...to want to throw out every single sock we own and just buy a dozen identical pairs of black socks??

I am getting seriously pissed off with sorting out all the odd socks that we own, no matter what I do, I always end up with odd ones and mis-matched pairs

I admit it's not environmentally friendly but would it be totally insane of me to throw every damn sock out and go out and buy a load of identical new socks.

I'd probably end up with an odd number of socks again but at least any two could make a pair!!!

I really should be doing something more exciting on a Friday night than worrying about socks shouldn't I

It wont work. I tried. The still became odd pairs of socks within a short time.

I bougt ALL dhs in M&S, they were identical.
And all mine too...

I am telling you, there is a mini haldron collider in every washing machine/tumbledrier which is carting socks randomly between machines.

Lowfat · 07/11/2008 17:42

Doesnt work!

Whoever takes the bright ones loves the black ones. DH has bought 3 x 6 pairs of balck sox in about 6 months as they just keep going missing - in pairs.

There a re none in the laundy, in the washing to be put away or in his drawer - we are dumbfounded.

Give up sock or wear tights

Sorry no help, just sympathy

littleladyloulou · 07/11/2008 17:43

DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT!!!

I DARE you! just put the lot IN THE BIN THIS MINUTE and buy a jumbo lot of identical ones!

I did this and have never looked back (well I put the newer of the old ones in the Salvation Army clothes collection)

Umlellala · 07/11/2008 17:44

wear odd socks. it doesn't matter.

moshie · 07/11/2008 17:47

they all fade differently and you're left trying to match various shades of faded black and grey shades which drive you MENTAL.
Believe me, I know.

HairRaisingPixie · 07/11/2008 17:50

But wearing odd socks is just wrong!!!

QS and Lf - you're just buying negative so I shall ignore you and listen to llll as she is saying what I want to hear

Of course the other option is to just stop wearing socks!

my dd wears odd socks...tis cool to not give a stuff apparently

elmoandella · 07/11/2008 17:56

i like the feeling of different socks. especially nice when one is thicker than the other. weird feeling, but put a smile on your face all day

Starbear · 07/11/2008 18:03

I was only thinking this the other day, where do all of socks go. I think my Mum leaves them at the pool but that can't be the answer for why one sock comes back!! I wear black socks for work. You still get odd socks because they fade together. I like the idea of kids wearing odd socks. I bet if its girls the tones & colours will have to look good together. Please lets start the trend

Shoshe · 07/11/2008 18:04

Another one who wears odd socks. I bought packs of coloured socks from asda, and wore them odd from the start.

We have a basket by the dryer all socks get thrown in there, apart from DH's Army socks, and we grab the first two.

elliephant · 07/11/2008 18:05

YANBU Do it ! I did this a few years ago - two whole laundry basket full. It was truely liberating. The baskets used to glower at me from the corner, a constant reminder of my slovenly ways. I put them all in the textile recycling bin to appease my conscience and started again. Life is too short etc Have to stay ruthless though and purge the sock basket every now and then.

bossykate · 07/11/2008 18:06

we always buy identical socks....

Like elliephant I do this every few years. It saves so much time. I tend to go for coloured socks for me (currently loads of pairs of these) and black for DH as if I buy black for both of us then he tends to take mine and complain that his feet are hurting because his socks are too tight.

Umlellala · 07/11/2008 18:11

Hang on, but I do regularly chuck all the crappy singles/ones-with-holes-in anyway and spend £10 on a new pack of 5! Well, for dh anyway...

Umlellala · 07/11/2008 18:12

(PS I made a sausage dog draught excluder stuffed with clean-but-old underwear and socks, now that IS environmentally friendly... sock puppet theatre?! )

pushchair · 07/11/2008 18:23

Yes but-I find that now I spend ages sorting my black socks and DPs black socks. If I bought children all black socks I would go mad trying to match up 2yr old,4yr old and 9yr old pairs. AAAAAArgh

HairRaisingPixie · 07/11/2008 18:34

Seems like to general consensus (sp?) is to go for it.

The whole DH .v. mine sock things wouldn't be a problem as I have size 8 feet so have to have big socks anyway

I really am sad to be excited about this!!!

Hadassah · 07/11/2008 18:38

I did it - it's excellent. It saves a lot of aggro.

ScottishMummy · 07/11/2008 18:41

i did this threw out all odd socks bought couple packs black socks -all same but bliss

BCNS · 07/11/2008 18:48

I have tried this.. seeing as ds1 ,ds2 dh and I can all wear the same size sock nowdays.. It doesn't work.. I have no idea why.. but it doesn't work

DD the only one with non snap socks was the only one who didn't have odds!

BCNS · 07/11/2008 18:50

mind you i blame ds2 who regularly comes home from school with just the one sock on!!

I am at the end of term going to see how many pairs I can find in lost property.. assuming they might migrate there in pairs

we did this.... but the dye runs unevenly and they look odd anyway.

georgimama · 07/11/2008 20:05

I want to do this, but I know (for all the reasons above) it won't work so I won't waste my money.

Will point out this thread to DH, he is quite manic about his socks.....
