Saw this advertised in huge letters on the side of a bus today, and thought it quite offensive. Am I getting old?

What about the girls being sold over here from East European countries and made to appear in sex films?

How about girls under 16 being lured into it on the promise of more drugs?

Yes there are women who choose to do it, but there are a hell of a lot more who don't.

pingping · 12/11/2008 14:41

My mother does not know as she lives far from me and TBH I don't know what she would say. As I said my mother taught me not to degrade or let a man degrade my body which I have not. I haven't done anything that I am ashamed of. I could of easily been earning the money the other girls were earning but I come better than that and I have been taught better by my Mother.

I think parents can teach there children right from wrong and influence how the child grows up. I am a strong independent Woman I work hard and I provide for myself and my family my children will grow up with morals and understandings on how the world is.

Seeing the word Porno is not going to make my children want to be porn stars in actual fact I think that if you explain things to children they then don't feel the need to investigate it themselves.

Your points saying that Porno's are degrading to women and that the women in them are degraded is not a true statement legal porno films are filmed with both people willing to do so regardless if a percentage of them don't want to do it but do it for the money they are not forced into doing it.
If you want to blame someone for degrading women then you should blame the women that star in these movies, and the celebs that sell sex and make it look so good.

Rhubarb · 12/11/2008 14:43

"Seeing the word Porno is not going to make my children want to be porn stars in actual fact I think that if you explain things to children they then don't feel the need to investigate it themselves." - I don't think that will work.

What about innocence? Is it no longer relevant? No longer applicable in this society?

pingping · 12/11/2008 14:44

Right but Rhubarb they are illegal porn movies and no one is saying they are ok. What this arguement is about is how the word porno could influence a child and that the film should not encourage pornos.

I don't agree with illegal porn

pingping · 12/11/2008 14:47

Rhubarb what about all the shops that sell I am porn star t-shirts look how many kids wear them. Its a word that is not going to be hidden from our children better I explain to my child that a porno is films made for adults and when they get to an age in which they can understand explain abit better and tell them how its not a glamous lifestyle to lead and they should respect there bodies.

Rhubarb · 12/11/2008 14:48

The word does not influence the child, but the meaning behind the word. My dd thinks that sex is a loving thing that a man and a woman do. She's yet to discover that people will shag drunkenly behind nightclubs or that men will toss off over porn movies.

I don't want her to discover that for a long time yet, she's only 8. I also know that if I told her that porn is a movie for adults, that would only increase her curiosity and would not constitute an answer in her books.

I will tell my child about these things when I deem it appropriate, I don't want some jumped up advertising geek who thinks it's cool to break a few boundaries, to dictate when my child learns these words and the meanings behind them.

Seems like WHABT has seen a lot of shit films recently.

It's very convenient to "not have the energy" to follow another person's arguments when you cannot back up your own.

Now I do have other things to do besides spend more time on this particular thread.
Have a wonderful day ladies.

Rhubarb · 12/11/2008 14:50

I am Porn star t-shirts? For kids?

I've never seen them but I'm shocked if they are selling those for kids to wear.

Will someone please tell me why children have to be so bloody sexualised and what the hell is wrong with innocence?

southeastastra · 12/11/2008 14:59

only read op, sorry!

yes it's a shite title for probably another shite old film

Dittany I am just stating some of them are not being exploited some of these women want to do these things why is that so hard to comprahend?

I for one have nothing to do with the porn industary.

LOL at my employers and customers Dittany you very watless.

Rhubarb yes kids wear the awful t-shirts and I even think New look used to sell them in the kids section. Not that I would buy one for my child nor do I watch porn or entertain it in any manner I am merely pointing out to Dittany that the women in the films are as bad as the men.

Rhubarb I agree that kids innocences should be perserved but reality is that is not so I would rather enlighten my children and teach them right from wrong then them learn it off an advert or from the playground.

beanieb · 12/11/2008 15:24

Could I ask. How would you explain to your young ones the title 'the 40 year old virgin' without explaining what sex is?

Bink · 12/11/2008 15:57

? This thread is about not "explaining what sex is" to your children - I doubt you'll find anyone on this thread who objects to that .. so long as it's appropriate to their age. (And 'virgin' & what it means comes up in all sorts of question-raising contexts, especially as we head towards Christmas ... no problem with that one at all!!)

The issue here is basically a watershed one - of what's age-appropriate and what's not. And, for me, making the pornography industry sound like kooky everyday fun is not appropriate for primary-aged children.

beanieb · 12/11/2008 17:15

no - but to explain a virgin you would have to explain the difference between being a virgin and not being a virgin. Same way as you would have to explain the difference between a Porno film and 9 1/2 weeks.

starbear · 12/11/2008 20:29

My family don't have a problem about sex. Many moons ago when my nephews were about 7-8 ish. They were play fighting on my feet with all the noise that goes with it, my sister told them to move and they continued then return to me while I was chatting to my sister. I said to her 'Well, I'm not going to have boys if they're like that' when youngest piped up ' well your not going to have any sex then auntie' Sorry had to share maybe only funny to me.

ohIdoliketobebesidethe · 12/11/2008 22:01

Dittany you are my hero today (on this and other threads). I agree with everything you have said. I saw the advert today on a bus and it made me stop as I found it offensive. You have crystalised why I think its offensive perfectly and I have now complained.

I have just seen it again. There is something else about it that grates. If you took away the words you would assume it was a kids film. They both have this innane innocent look on their faces as if it's a sequel to "Honey I shrunk the kids"

scampadoodle · 13/11/2008 13:59

I have complained to the ASA. I'm not bothered that the film exists but I don't think it's appropriate to advertise it under its full title on the side of buses. DS1 (7) is always reading bus ads & asking me what they mean & I really don't want to have to explain the sex industry to him at this stage.
