to think that Billy Bob and Zak Make a Porno (or whatever their names are) is quite an offensive title?

Saw this advertised in huge letters on the side of a bus today, and thought it quite offensive. Am I getting old?

"Also I am sure the Ad is on TV so are you going to complain about that as well"

If it was on Milkshake or CITV I would.
Post-watershed, not so bothered.

pingping · 11/11/2008 14:09

Also I am sure not that long ago children young girls were wearing T-shirts with Porn star on them etc young girls at that
(not that any of my children would be wearing them) so I don't see what the big deal is.

I am not sure why porn is degrading to women as alot of them get paid big money to appear in them and alot of porn stars aspire to be Glamour models pornstars etc.

Look how famous Katie Price is thats from getting her tit's plastered all over the sun and Daily star I doubt she feels very degraded

so nameless faceless corporation "force my kids to engage with the porn industry".scary

seeing you are the mother and have daily influence and guidance input.yet you reckon advertising can undo your parental influence.just like that

i am happy as a parent that i can act as a buffer to fend off advertising material.

no one will "force my kids to engage with the porn industry" because it isnt that pernicious.doesnt work like that.mere mention or snaeky glance of a word wont compel anyone child into porn

mabanana · 11/11/2008 14:12

You see what I mean about not thinking? I rest my case

MadameCastafiore · 11/11/2008 14:15

Oh I think you are being slightly precious - just say a film for grown ups.

pingping · 11/11/2008 14:41

I am with ScottishMummy

Dittany your link not only mashed up my PC but it reminded me of someone from a jesus camp. People like Pamela Anderson and Brittany spears know that sex sells and use it to there advantage end of. Yes people will slag them off but thats there choice.

OP YABU most kids learn about things like porn from there friends etc just because they saw an advert for a comedy film does not mean they will become a porn star

Rhubarb · 11/11/2008 14:48

Dittany, you are never going to believe this but..........I agree with you!

Our children are getting sexualised. My dd now knows more about sex than I did when I was 16. Admittedly though, I was a very innocent and rather immature teenager.

There is nothing wrong with sex. It's a loving act. Only these days it isn't always is it? Porn has always been around but does that mean that it's now acceptable to have porn mentioned in sex education lessons in school?

Where do you draw the line? Everyone has different morals. I think innocence is a precious thing and it's a shame that this society often views innocence as a bad thing now, something to be ashamed of, like virginity. Children as young as 7 are wearing padded bras and thongs. They wear highly inappropriate t-shirts and it's all just a bit of fun isn't it? Well not when you work in a primary school and hear the children talking about oral sex and beastiality it isn't.

How much is too much when it comes to exposing these things to our children? How much information is too much? And what the hell is wrong with innocence?

Women's bodies sell very nicely. That's really a message I hope my children get to hear very early on in their lives. Why wait until they are teenagers to enlighten them, eh?
And Britney Spears is the very model of a happy balanced woman, isn't she? No harm done there at all.
Meh

wittyusername · 11/11/2008 14:55

Rhubarb, I completely agree with you.

dittany, I agree with many of your points but as a Christian I disagre with you that Biblical Christianity seeks to control women's bodies. Biblically, both men and women are called to be chaste outside of marriage and to be faithful within marriage and to serve each other and respect one another's bodies.

pingping · 11/11/2008 14:59

Dittany TBH I didn't watch the whole film as it made my computer crash. I have no intreast in the porn industary and neither will my children.

I for one do not care what goes on alot of women choose to do that for a job so they are degrading themselves. If they are that unhappy in the industary then they should get out.

The film is not a kids film so they would not hear about what smith says about porn or women.

I don't think the word porn on an advert is going to traumatise or turn our children into pornstars. If a child asks what does porn mean it is a simple answer Porn is films made for adults end of.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 11/11/2008 15:01

Yes it's the violence and brutality of porn that disturbs me. Nothing wrong with sex in itself, but god help the girls (and that'll be our daughters if we don't watch out) who have to sleep with men the majority of whose knowledge about sex comes from watching porn.

mabanana · 11/11/2008 15:03

sometimes when I'm larking about with my dh, we say really half-witted things for fun, and then say 'end of' and put up our hands like those Big Brother contestants do. Always makes us hoot with laughter.

pingping · 11/11/2008 15:04

Kathyis6incheshigh. That will never be my Daughters that is a fact because I will teach and show my children better.

mabanana · 11/11/2008 15:05

End of?

pingping · 11/11/2008 15:07

Your going on like all these women are forced to make porn films which really isn't always the case.

Alot of these women enjoy making porn films

I watched some documentry about female pornstars and one girl said she is addicted to making the films and she holds the world record for giving the most amount of men blow jobs in 24hrs or something stupid like that.

ScottishMummy · 11/11/2008 15:29

there seems to be an implicit theme here that porn industry will somehow corrupt and compel our children (in particular females) against our parental wishes.somehow suggesting we are powerless to prevent its pernicious pervasive nature

"god help the girls (and that'll be our daughters if we don't watch out)"

reallywatch out what?

what an alarmist defeatist point of view.are we helpless as parents.no we are not. there are some young women who do actively pursue a carer in porn with the industry resorting to corrupting our children

do we really believe good parenting, imbuing with good values will all be undone and nothing we can do?

Kathyis6incheshigh · 11/11/2008 15:30

You can't protect your children just by teaching them the right things though. Life isn't that simple.

ScottishMummy · 11/11/2008 15:32

what a defeatist point of view kathy.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 11/11/2008 15:40

Scottish Mummy NO-ONE is saying our daughters are going to be corrupted. There is already evidence that young men are getting unrealistic ideas about sex and what women like because the image porn presents is so far removed from reality. That is not much fun for women trying to have relationships with those men.

Of course parents are not powerless. But neither are they all-powerful (as Pingping thinks she is going to be).
So parents need to try to do two things, bring their children up properly and engage with society around them and try to change it if they can. I find Pingping's view that she doesn't care what happens to women in porn movies because they chose to do it and could get out if they want, incredibly sad and selfish, as well as naive.
