so i can watch some tv? i did not know this about sky plus but apparently it prohibits you from watching something different from being recorded. how ridiculous. i am stuck here til 11pm (unpaid this is a favour to a friend). i just want to watch some tv. am i being unreasonable to cancel one of the channels being recorded? parents are at the cinema so cant contact them unless an emergency. what would you do? i will resent sitting here un tv'd!! i would be mortified if this happened to someone who was babysitting in my house!

watch tv online?

Hulababy · 13/11/2008 21:06

I thought the point with Sky Plus was that you could record one channel and watch another channel instead.

Or is it because they are recording two things at the same time?

nowwearefour · 13/11/2008 21:07

they are recording 2 things at the same time. i would only stop one of them! i am slightly long sighted so find it v uncomfortable looking at laptop screen for any length of timen(hence mumsnetting and watching tv!!)

yabu

ByTheSea · 13/11/2008 21:09

Both programmes can't possibly last til 11. What time are they due to end? Does one of them exist on a +1 hour channel where you could reset the recording? Do they have any DVDs you could watch?

HeinzSight · 13/11/2008 21:09

Oh bum, agree with trying to watch some tv online. Or have they got any good DVDs?

mumto2andnomore · 13/11/2008 21:09

If they are recording 2 things it wont let you watch something else. I would cancel one like you I would be gutted if I did this to my babysitter by mistake. Cancel the one thats most likely to be repeated on More 4 or whatever.

fartmeistergeneral · 13/11/2008 21:09

I would never stop recording something if I was in your position. I wouldn't even consider it! It's not your house!

Sherida · 13/11/2008 21:09

While they're recording 2 things at once, you can only watch something already recorded, or something on sky anytime, so I suggest you see if they have anything already on you fancy. If not, sky anytime is normally quite good!

But I'd be annoyed too, so no YANBU!

fartmeistergeneral · 13/11/2008 21:10

Why not rake through their stuff to amuse yourself til they come home?

I am joking......

2point4kids · 13/11/2008 21:10

waTCH A DVD?
sorry caps

MatNanPlus · 13/11/2008 21:11

With FMG not your house and i would be gutted if a prog i was recording was cancelled by someone else.

AuntieMaggie · 13/11/2008 21:11

I would be so cross if you cancelled my recordings - they pay for sky not you!

biscuitsmustbedunkedintea · 13/11/2008 21:11

I would echo trying to bump one of the prog's to it's +1 channel.

Are they recording anything good?

And you can't diss them too much if you are using their internet to MN

nowwearefour · 13/11/2008 21:13

pretty inconsiderate of them, though, wasnt it? i didnt know i could watch something they had already recorded. how do i find that on the sky remote?

OP posts:
fartmeistergeneral · 13/11/2008 21:14

yes I agree it's a pain in the neck. Have babysat before and there was NOTHING decent on TV, no Sky and it's a long 4/5 hours......

nowwearefour · 13/11/2008 21:14

they offered their internet to me as i needed to do some work but cant access my work sit from their laptop it turns out. now i will look like a right numpty at my 9am meeting after all! they are recording bones sky1 and nomads rushhd. never heard of either of them but then i dont have sky!

BouncingTurtle · 13/11/2008 21:14

I'd make sure you wipe your history before they come back

I think YABU - I wouldn't dream of doing this, I would find a DVD to watch instead.

biscuitsmustbedunkedintea · 13/11/2008 21:15

Top left button on remote "TV GUide"

Then green button for "planner"

then using arrow keys highlight what you'd like

Press round middle button (Search/enter?) till prog starts

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/11/2008 21:18

i would be very annoyed if my bs cancelled what i had set on sky +

i also flip if dh touches ours

press tv guide, then planner which i think is green

you will see what has been recored and you could watch and you will see what they are recording

if not can you not put tv on normal and watch 1,2,3,4 or 5

our sky is on 6 so dh can have 1,2,3,4,5 if i am double recording

callmeovercautious · 13/11/2008 21:19

This actually happened to us. We had forgotten all about the fact the babysitter (a friend) would want to watch tv.

She cancelled a recording and sent me a text saying she had re-programmed it for the repeat later in the week.

Fine. I was actually that I had not considered her.

nowwearefour · 13/11/2008 21:19

found a supernanny on their recorded. it was that or peppa pig which i have already seen ad nauseum today! thanks for the tips. i still dont think i would have bu to cancel but i have heeded your advices and gone for something already recorded! thanks! it is better than sitting with nothing. can i forward through the ads on this play back setting>?

OP posts:
ByTheSea · 13/11/2008 21:20

Yes, you can definitely forward through the ads. We don't watch anything with advertising realtime.

nowwearefour · 13/11/2008 21:21

how would i put tv on normal? i did wonder about that but havent a clue how to do it! had enough problems getting it on in the first place! maybe i should find a way of recording something later in the week. thanks callme- a good tip if i am capable of doing it. how do i find the history?

OP posts:
biscuitsmustbedunkedintea · 13/11/2008 21:22

Yup, just use the fast forward button, press it several times speeds it up (x2, x6, x12, x30), then stop button just as sponsors link comes up

Neither Sky1 or Rush HD have a +1 channel - sorry
