To not think is is acceptable for dh to leave ds2 aged nearly 1 in his playpen for 15 minutes whilst he went to the garage!

DS1 and I have been ill today with an upset tummy. DH just happened to be off today. This afternoon exhausted by it alll we both fell asleep on the settee leaving dh to look after ds2 - his suggestion. When I woke up I saw ds2 in his playpen and I said to him hello little chap how long have you been there? At which point dh replied just a quarter of an hour thats all whilst I did a few jobs in the garage! He just could not understand whilst I was so annoyed! He said I do like to make an issue of things and I do go on! He said it was only a quarter of an hour thats all maximum!
I said we never bought the play pen for that NEVER! Its used so I can do things in the kitchen for his own safety or if I need to go to the toilet etc. Always for very very short periods. Its situated in the dining room and he can see me in the kitchen. He then said that he was not going to let him have the run of the house and I was asleep after all! Hasn't occurred to him to maybe not do the jobs until later and thought I was being totally over the top and just going on etc.
AIBU or was he? He is not pfb btw!

CatMandu · 05/11/2008 20:53

YABU in fact you're sounding a little mad.

onepieceoflollipop · 05/11/2008 20:54

I think yabu. You were in the same room (asleep) if I read your post correctly. Imo no different to you being asleep in a room while he is asleep in a cot, and he could easily wake up first and play.

funnypeculiar · 05/11/2008 20:54

How was ds2?

spudballoo · 05/11/2008 20:54

YABU

BananaFruitBat · 05/11/2008 20:54
Hmm
ilovetochat · 05/11/2008 20:54

could he hear ds2 if he cried, if so then yabu.

onepieceoflollipop · 05/11/2008 20:54

p.s. Also I think your thread title is very misleading and unfair to your dh.

Sails · 05/11/2008 20:55

Why he was in the room by himself when he is not used to it. Why is that sounding mad to think its not reasonable?

Honestly - yabu. I don't like playpens myself but 15min is not long. My ds2 often has to sit in his pushchair for 15 min or so when we go to the shops (which he hates) - at least in a playpen they can play.

squeaver · 05/11/2008 20:55

yabu. I thought you meant the garage as in the petrol station 5 miles away, not your ACTUAL garage that is attached (or part of?) your house.

giddykipper · 05/11/2008 20:56

When I saw the title I thought he had left him in his playpen home alone while he went to the petrol station - now that would not have been acceptable.

Sorry but yabu, you were there if he had started crying, your DS was obviously not perturbed.

Kewcumber · 05/11/2008 20:56

you were in teh sameroom as him? You would have woken if he had cried or ben distressed presumably?

What do you think of him being awake in his cot in the morning before you get him up(without possibly even knowing he's awake yet)

Sails · 05/11/2008 20:56

I was in the living room. I just don't think thats the point of a playpen

i used to leave dd1 in playpen for at least that long when i had a shower when she was a bubba. i think yabu. what do you have it for if not to use?

Vapido · 05/11/2008 20:57

YABU

Kewcumber · 05/11/2008 20:57

so you weren't in the room with him and neither of you would have heard if he had cried?

onepieceoflollipop · 05/11/2008 20:57

Sails and ilovetochat:

I quote

"when I woke up I saw ds2 in his playpen" op suggests that she was in the same room dozing on the settee with her other child (now if we are being picky that is potentially more dangerous?) Her younger child was playing safely in a playpen in the same room, unless I am missing something?

imnotmamagbutshelovesme · 05/11/2008 20:57

Sorry but yabu.

Kewcumber · 05/11/2008 20:58

you were in the living room but where was DS2? [confused emoticon]

Sails · 05/11/2008 20:58

Also the garage in not attached to our house but at the end of our garden on a different street.

I assumed, when I read the title, that you meant a petrol station. And that ds was alone in the house. Obviously in that sitation you would not have been in any way unreasonable.

But what you've outlined doesn't sound too bad to me. Presumably if he'd cried, you'd have woken up? In which case I think it's fine. I used to leave ds playing in his cot for 10 minutes at that age while I had a shower.

MintChocAddict · 05/11/2008 20:58

YABU.
I thought petrol station too.
Have left my DS playing in playpen while doing jobs around the house. No big deal IMO.
