to be sceptical that dp is "done" 3 mths post snip without the reassurance of a test to prove that to me?

I have a reason for asking
Of course
Tell me your post snip tales!
How long did it take?

MorocconOil · 18/11/2008 18:27

Piffle, I wouldn't take the risk and would have the MAP ASAP.

elsiepiddock · 18/11/2008 18:31

My dh had the snip in June, but hasn't sent his samples back!!

Am not pg though!

Maybe I should suggest he does!

wehaveallbeenthere · 18/11/2008 18:38

Something else you might consider. If your husband is used to wearing underwear that is loose instead of that which carries the testes closer to the body...the count may be "off" or false.
My husband used to wear the latter kind and thought to be "sterile" but his body heat was killing the sperm. When he started wearing the loose boxer kind his count went way up.
All it takes is one good sperm to make its way to the egg.
So if your husband isn't going to send in the cups then you can always collect your own samples and examine them under a microscope yourself. A childs scope on maximum magnification will make it plain enough.

wehaveallbeenthere · 18/11/2008 18:45

I apologize if my posts offend anyone. I am one of those people that has to be convinced of something by proof. After having heard about the two gents and their wives I did what I had to so I could be sure there were no mistakes.
Fault me but I would hate to have any of you have an unexpected baby when you trust that your husband and yourselves had done everything to prevent it only to find someone made a mistake reading a test or performing the operation.

mankyscotslass · 18/11/2008 18:50

It took 11 mths for DH to get the all clear...

Piffle · 18/11/2008 18:54

will talk to dp about MAP tonight.
He was more adamant than me about no more kids! Sokinda funny he is placing faith blindly in what the doctor said.
Doc did say no unprotected sex until all clear as men vary
Oh heavens above

OP posts:
FourArms · 18/11/2008 19:14

I would be considering the MAP if I was you.

nooka · 18/11/2008 19:18

Piffle I would pop down to the chemist and get the MAP now if you can. Better safe than sorry, and it works better taken earlier. It doesn't make you feel bad or anything, so it's not a big deal to take it. Have the chat afterwards!

nooka · 18/11/2008 19:19

wehaveallbeenthere I love the idea of you peering down the kid's microscope to check your dh's sperm! I've never thought of doing that

FromGirders · 18/11/2008 19:21

15 months til all clear here too - and not for want of trying!

BitOfFun · 18/11/2008 19:23

I know! I have visions of mumnetters across the land scraping some off the duvet and scurrying across the landing to the kids' room for a quick check

nooka · 18/11/2008 19:27

PMSL

elsiepiddock · 18/11/2008 19:35

When I was first going out with my dh we looked at some under a microscope!

Very interesting!

MorocconOil · 18/11/2008 19:48

Looking at sperm under the DC's microscope? You really need to get out more.

Piffle · 18/11/2008 20:17

I just said to DP...
You were prepared to wing it...
So am I!
Pmsl at his face

OP posts:
wehaveallbeenthere · 19/11/2008 02:29

Sorry mimizan, I am a woman on the edge. I will go the extra mile to make sure I CAN get out more...thus the child microscope self sperm checking adventure. Nothing convinces more than having proof (or the lack of it in this case) before your very eyes.

Piffle · 19/11/2008 06:27

if I got proof I might well maim and destroy.
We shall see.'am slightly shitting as dd at the wekend said out of blue ( while in the car) where will we put the new baby mummy?
I did double take and laughed it off.
Now am convinced she is prophetic or something.

OP posts:
sweetgrapes · 19/11/2008 07:19

omg.
I went down to the chemist in a similar situation. (Not the snip but irresponsible...).
At £25 a go, dh double checks everything now.

sweetgrapes · 19/11/2008 07:21

Btw, it works best within 6 hours, a bit less within 12 hours and so on... till about 2/3 days after which it is ineffective. (afaik)

aGalChangedHerName · 19/11/2008 07:23

We haven't had any tests. DH was of the wing it guys too.

I have to say neither of us would mind if i did get pg now. We both kind of felt like we made the decision to have it done too quickly after dd2 was born.

I think it has worked however,we have done it more in the last couple of years than we ever have lol

NorthernLurker · 19/11/2008 07:51

piffle - if you do want to take steps you may be better get a coil put in today. as I recall it is a more effective form of morning after contraception if you are near ovulating than just the MAP. Of course then you have a coil then which seems a bit of overkill if dh is all clear.

SexyDomesticatedDad · 19/11/2008 10:16

Had snip a year or two ago - the doctor kindly showed me the piece of 'spagehetti' he'd cut just to reassure that it would be very unlikely to grow back again . Whats the problem in providing a couple of samples?? Just drop them off discretely in a package.

Got all clear after the 2nd sample sent - can't remember how long maybe 4 months post op - no worries now for either of us .

wehaveallbeenthere · 19/11/2008 12:27

SDD, I would hope it worked that way for everyone that undertakes that route. Unfortunately, for the two men in the military (and their wives) it did not. Not the most common outcome but to them was very important.

SexyDomesticatedDad · 19/11/2008 12:40

Exactly why the surgeon told me he was taking out an extra long section (nice having a chat with your surgeon as he tugs it about) - the guy he dealt with before was going for a 2nd go - it can happen but its fairly rare but consequences can be a - better to have a few checks early on than risk it. Just goes to show that the body is designed to get all back working again.

Piffle · 19/11/2008 14:13

aha but DP had the laser one where they essentially fry/burn the tube in two places
He took 4 x the amount of anaesthetic to numb tubes. Thick tubes as it were, but of course DP dines out on this as if some total vindication of his superior manliness/virility etc
I would be ok with no4 if I had not booked breast reduction op for 3 mths time, suffered chronic post natal SPD and basically be a little bit ready to stop.
DP however thinks another would flatten us in many ways.
It would be shock/fright but not insurmountable.
I think?
But am sure it will not happen as took 3 yrs to have ds2 I only have one tube and just think it would not happen. < tempts fate somewhat>
