Mortgage has gone up, electric has gone up, 5 mouths to feed, 3 children to clothe etc etc and month after month is a bloody struggle. Am fed up with straping money together when my husband earns a good wage and we should be able to get by! I now need to search for a way of 'me' bringing in some money but with a young baby at home and 2 others at school i am at a loss as to how! Please give me some job ideas or ways to make money!!

..its getting heated again...

bluefly scuttles off in search of more sherry

sherbetdipdab · 06/11/2008 21:34

My DP is a consultant and thats what he earns, no private work, any grants etc go to the hospital not the doctor. I'm not complaining about his salary though it still means I get to be a SAHM.

People assume that we must have loads of disposable income, but we have none.

Ronaldinhio · 06/11/2008 21:34

everyone has a situation to deal with and I think that that is the point

can't we support everyone?
rather than tell people that they must be shit with money without being in their situation?

MargeSimpsonMyAlterEgo · 06/11/2008 21:34

I didn't say bribes! I meant payments for lecturing, giving advice, completing surveys and other incredibly legal stuff.

But seriously, £54k on child care? Is that a Norton Nanny or something?

peacelily · 06/11/2008 21:34

To the OP YANBU, I do sympathise outgoings are outgoings and in big cities where the cost ofliving is on the up money doesn't stretch far at all.

IME alot of Dr.s earn less than 65k you earn that after you've achieved consultant level after YEARS of hard graft. Also the onlyother people I know who earn this amount are those who've studied +++ and/or worked v hard every hour God sends. They don't sit at their desks with secretaries waiting on them etc. etc. This is a small minded and ignorant view perpetuated by ceratin sections of the media.

As a nurse (I am one) once I've finished the post grad I'm doing I have the potential to eran 45k, that's what it takes, work work work and study study study. It doesn't get handed to you.

As much as people are fuming with resentment at the OPs tactlessness they don't know her individual circumstances as she doesn't know yours. she apologised as well but still got flamed which i think shows maturity and grace on her part if not on others

suey2 · 06/11/2008 21:34

oh sorry, that was directed at Idoliketobebeside

morningpaper · 06/11/2008 21:36

I earn £54,000 as I am ready to be a consultant but have not landed the job yet (on mat leave anyhow). My entire income will be going on childcare when I return to work.

Of course you COULD spend that on childcare if you hired a nanny or two and were both working full-time

But you COULD also spend a lot less by using a childminder or nursery

morningpaper · 06/11/2008 21:38

Can't we talk about Jonathan Ross again?

suey2 · 06/11/2008 21:38

but the chilcare is paid out of net income: 36 k pa does not sound excessive

SilentTerror · 06/11/2008 21:39

Emma1977,are you part time salaried GP?
Dh got £75 K when salaried, and alot more now a partner(but t hat brings its own problems)

MargeSimpsonMyAlterEgo · 06/11/2008 21:40

sorry OhIDoLike... didn't mean to be horrid. When I went back to work after 2nd child I also was spending almost all net income on nursery. But that was long ago and, Hurrah!! I get to keep almost all of it now! Hang in there and I'm sure the merit awards will come in the end (& nice fat pension..)

mummyloveslucy · 06/11/2008 21:43

ohIdoliketobebesidetheseaside- It only costs £6000 a year to put my daughter through private school. (primary age) and that's with all extras.

mrsruffallo · 06/11/2008 21:43

MP, You have made me laugh so much.....

Liffey · 06/11/2008 21:44

Angels, "Other people do npt know your outgoing so how can they judge? Ignore."

However........... you clearly feel free to judge single mothers despite the fact that you do KNOW that childcare costs more than working takes in for most low earners..

And you can't belieeeeeeeve people are being nasty about the op, even though your own nastiness to single mothers beggars belief.

Single mothers have a 'lifestyle' on their benefits, btu your compassion for somebody on 65k is limitless.

I am not having a pop at the OP by the way. Whatever her income, I know that it can be very difficult to be forced to MAKE unwanted CHANGES. Moving house or whatever is a hard step.

ohIdoliketobebesidethe · 06/11/2008 21:45

We do use a nursery as I said. It is no the most expensive and I have 3 children.

Ronaldinhio · 06/11/2008 21:46

we have two children and it 2100 per month

noonki · 06/11/2008 21:47

here here liffey

morningpaper · 06/11/2008 21:47

you want to stop HAVING CHILDREN

they are REALLY EXPENSIVE

WideWebWitch · 06/11/2008 21:47

£65k is fk all if you live in London, frankly.

As you were.

aledad · 06/11/2008 21:47

Enjoy what you have and make it work guys.

Life's short and grumbling on the 'tinternet is a waste!

Talk to your partners

WideWebWitch · 06/11/2008 21:48

No-one ever agrees with me when I post that!

morningpaper · 06/11/2008 21:48

£65k is fk all if you live in London, frankly.

I can really recommend moving to Somerset

You are instantly young, slim, VERY attractive and incredible RICH

Salleroo · 06/11/2008 21:50

MorningPaper, you missed a couple of other typos. Anger does that to me.

MrsRuffallo, she asked for suggestions to budget better and she got slated for earning so much and having the cheek to go on an expensive holiday too.

mummyloveslucy · 06/11/2008 21:50

Yes I know, I was making a comparrason. You could have 8 children at my daughters private school for the price of your 3's nursery.
Where do you live?

Ronaldinhio · 06/11/2008 21:50

considers somerset..likes the sound of it...wonders if they take applications from stroppy winos?
