Mortgage has gone up, electric has gone up, 5 mouths to feed, 3 children to clothe etc etc and month after month is a bloody struggle. Am fed up with straping money together when my husband earns a good wage and we should be able to get by! I now need to search for a way of 'me' bringing in some money but with a young baby at home and 2 others at school i am at a loss as to how! Please give me some job ideas or ways to make money!!

God some of you people are nasty

angelswithdirtyfaces · 06/11/2008 18:58

I can't believe how jealous and nasty people are being to the OP.

AbbeyA · 06/11/2008 18:58

She is not saying that she is skint-she is saying that she should be well off on the money they have!

expatinscotland · 06/11/2008 18:58

'Familybliss did you ever hear 'if you cant say anything nice, then dont say anything at all. '

I have heard about this. On Bounty, NetMums and BabyCentre, hun.

Thankfully we're able to express our own opinions here.

angelswithdirtyfaces · 06/11/2008 18:59

X posts.

donnie · 06/11/2008 18:59

where is Xenia then?

FWIW I don't think £65k is a lot of money if you live in certain parts ( eg London). It's not a bad income but not stratospheric, by any means.

expatinscotland · 06/11/2008 18:59

'Please take into account that WG has posted as well about panic attacks and anxiety as well as self harming - I understand about the current economic climate but please think before you post. In fact I think this thread should be pulled.'

LOL.

This place is turning into Bounty.

angelswithdirtyfaces · 06/11/2008 18:59

Or prehaps just thick and can't figure out that £65k is not that much after tax and hih outgoings.

angelswithdirtyfaces · 06/11/2008 19:01

"Thankfully we're able to express our own opinions here."

Unless it about single mums who choose to SAH on benefits of course.

WorzselMummage · 06/11/2008 19:02

Prehaps they think anyone who cant budget for a decent quality of life on 65k must be thick.

We manage a 3 bed, nice car, holiday life on 26k because my DF uses his noggin.

angelswithdirtyfaces · 06/11/2008 19:03

Depends on how high your expectations on Worzel. We can't all be doctors.

expatinscotland · 06/11/2008 19:06

'Unless it about single mums who choose to SAH on benefits of course.'

eh?

WorzselMummage · 06/11/2008 19:07

The its the expectations that are at fault nothing else.

When i was growing up i thought i was going to have a couple of acre garden, 2 horses and a range rover..

sadly when i moved in to the real world i had to be happy with my 3 bed semi and a bloody vauxhall.

thats life isnt it.

beakysmum · 06/11/2008 19:14

Bounty or not, there are real people using this website. A little consideration goes a long way in responding to people on here or in RL.

Walk a mile in another person's shoes before you pass comment.

Hope you are OK, WG

WorzselMummage · 06/11/2008 19:14

I for one would be happy fo walk a mile in 65k shoes...

angelswithdirtyfaces · 06/11/2008 19:14

I hope Op is ok too.

angelswithdirtyfaces · 06/11/2008 19:16

Re-train to be a doctor.

familybliss · 06/11/2008 19:17

"Prehaps they think anyone who cant budget for a decent quality of life on 65k must be thick."

I do think that. If you are working in a post that rakes in £65,000 per annum, you should have the brains and have the financial nouse to sort out your finances.

Which is why I am wondering whether this winegodess is for real. She has gone on mumsnet, claiming on one thread that she is about to self-harm due to finances but asking for recommendations for foreign holidays costing around £2,500 on the other thread?

Sorry, the whole thing does not add up. And yes, to answer one of the other posts, I do admit that I too would love to go on a £2,500 holiday to Egypt this December but I don't see what that has to do with it all.

She's having us on so I'm off!

angelswithdirtyfaces · 06/11/2008 19:18

Bye.

needmorecoffee · 06/11/2008 19:19

did those who take holidays now have them as children so think its a part of every day life?
We never had a holiday growing up so I don't miss not going on one now. Its not part of 'normal' to us.
I am a little ticked off we aren't comfortable by now. DH had just got up to 35K after a PhD and 13 years work and I was starting to think of the whole car/holiday/house without damp type thing when he had to give up work to become a carer. So we're back where we were 16 years ago when we earned 800 quid a month, 2 kids under 2 and a rent of 550 equivelent.
I think dh might find it harder as he grew up in a middle class house and had holidays and stuff he wanted (rather than just needed)
That'll teach him to marry beneath him

myredcardigan · 06/11/2008 19:20

WM, DH earns a six figure salary. If it was to suddenly drop to 50k,we'd lose the house as we simply couldn't afford topay the mortgage. That's just the same as someone who earns 25k suddenly dropping to 13k. The lifesyle maybe somewhat different but the principle is the same.

However, I agree that we are not the OP's counsellor. I'm sorry WG if you have issues but a debating forum such as AIBU is not the best place for them.

i'd rather not.

needmorecoffee · 06/11/2008 19:27

Whats Bounty? How's the wee one Expat?

shatteredmumsrus · 06/11/2008 19:27

I am new to this thread. At first I was shocked at how much people earned and are still claiming to be struggling! We earn £19k between us. Husband is a plumber and I work in a Bank.We have 2 children, 1 in school and 1 in pre school. No childcare costs although last year was a very different story. Our mortgage is £700 a month and then there is all the other bills like everyone else. That is a huge chunk of our income and we ar finding that there is nothing left at all.We dont go out and have 1 second hand car. Kids are happy and so are we. Althought the recurrent argument is always money!Im sure this is the same for millions of others. My point is that it just shows you that the more you have the more you spend - the bigger the house, the bigger the mortgage, the newer the car, holidays are the 'norm' etc etc etc. If we had £65000 income we would be extrmely well off. We have no debts. But we live in a crappy house with very bad damp and a shitty area. I sometimes think id rather be in debt but living in a nicer area.I dont want to slam the more 'well off' but i think those of us who are less 'well off' could help them save some cash. That said how could they down size now in this climate!

Thefairiesmademedoit · 06/11/2008 19:43

I think your mistake, Winegoddess, was mentioning the actual salary. There are a lot of people who have to get by on a lot less. But it is also true that what you earn you learn to spend. Also 40% of the 65K will disappear before your DH ever see it as a higher rate tax payer.

You're in the same position as many people, regardless of salary levels. Everyone is having to tighten belts and spend a lot less on everything. To what level is all relative which is why you've been jumped on a little.

I'd suggest that you have a look at this website. It has lots of information, and the forums are very good. Here

Also, if you can't afford to go on holiday, without going in debt, then perhaps it's better to cancel until you have a better grip on other spending.

There is a lot of good stuff to be found on Mumsnet, so please don't give up on it after one scrap. It's a bit of right of passage thing around here anyway. Most of us don't bite. Honest.
