Mortgage has gone up, electric has gone up, 5 mouths to feed, 3 children to clothe etc etc and month after month is a bloody struggle. Am fed up with straping money together when my husband earns a good wage and we should be able to get by! I now need to search for a way of 'me' bringing in some money but with a young baby at home and 2 others at school i am at a loss as to how! Please give me some job ideas or ways to make money!!

combustiblelemon · 06/11/2008 21:20

RUN! Run very fast indeed Suey2.

suey2 · 06/11/2008 21:22

Feck feck feck! Should have name changed!

Hadassah · 06/11/2008 21:22

OP - I hear you.

BoffinMum · 06/11/2008 21:23

BoffinMum's penn'orth now. The best way to feel well off is to live next to poorer people than you. It's like lying next to the larger lass on the beach to feel slim. The problem with having to live in London for whatever reason is that in London many people look richer. So £65k feels inadequate and people feel sad, because it's natural to worry and feel concern about one's financial status when faced with this situation. People should remember that before they start making a fuss about threads like this.

MargeSimpsonMyAlterEgo · 06/11/2008 21:23

What kind of doctor only earns £65k?

BlueBumedFly · 06/11/2008 21:23

HaHa suey, do you know how sad it has gotten, I resorted to rumminging through the larder (euw, we have a larder you know!!) to find the bloody sherry as I did not feel I could shell out on a bottle of wine before the official weekend... sad sad bluefly

suey2 · 06/11/2008 21:24

doing up laces ..... Right left right left right left ......

emma1977 · 06/11/2008 21:25

Marge- I earn significantly less than that

ohIdoliketobebesidethe · 06/11/2008 21:26

Have said before but will say again. £65,000 is the starting salary for a hospital consultant - of any speciality. i.e. a highly experienced doctor of 8-12 yrs post qualification (assuming no time out for PhD), who will have had to go through a hell of a lot of exams as well as hard graft to get there.

BoffinMum · 06/11/2008 21:26

Boffins earn baby wages but I am hoping we go to heaven as recompense.

Ronaldinhio · 06/11/2008 21:26

dearest bluefly I'll share my wine with you! but then i like sherry and might do a swapsop thing instead

ohIdoliketobebesidethe · 06/11/2008 21:27

I am a Dr 8 yrs post qualification. I earn £54,000 as I am ready to be a consultant but have not landed the job yet (on mat leave anyhow). My entire income will be going on childcare when I return to work.

BlueBumedFly · 06/11/2008 21:28

Ronaldinhio - what a gem you are, a virtual sherry coming you way hun - cheers!

MargeSimpsonMyAlterEgo · 06/11/2008 21:29

starting salary... that means before all the extras are added on. And unless very unfortunately placed or in cinderella specialty the extras would include private work, merit awards, research income, pharmaceutical company payments, blah blah

suey2 · 06/11/2008 21:29

passes bluefly a glass.... Red ok?

Ronaldinhio · 06/11/2008 21:29

right back at ya lady

we do need a cheers emoticon.....

MargeSimpsonMyAlterEgo · 06/11/2008 21:29

!!!!!!!!!!!! £54k on childcare?????????!!!!!

BlueBumedFly · 06/11/2008 21:30

suey2 - perfect, ooo you gem, perfect room temp!

Ron - we do! Perhaps one with crossed eyes?

ohIdoliketobebesidethe · 06/11/2008 21:31

Private work- only if you're in the right speciality and right part of the country.
Merit awards - are for merit, only a proportion get them usually after many years as a consultant.
Research income ? come again
Do you really believe the medical profession accept bribes from drug companies - they would be struck off for that!

callmeovercautious · 06/11/2008 21:32

Sorry but no matter what you earn the cost of living has gone up alot. You tend to live to your means and if you have had a fixed rate mortgage and had it expire recently then the mortgage will have gone up - and for some by quite alot.

A very good example of why not to state your income on here. If you say you are poor and are needing benefits you get attacked for draining state funds, if you earn good money yet are struggling with the economic situation you still get slated.

I think there needs to be a bit less judging on here today

ohIdoliketobebesidethe · 06/11/2008 21:32

Yup - that's what nurseries here cost (am not at the most exp either - and have 3 kids). Will only be for 6 months though then eldest will start school.

suey2 · 06/11/2008 21:32

5k mortgage
2k nanny
Moving on ......

emma1977 · 06/11/2008 21:33

None of those extras apply to a salaried GP on a fixed salary. I wish- I like the sound of a merit award!
