Mortgage has gone up, electric has gone up, 5 mouths to feed, 3 children to clothe etc etc and month after month is a bloody struggle. Am fed up with straping money together when my husband earns a good wage and we should be able to get by! I now need to search for a way of 'me' bringing in some money but with a young baby at home and 2 others at school i am at a loss as to how! Please give me some job ideas or ways to make money!!

"We are about to buy a very average semi on a slightly questionable road ,..."
Just count yourself lucky you haven't had to borrow over £1m to pay off a husband on a divorce though......

But yes I've always found it easier to earn more than cut back. If you earn £xxx or whatever I earn an hour then doing one hour's work is usually easier than changing say your fuel provider or moving to factory farmed eggs from free range or to Lidl from Waitrose, surely.

Get a night job. Clean houses for £5 - 8 an hour, babysit. Work 5am - 10am on Saturdays or whatever. There is always money to be made if you put your mind to it. They could find no one prepared to go to Iran this week to do what I did there except me. It certainly wasn't easy with all the travelling but I did it and got the money and no one else was prepared to. You just have to keep yourself out there, keep up thinking of ideas for increasing what you earn, market constantly, think of interesting business ideas. It's a mind set thing as much as an internal competence thing.

was that your divorce payoff zenia?god i'd marry and divorce you for a million

KatieDD · 07/11/2008 20:23

Crickey X I always wondered what you do for a living, please tell me you aren't an arms dealer or something my illusions will be shattered.

Quattrocento · 07/11/2008 20:24

Yes agree with the mindset thing. I defined it as restlessness yesterday and that's the best description. Don't think many people have it though X.

needmorecoffee · 07/11/2008 20:25

if you are cleaning houses for 5 quid an hour then you aren't even earning the money to pay for childcare.
Not everyone can earn more. Some are already working 40 hours a week or more. Some can't work.
You really aren't in the real world anymore Xenia.

happywomble · 07/11/2008 20:25

Yes - please can some people keep shopping at Waitrose! If you all change to Lidl, Aldi & Asda there will be no nice supermarkets left. I am prepared to pay slightly more to shop at Waitrose as it is a pleasant shopping experience and Waitrose treats its suppliers, growers & staff well.

hambo · 07/11/2008 20:27

Don't listen to Xenia...full of wind!

ready2pop · 07/11/2008 20:27

Aha, if you have had to pay your DH £1m then you must be worth considerably more than that. No doubt made up in assets not cash (hence the borrowing) but none the less Xenia you are clearly minted.

Luckily my DH knows better than to divorce me...

Sorry not sure why that has come up twice.

bozza · 07/11/2008 20:29

Lizzylou I was basing the no childcare bit on the OP who is a SAHM.

I think you could manage a cheap Euro holiday though - we do and also pay some childcare. But then we only run one of two cars as the other is a company car which probably makes that amount of difference.

ScottishMummy · 07/11/2008 20:29

dont be so unkind hambo .i am intrigued what the iraq job was sounds exciting

happywomble · 07/11/2008 20:30

It was Iran not Iraq I think - I wouldn't go to either country for all the money in the world!

ScottishMummy · 07/11/2008 20:31

im intrigued what xenia Iran job was

needmorecoffee · 07/11/2008 20:31

Iran is safe to visit but its tough getting a visa. They have shopping malls and everything, its not primitive you know.

ScottishMummy · 07/11/2008 20:33

i would love to visit iran see the architecture.try the food, whole different culture - v appealing

Quattrocento · 07/11/2008 20:33

I don't think she went there for the shopping. Not when Elephant & Castle is so close

hambo · 07/11/2008 20:33

Xenia is a lawer (sorry X if I am wrong), but one thing I am not wrong about is every post she is on she manages to make it clear that she is well off!

Which I find really funny!

blueshoes · 07/11/2008 20:34

Xenia, very intriguing your description of the mindset. Agree with Quattro that it is not usual - most people, including myself, are happier to coast. Not sure why I am posting except that we are going to hit 1,000 ...

Lizzylou · 07/11/2008 20:34

Bozza, no we can't, but s'ok.
And we live in the North.
Both our cars are our own and atm in regular need of upkeep.
I am "doing a Xenia" and have recently set up my own business (with a Partner), but it will take a while before we get any profit.

needmorecoffee · 07/11/2008 20:35

and sneer at those who aren't cos apparently its all our own fault.

Quattrocento · 07/11/2008 20:36

In fairness to X I have never seen her sneer at anyone poor.

happywomble · 07/11/2008 20:36

Well I would not consider myself well off with a debt of £1,000,000!

ScottishMummy · 07/11/2008 20:37

gawd you let get yer drawers in a twist about xenia. her tongue and silver spoon are firmly embedded in gob

blueshoes · 07/11/2008 20:37
