:58

Oh and we are the 4th couple that we have heard of that this has happened to in our wider circle of friends and family.

doggiesayswoof · 18/11/2008 17:00

Why no test?

DH was done last month and we have the little pots to send back in March and April. They take two samples and we only get the all clear if they are both sperm-free

No way would I trust it without a test.

YANBU

doggiesayswoof · 18/11/2008 17:01

3 months is very soon. We were told 20/24 weeks before they even bother to test.

KatyMac · 18/11/2008 17:01

About 15 months for DH until he was clear

BalloonSlayer · 18/11/2008 17:02

Had snip in Jan and didn't get round to doing the tests until June (we were told to "flush the pipes through" 15-20 times before testing and we're not as young as we were ).

Got "no sperm seen" at end of July.

He was reluctant to produce the samples By Himself I was required to help. Needless to say, with my . . . ahem . . . assistance he was extremely enthusiastic.

perty · 18/11/2008 17:06

I have a friend whose hubby got tested and it hasn't worked. He's got to be done again.

doggiesayswoof · 18/11/2008 17:08

Wow Katy 15 months!!!

IwishIwasamermaid · 18/11/2008 17:10

My DP does snips, he says it takes a while until you get the all clear, most men need a few samples.

Depends how often you empty the stores I guess.

NorthernLurker · 18/11/2008 17:10

Ours was clear after 3 months. I think having gone through the procedure dh found the tests to be the least of his worries. There was no way he was coming near me till I'd seen the relevant piece of paper!

NorthernLurker · 18/11/2008 17:10

oh good grief - just read that back - NO pun intended honest!

doggiesayswoof · 18/11/2008 17:11

Upwind · 18/11/2008 17:12

at Northern Lurker

OP, YANBU and best of luck!

doggiesayswoof · 18/11/2008 17:13

C'mon Piffle, spill

(sorry for pun)

Are you being assured by dp that he is 'safe'?

Does he not want to do the samples?

PortBlacksandResident · 18/11/2008 17:15

How can he possibly know he's safe now?

Did he used to hear the little beggars cheering before??

KatyMac · 18/11/2008 17:17

I know

Poor dear was starting to think he needed to have it done again

apron · 18/11/2008 17:31

we were given literature at the time that shows that some spontaneously reverse - even after years and test to say its been successful

expatinscotland · 18/11/2008 17:53

another reason why i'm going for sterilisation myself. especially as in our case DH would have to travel a long distance to give a sample.

for me, it's done in a day.

nooka · 18/11/2008 18:04

Dh had two tests. No traveling involved I don't think, although the clinic was only down the road, so it wouldn't have been a big deal. He was clear on the second test, so three months I think. It was all very hassle free, and my only regret is that he didn't get it done a few years earlier.

Piffle · 18/11/2008 18:16

I've had ectopic and appendix plus am having breast reduction soon so dp decidedto do honorable thing.
Count g back we guess 20-22 emissions which given 3 of those 12 weeks I've had my period. 1 week he was too sore post op. 2 weeks I was in Oz and 1 week he was in India, I think he has handled himself a lot
Reason I ask is that last night a curious moment of lust ocvured and I thought he had put on the condom ( no idea why but I just assumed) and he had not
Today I have ovulation pains
So am toying with a number of scenarios in my head.
Sorry to be so erm blunt. I dislike giving out private info but really need help with this you see.
Bring a mum of 4 scares crapout of me basically!

Piffle · 18/11/2008 18:17

oh dp has sample pots etc but not scheduled to test til 1st week of decrmber
I have instructed him to do it pronto

OP posts:
wilbur · 18/11/2008 18:20

Dh had op in Feb, didn't get around to getting tested til Sept but was all clear and not a sperm in sight when he did.

doggiesayswoof · 18/11/2008 18:22

Ah.....

I am hugely pessimistic about such matters - I would be getting MAP if I was in your place.

IIRC we were told 50 emissions. Someone else has said 15-20 though so ????

Good luck.

wehaveallbeenthere · 18/11/2008 18:23

When I was in Okinawa the husband wanted to get snipped. Luckily they changed doctors because there were two other men (husband is a comparison shopper) that had the all clear and then had another child. Both of these men were upset and claiming that their wives were playing around because THEY couldn't have gotten them pregnant. (yes, same doctor) but the procedure wasn't done correctly. Instead of actually removing a section of the vas deferens the doctor had just snipped it. Both had healed back enough to carry the sperm. Your husbands won't stop producing sperm...it just won't be able to make it to the complete journey. I'm sure you ladies (or at least your husbands) have the little folders that show this to be true. So if you wish it they can have it reversed...just is more painful and a tougher procedure. They aren't sterile...just not able to deliver.

wehaveallbeenthere · 18/11/2008 18:26

Oh and being in the military, both wives challenged the husbands to take paternity tests but couldn't sue the military when it was proven their latest child was the product of the "snipped" husbands.
