a couple of mums in the group had knitted dresses on and knee hign high heel boots.
not exactley preactical for playying with toddlers is it?

one of them had her hair all tonged curly and full make up.

i wonder how long it takes them to get ready/made up in the am.

would it be ok if i started a thread saying how much i hate women who DONT wear make up or do their hair?

thought not

Amani · 11/11/2008 15:41

go for it nailpolish- let it all out..

cyteen · 11/11/2008 15:43

i think we should just have one big all purpose 'i hate women' thread it would streamline the boards and make life as a mum so much easier!

nailpolish · 11/11/2008 15:45

i odnt hate women who dont wear make or do their hair

just thought i better point that out

i dot care what people wear - its not something i tend to judge

eiterh way

VersdeSociete · 11/11/2008 15:45

There was a thread like that, nailpolish! People got v v cross but it was probably in chat and long gone. Someone was expressing "sympathy" for a dumpy mum in tracky bottoms I think.

pagwatch · 11/11/2008 15:46

'i hate women' is a good option.
I was thinking of ' I need to validate my choises and will do so by sneering at anything different because I am feeling a bit insecure underneath all this aggressive posturing' - but yours is snappier.

pagwatch · 11/11/2008 15:46

'choises' is a poncey version of choices btw

VersdeSociete · 11/11/2008 15:46

Good point, cyteen. It could have a permanent link to the Daily Mail website.

Amani · 11/11/2008 15:47

I think everyone makes judgement on what people look like though.

nailpolish · 11/11/2008 15:47

yes but people seem to think its ok to slag off women who care about their appearance

or women who have nice figures after childbirth (nicole kidman thread an example)

nailpolish · 11/11/2008 15:52

well yes possibly we do judge what people are wearing but we dont all think they are "odd"

its so sad
men dont do this why are women such shits to each other

Boobalina · 11/11/2008 15:52

Nailpolish - women love to build each other up to knock them down - its the British way!

Its all crap, I get loads a 'ag' because I have had 2 kids and I am a size 8 again and skinny. I feel like I should constantly be apologising for it adn apologising if I tuck into a big roast supper or fat cream cake...

Its my genes and nothing else, this generally makes women want to punch me further.

Damned if you be fat, damned if you be skinny, sneered at for wearing tracky bums, scowled at for wearing heels and a dress.

Dont get me started on the whole working mum/SAHmum debate too!

Amani · 11/11/2008 15:53

some 'twat' once told me it's in a woman's nature to be argumentative

nailpolish · 11/11/2008 15:54

its nothing to do with being british

its the media

nailpolish · 11/11/2008 15:54

oh now i do love a good argument
only if i win though

sunnygirl1412 · 11/11/2008 15:55

VersdeSociete - I am that dumpy mum - though not in tracky bottoms - that would be way too horrible a sight for the rest of the world!!

I always wished I could be one of the mums who looked chic, smart, well-put-together etc - I don't have the chic gene, and as I have the figure of the michelin man, I never look that great in my clothes - though better in than out, I reckon!

I have a friend who has wonderful taste in clothes and in combinations of clothes, and who always takes the time to look good. She did try to show me that I could do better than I was doing - ie, I could wear earrings, put on a bit of mascara and lipgloss etc - but I tend not to be that motivated to look after myself. When I'm having a really depressive day, even managing a shower can be too hard. Bet you're all thinking minging sunny now.

Boobalina · 11/11/2008 15:59

I have heard via various psychology types (in glossy mags maybe?) that women dress for other women....

Someone was awful to me about my 'image' when I used to take DC's to playschool, but I had massive self esteem problems and was having counselling. Making the effort with my appearance was part of trying to feel better about myself. She buggered that up for me.

I also love clothes. I don't drink, don't smoke, don't drive and am as happy scouring 2nd hand shops as buying new.

I still don't like her.

I don't give a flying f*k if people turn up in wellies and scruffs or stillettoes, a manicure and a wardrobe by
versace. (might raise an eyebrow if it was one of the dads though!)

Amani · 11/11/2008 16:03

Part of the blame lies in all those magazines out there hyping up the 'yummy mummys' etc.

Boobalina · 11/11/2008 16:08

Amani - definitely. I totally agree - the media expect you to have an amazing figure, limitless wardrobe, fablulous hair, have your own business you can do whilst staying at home (mumprenuer), have sex every day with husband, do lots of after school activities and have a house full of Cath fucking Kidson stuff.

Amani · 11/11/2008 16:12

I want to know is there anyone out there who actually is like that?

theinsider · 11/11/2008 16:13

Having posted on this thread way waaaay back, and now coming back to it can I just ask one thing please?

What in the name of arse is a knitted dress?

They sound nice. I like the long item/tunicy thing and long boots look though fail to make the effort often

sunnygirl1412 · 11/11/2008 16:15

I had a knitted dress once. I looked like a woolly sack of potatoes. Never again - I'd be arrested by the fashion police if they even saw me in the woolly dress section of the shop!

pingping · 11/11/2008 16:18

FGS was wondering when the media would be brought in.

Did it ever occur that some people just like to look good?

I for one love to look good for myself not anyone else. I just don't want to look like Moria Mcqueen from Hollyoaks or waynetta
